I don't see it as a great contract anymore...  heavy cap hit for a 2nd tier or 3rd pairing D

Agreed. We almost have our hands tied and have to play him on the third pair because he's just too injury prone. We can't rely on him to be a steady top 4 cause it's just not happening.

Buff, Trouba, Myers down the right side would be unreal, but that's gonna be costly

  2. We won in Chicago because Helle outgoalied Darling which was a very positive sign. 38/4 1 is a  .927 sv % which is above league average - bottom line.

One was fairly soft, but it was a 2 on 1 off a turnover and goals get scored when that happens. And what is this about there weren't many quality chances? Of course there were. Toews breakaway, the total onslaughts around the crease where they'd bang away on us for 20 seconds, 4 penalties.

Helle outgoalied Darling, but Helle just needs more consistency. This happens all the time with goalies and he's on the right track. I don't think his breakout year will be until 2018/2019 but that's very normal for goalies.

Darling is a UFA at the end of the year and with all the goalie movement this offseason I think he is someone that that Jets should take a serious look at to anchor Helle. 6'6 with a good sv % and some good experience now. Only problem is someone might pay him more to legitimately start.

You honestly think he's plan A? I thought you guys around here were smarter.

He's far and away the best quarterback on the Riders roster, that's a nightmare for the Riders. If Glenn starts you know the season is a write off before it even begins, and if either Bridge or Waters start someone significantly less experienced and clearly of inferior talent is playing ahead of him. It's a total **** show.

wake up Judd, Hutch and Hell aren't any better

Helle is absolutely better than Pavelec. He's had ups and downs, but 5 on 5 he's at league average for save % and that's expected for a 23 year old.  Pav is a career .905 and even that's skewed by one 20 game stretch where he stood on his head. Pavelec honestly isn't even capable.

The only reason he's 2-0 this year is because we scored 11 goals in those games.

The #Bombers add 3: WR Ryan Lankford, DBs Keith Lewis, Jeremy Harris. Lankford: 8 GP w Sask last yr. Lewis was on Wpg PR; Harris was w B.C.

Lewis is 6'1 and Harris 6'2, we're really starting to see a shift in taller db's lately.
Does anyone have any comments on Lankford and how he looked last year, I honestly don't remember seeing him at all.

  6. I always thought Maurice would be the right guy for the job, and now I'm starting to re-think that.

Over his tenure there's been little (if any) improvement on the amount of penalties we take. When he first came on the scene the penalties were a side effect of playing a hard, physical, grinding game. And hey, it worked - he got us into playoffs. Since then the identity of the team has changed to speed and skill, so why are we continuing to take so many penalties? Particularly lazy stick penalties and offensive zone penalties?

Our special teams are atrocious most of the time. Laine on PP2? Lowry on PP1?  Other teams are way more agressive on their PK's as well. We seem to sit down in the box in our end and just let them cycle and shoot, and that, to me, is a problem. On our PP Buff and Wheeler are adding nothing. Wheeler's speed is a huge asset but on the PP it doesn't really add anything. Buff just constantly takes bombs and barely gets them through or hits the net- what happened to these guys?

Perreault and Stafford have regressed to barely third liners. There's absolutely no way MP gets protected, which I agree with. I would way rather lose him than Dano/Armi/even Lowry. Our d-men have to be some of the worst at getting shots through to the net, I'm looking at you: Buff, Trouba, Myers and Postma. Chiarot is not an NHL level player, but I suppose that's more on Chevy than it is Maurice.

I'm very happy with Chevy and think he gets an extension at the end of the year. He's provided this team with some solid depth and under the coach it is not performing to the sum of it's parts. Hutch is garbage, Helle has been bad but I don't think anyone expected this to be his breakout year. Helle gets this year and next at least to start showing that he can take the job. It also doesn't help being hung out to try at least once a game, though.

  7. I don't think Lapo deserves a HC job. We fell into the GC once (and got blown out as we all know) in his tenure on the backs of an amazing defence for 9 games,  but otherwise the team generally sucked.

He runs a decent offence, but it's not like his first year back he took the league by storm or anything - we still had an average to below average offence. I just don't see the love, and I think he's perfectly content in his role as OC/Assistant HC. Lapo wants to be in Winnipeg, and I think he envisions himself HC of the Bombers again in waiting the same way Dickenson was in Calgary. I don't particularly believe it's the right thing to do, but I wouldn't be surprised if Lapo was the Bombers HC again one day.
