  1. Too much gets made of coaching. Is there a "bad" coach in the NHL? I think if you've made it to the NHL where there are only 30 head coaches, you're a good coach. Not every coach wins a cup or award every year. 29 other coaches lose.
  2. I think Maurice is a better coach than some give him credit for. He guided the Hurricanes to the finals. They thought highly enough of him to re-hire him after the Leafs fired him.
  3. Im surprised he hasnt resigned already. Especially with someone as powerful as Condi Rice waiting in the wings to take over.
  4. Ladd is a Left (though I thought Buff played better as a LW last season than a RW). Kane - Schef - Wheeler Ladd - Little - Buff Lowry - Perrault - Frolik Galiardi - Slater - Thorburn (Peluso) Enstrom - Bogo Stuart - Trouba Morrissey - Clitty I think they really want Morrissey to make it and he sure looks like he could. Maurice said last night that they want to keep Petan at centre. They had been trying both him and Lowry out as wingers/centres. Lowry will make the team on the LW I think and give them depth at centre. They just dont have a spot for Petan this season and I dont think it serves him to be playing 4th line minutes. Great problem to have though. Maurice described Ehlers as having "flashes" which he certainly does, but he'll go back to junior.
  5. Comrie should get a chance to play in the AHL next season. Helly and Comrie in St John's is what I expect next year. Pavs/Hutch in Winnipeg.
  6. Helly is 21 so can play in the AHL this season which is where I expect him. Comrie is only 19. As an aside Hutch is only 24. If all three of those guys are starter material, we have a great pool of talent in net for many years to come.
  7. I think Helly is seen more as the bonafide goalie of the future. Comrie might be good trade bait though, if Hutch ends up as good as he seems.
  8. Axel Blomqvist (Victoria) Eric Comrie (Tri-City) Chase De Leo (Portland) Jan Kostalek (Rimouski) Jimmy Lodge (Saginaw) Nelson Nogier (Saskatoon)
  9. We have a glut of bottom six guys and a few extra D as well. Personally, I'd rather see us keep Lowry and Petan then go with "veterans" that arent going to rise above low 3rd line. They might look at Petan as a money issue though. If he cant play a regular shift all season, why trigger his pro contract. But even if he cycles in and out of the line up, he probably benefits more than dominating another junior season. I can see the argument the other way though. Lowry seems to be a no brainer at this point. Same can be said of Morrissey. Even if he stumbles during the season and needs to sit in the presser for a few games, isnt that better than going back to junior? He probably stand to learn more with the Jets and so far looks the part.
  10. Some sort of exceptional player exception would be nice. For example, if the Jets were considering Petan, Morrissey and Ehlers for "pro" this year, perhaps allowing them to declare ONE player an "exception" and keeping him pro in the NHL or AHL and having to send the other two back. In addition, make the NHL team pay a reasonable sum to the CHL team. Make all exceptions pending league approval.
  11. The witness claimed Rob tried to run them off the road and was out of his mind. But then when she explains the details of the story, its not nearly as wild. He tried to merge and didnt realise they were in that lane and then got pissy about it after. The odd thing is his apparently uncharacteristic leaving of the house without telling anyone. Where was he going? Why? Very strange.
  12. Perfect. What he did is as bad or worse then what Rice did to his wife. Worse. The wife has every opportunity to pack her bags and walk away. The child doesnt. I also find it difficult to believe that Rice never raised his hand to his wife previously...
  13. Good game by the Jets. Just the start that Pavs needed. And Hutch was solid too. If Lowry keeps playing that way, he will make the team. Im thinking Petan is sent back to junior (which is ridiculous, they really need to allow special players to play in the AHL early). Ehlers likely back to juinior but maybe an outside shot if he stands out a bit more. I'd think the Jets would keep him for 9 games. As much as I really hoped Morrissey would make the team, the Jets seem okay on D and I'd think he'd get 9 games too but will have to be outstanding to not be sent back to junior. Nice to see our prospects developing though. With Petan, Lowry, Ehlers, Morrissey, Kitchen, Chariot etc, the future looks bright.
  14. Exactly. Plus, didnt he text his ex and say "you're going to be mad..." and try to justify what he did. He knew it was wrong.
  15. I agree - but it is also different from the Ray Rice situation, imho. My biggest issue, with the Ray Rice situation in particular - there are sleazeballs ALL OVER, not just professional athletes that do this to women, and men, every single day. They get the same "punishment" he does. The only difference is he, and his now wife, are losing millions of dollars from it. The average Joe gets to keep his job, and often keeps beating his wife. I see your point. And had this discussion with a few people recently. Is Rice not being paid? I guess he's not because he was released, correct? If I recall, AP *is* being paid. The not playing aspect certainly is a punishment. The backlash seems to be that if the NFL immediately presumes someone is guilty and suspends them and it turns out to be a false allegation then the player was victimized twice. But I dont think you can paint every accusation or incident with the same brush. There is no doubt in the cases of Rice and Peterson. And while its not the NFL's job to be judge and jury, it is within their rights to do what they want with their players. Many jobs have certain morality clauses. Many of us, if charged with assault, our employers might never even know about it. Some might consider it a personal issue with no bearing on employment. Some might stand by the employee until the outcome is known and go from there. But the NFL and their players operate within the public eye. Some players have taken great exception to the idea they are role models. But the point is, being a pro athlete comes with certain obligations. I think creating a black & white process for any and all accusations will be difficult. But those discussions should no reference to these two cases which are clear and obvious. The Ravens were well within their rights to release Rice. I dont feel sorry for him for losing millions of dollars when the local plumber would still be working. Its a different profession.
