  1. Great athlete but dreadful ball security. He was waving it around practically. I almost always appreciate a player who gives everything he's got but sometimes guys try to get too fancy. Grigsby does this a lot to. Juking & jiving for 3 yards when running straight ahead for 6 yards is better.
  2. I worry about the delicate pysche of this team. For example, Grigsby (at the risk of harping on him). Its like they thought 'well, we're winning so lets not make any changes we dont have to' even though it seems clear that he either isnt performing as a RB or isnt protecting Willy or both. Its like they are afraid of their own success.
  3. Is the Grigsby experiement over yet? He can have all the shiny stats he wants but hes RB stats are getting worse by the week. Would anyone else have worse stats if they were as involved in the offense? Sask seemed to pressure Willy at will. Where was the blocking? Im not going to get too choked about one loss but this team was way too close to having 3, 4 losses this season. It could go either way. And Willy, as a rookie QB is going to have games like that where he was awful.
  4. Doesnt matter if Buff would sign here. I dont think thats the issue at all. The Jets shouldnt be keeping every player who wants to come to WInnipeg. I have little doubt Buff would resign here. He doesnt seem to have an ego about it and he signed his contract in Atlanta when it seemed all but certain the team was moving but not certain where. So he didnt care where he played. Winnipeg is close to home for him too. The issue is, what Buff does for the Jets is not going to put us over the top. By the time the Jets are in a position to have Playoff success with a player like Buff, we'll be lucky if we can get one post-season out of him. He is worth more now than he will be in one season or two seasons or three seasons. He's an aging player who happens to be in his prime. But at his size and lack of fitness, he's not going to be the same type of player at 35. Trade him now. While you still can. I think the other issue with trades this year is, no team wants to trade their first round pick next year on the chance they might be a lottery team. By the trade deadline or the draft at the latest, teams will have a better idea where they stack and will be more willing to trade their first or second rounders.
  5. Fourth word is "dreadful" as in "Drew Will was ____"
  6. It has absolutely nothing to do with your point, which I accept as valid, and everything to do with the way you express yourself on a regular basis. This --> "Anyone who thinks _______ is stupid/naïve/etc..." is an inflammatory post, regardless of the point you're making. Myn post poking fun at Atomic's knotted panties got deleted so Ill address the point in a more, ahem, pointed fashion. Ill debate all day long anyone who wants to debate anything but I think its unfortunate that Atomic felt the need to attack me rather than make a counter-point. Its great when a serious topic can be discussed by intelligent folks but someone always has to ruin it with irrelevent remarks about the person and not the perspective. If Atomic feels that its relevent to connect Christianity with prejudice, I feel sorry for him. I made my point that no one can use the Bible as concrete examples of anything, merely a guide. The point remains. If someone has a strong counter Ill be happy be proven wrong.
  7. This team has been desperately trying to give a game away and they did it tonight.
  8. Regarding the first bolded sentence, I would say that it is sad that people are stupid enough to make the connection between having the traditional Christian view of homosexuality and anti-gay hatred. I'm curious to know what the traditional christian view of homosexuality is Well... The Bible refers to sexual practices that may be called "homosexual" in today's world, but the original language texts of the Bible do not refer explicitly to homosexuality as a sexual orientation. For example, passages in the Old Testament book Leviticus prohibit "lying with mankind as with womankind" and the story of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19) has been interpreted by some as condemning homosexual practice. My argument is the Bible was written by man X amount of years ago in a very, very, very different world. The idea that the Bible is the word of God is simply not true. Its the word of man interpreting what he believes is the word of God with all the personal and political influences of the time. Any religious person who holds the Bible up as the final word on anything is pretty damn naive. Anything at all? Where do you put things like the Golden Rule? Where do you think the Civil Law system originated from? I think you know exactly what I meant. Probably. But the post is poorly worded and inflammatory. No it's not. It is incredibly inflammatory, as are most of your posts. Do you actually not realize that? I thought you did it on purpose. You have a very narrow perspective if thats what you think. And obviously most of my posts are not incredibly inflammatory. Someone who has an opposing view but lacks the ability to make a strong point might think that. But I cannot say for sure whether you really mean that or are just being argumentative. Clearly everyone else understood my point. if it went over your head Ill explain. There is NOTHING that anyone can use the Bible to support as a concrete and definitive point because the Bible is far to contradictory. It is literally impossible to ever say "...the Bible says so so its fact..." because of the contraditions. The Bible is a wonderful guide and has some wonderful things to say. But as "law" its very flawed.
  9. Well, that would kind of depend on what is coming back the other way. Absolutely. But Buff is subject to the laws of diminising returns. His size and age work against him. He's still one of the best offensive D-men in the NHL and probably the most unique player, the only bonafide hybrid player currently (regular Offensive player and Defensemen on Special Teams). There has long been rumours of teams being very interested in him which would presume that the return would be significant. So trade him. By the time Buff's skills put the Jets over the top, his skills wont put the Jets over the top. If that makes sense...he's our most tradeable asset.
  10. To me, this sums it all up. Another year of non-action could be (even more) detrimental to this team. Clearly this offseason was not deemed the time to decide whether they're a) a team that's close, a piece or 2 away from playoffs year in year out or closer to a rebuild, in need of more picks (esp high end / 1st rounders), aka Our Core Isn't Good Enough. The only decision out of Jets HQ that's been crystal clear is that they're approaching this season like they have each of the past 3; very little changeover and hoping for improvement from within. I don't think you'll find any logic to suggest we'd be in a playoff run come trade deadline - if that happens, suffice to say some significant players would have to be significantly better than they've been or are expected to be - Pavelec, Bogosian, Kane immediately come to mind. Even if the Jets are much better than expected, I think they'll be a ways out by then unless a central division team regresses big time. The Dallas vs. Wpg debate may have been interesting last year - but this year? They have Seguin, Spezza, Eakin and Horcoff down the middle - maybe the most deep at C league-wide. Their "core" vs ours = not even a debate, their's wins in a landslide. We might disagree about the quality of their bottom six... Cole, Horcoff, Garbutt... meh If Scheif steps up, all of a sudden our centre lineup is decent - Perrault is as good or better than Eakin. Basically the whole season relies on Scheifele and Kane getting better. Ladd-Little-Frolik Kane-Scheif-ODell(?) Buff-Perrault-Wheeler Halischuk-Slater-Galiardi I liked ODell's chemistry with Kane and Scheif - I think this top 9 could get us into the playoffs. Fourth line is still pretty suspect - and one or two injuries will sink this team. At 24 yrs old, with all of 30 games and 3 NHL goals under his belt, I'm not sure O'Dell is 2nd line material - esp if Kane and Sheif are as important as you're suggesting. LOL not even. Eakin is a nice bottom 6 centre but lots of teams have those guys, Horcoff though is an old guy who is fading really really fast. I mean he was playing like a legit top line centre for a couple years in Edmonton, but that's only a few years shy of being a decade ago, he's not anywhere close to the same player. I think you're underrating Eakin. He's the prototypical 3rd line grinder with some speed and finishing ability. I'm without direct references, but I recall Dallas staff speaking glowingly of his progress last season. Agree completely with your points about Horcoff.... that's why I'd love him on my 4th line. He's been there, done that, and while of course not the player he once was, in a real pinch he could move up the depth chart. We're relying on a guy who can't stay healthy or score. Love Slater, but HE'S our best 4th liner right now....and that's no good... If Galiardi, Halischuk, Tangradi end up on the 4th line, thats a pretty good improvement for the bottom 3
  11. Im not sure Odell is good enough to be an NHL regular. I would question not trading Buff by next summer. Unless he has a huge year for us ofcourse, in which case Chevy is a genius for keeping him. But to me, the upside to trading Buff far outweighs the benefits to keeping him.

  13. No way. You can't get me to back down on what I believe. Brooklyn 99 is a fantastic show! One of the top 3 comedies on TV right now. Is that that awful "comedy" cop show?