  16. Demons? I don't think it was demons. He was probably raised that way when it came to discipline. Demons, no. Stupid, yes. The "raised that way" excuse is just that, an excuse. We're not talking about subtle things impacted by how you were raised. I understand the issue here and that those who were abused often repeat the cycle. But thats what I mean by demons. *Maybe* the way he was raised (if he was abused) instilled in him the natural reflex to lash out physically, but he KNEW he was wrong. He's an adult who is at least reasonably intelligent. He knows the difference between corporal punishment and assault.
  17. Anyone pick this up yet? I havent. I generally try to wait for some of the roster updates to come down so when I start a GM mode, it's as accurate as possible. I've been away for a couple of weeks so ive missed much of the hype and discourse at launch so someone give me the coles notes please. My understanding is NHL15 for 360 and PS4 is a direct clone of NHL14? And for the next gen consoles, the game looks and plays wonderfully but is very stripped down missing many features and options. Personally, I only really play the GM mode anyway so Im not too concerned about missing features. Im considering getting an Xbox One since I will inevitably get a next gen console anyway so maybe this is the time to do it. How are the Jets represented in the game? I read that 28 arenas were built for the game with prestine accuracy, is that true of MTSC? Thoughts?
  18. AP should worry about avoiding jail and having a career before he worries about the Vikings. Although I can see why he might be upset of the team told pledged their support and then two days later reneged. Actually he should be focused on getting the help he needs to overcome the demons that made him think it was okay to do what he did.
  19. I was a Pens fan even when Jets 1.0 were here. So when Jets left I just fully embraced Pens. Also love the Ducks.
  20. I'm not going to argue about spanking other than to say its lazy parenting. I'm old enough that spanking was the norm when I was a kid. It shouldn't be now. It's not effective and there are better ways to discipline a child. Having said that there is obviously a difference between sparking and assault. ISO makes a great point about culture. The nfl needs to take responsibility for educating players. But make no mistake, regardless of upbringing an adult knows right from wrong. And AP knew he was wrong. He knew his sons mother would be angry. That tells you all you need to know.
  21. Anyone who saw the video can express why it was shocking. It was brutal. Personally I believe the NFL saw the video but it's an old boys club. But let's assume Rice "explained" his actions. He had his wife "taking responsibility" for her part (one of the most dispicable aspects of this and I recall Hustler being appalled at the live tweeting of the presser in that regard). He probably said it was a "consensual fight" where maybe he shoved her away in defense and she fell down and hit her head. The visual of his dragging her unconscious body out of the elevator was bad. But then having the truth truly revealed where he slugs her was visually sickening. It demonstrated how vile and callous Rice was and everyone who ropes his wide into taking blame should be ashamed.
  22. He sealed his date during the bounty thing when he said ignorance wasn't an excuse. He can't plead ignorance. Either way he's toast. How he suspended rice for two games initially is beyond me. Absurd. And some pot smoker got a year? Ridiculous. It's just rich boys club covering asses. I'm not in favour of a lifetime ban for rice but he should have been gone from the beginning. And don't even get me started on Peterson. This whole "it's a southern black thing" or "it's how I was raised" is such a cop out. I was utterly shocked when the Vikings reinstated him and knew they'd regret that decision. What sort of morons are these guys? The NFL needs to take some accountability in preparing players for this life also.
  23. Sorry 17, the point must have gone over your head. I'll try to explain again even though I realise you know exactly what I meant. Never ceases to amaze me why people take the time to post just to be jerks or negative. We're all here for the same reason. Sigh. Anyway, my point was that a few weeks ago there were many people who didn't want to believe this team wasn't very good. Some people thought the team was not as good as it's record indicated. Those people are correct.
  24. I go away for a couple of weeks and come back to watch those two dismal performances. I said a few weeks ago it wouldn't surprise me of they didn't win another game all season and was taken to task for it. I think they've won one game since. They've looked unprepared and undisciplined at times. Our rookie head coach and rookie management is looking the part. Not a burial just a fact. We over performed early on emotion and surprising teams. Not happening now. A young team losing close ones is fine. Getting blown out, taking bad penalties, curious line up decisions...not good signs. We have to beat up the weak teams to get some momentum back. Are we under performing right now or is this what this team is?