  14. great points. There are many example of unexplained or miracles or oddities. Could they be explained by science? Many likely could, some not. Is it science we simply dont know yet? Maybe.

  17. If I was the network behind DD (I cant recall the Network off the top of my head), my position would have been "absolutely this guy has the right to his opinion. But as a business we have the right to choose who we do business with. And we choose not to do business with someone who hates gays." Period. Thats not an attack on Christianity. its an attack on hate. I was really ashamed of that Network for caving to the pressure.
  18. I just had this debate with a friend of mine actually. I have no issue with people believing in a higher power. Who is anyone to say that God doesn't exist? God doesnt have to mean a beam of light living on a cloud. There is enough oddity in the world that I can accept we dont know everything about live, creation, existence etc. Some would have you believe that the stories of Gods and visitors and creators were due to alien intervention in early human history.
  19. I agree with you Max. I indentify as a Christian though Im not much of a Church goer these days. My parents certainly are. I actually discussed this very topic with my mom who has zero issue with gays. She explained their Church' official position was that you are born gay and thus, it was God's will. And thus, being gay cannot be a sin. But the Church believes gay acts are sinful (go figure). I guess it's a step in the right direction though. The sad thing about religion is, it can so rewarding and fulfilling and yet too many people use it as a crutch and an excuse to hate others. I cannot possibly imagine the craziness inside a person's head where they think its okay to hate people in the name of Jesus Christ. Does not compute. But you look at the mid-east and its war over religion. I dont want to blindly defend Isreal but Ive been shocked by the mainstream anti-Isreal positions taken by a lot of people. If Mexico was shooting missles into Texas on a regular basis, Mexico wouldnt be around very long and Obama wouldnt be open to a differing opinion on that from a mid-east leader.
  20. Its sad that some people are actually stupid enough to make the connection between anti-Christian and anti-prejudice. The idiot on Duck Dynasty hiding behind religion to spew his hatred does a dis-service to religious people everywhere and it's unfortunate that so many people jumped to his defense. You can be a Christian without hating gays. I dislike censorship but when it comes down to a choice between hate or not hate, its a shame the network behind DD caved under the pressure of the ignorant right. As an aside, this very topic led to me getting banned from a Jets forum because one of the admins was VERY religious and openly expressed his believe that being gay was a choice. In 2014. lol
  21. Ive never heard one player express unhappiness with being in Winnipeg. Sure, for the most part, no player ever would. But even when the team was in Atlanta, you didnt year any complain. I remember Buff signing that long term deal and being asked "what if the team moves to Winnipeg" and he said "close to home, great fans". The Bombers actually relied upon some players recruiting because the franchise had such a poor rep after the past few years. Korey Banks in particular directly led to other guys coming here (Nick Moore, I believe). So that happens.
  22. I dont think anyone says they dont want to get into the playoffs and lose. I dont think anyone thinks the Jets will go from out of the playoffs to cup finalists. Its about steady growth. I agree that we've been pretty close. I think the point is, Chevy isnt going to trade future value for "win now" value when that win now value isnt a guarantee. Would he trade the future for Crosby? Sure. But thats not going to happen. Trading Kane for another top six winger is net neutral. Thats why the jets reportedly want a big package to trade him. A time will come when our young players and picks have developed to the point where we can trade picks, prospects or roster players for the "missing ingredients" but we're not there yet. Chevy wants to win and get better, hence why he's been in on big name free agents. He's just not going to make blockbuster trades to get those types of players, at least not yet.
  23. Ill be in the best seat in the house. My house. Where the best seat is the recliner in front of the big screen with me in my gitch with pizza and beer.
  24. Pittsburgh was a wasteland. I've heard people say Pittsburgh, as a city, sucks. But they sign whomever they want because they are winners and because playing with elite talent makes good talent seem better and thus they make more money. I think the one thing that factors in moreso than winning or playing with good players is wives. A 25 year old hockey player probably doesnt care where he plays as along as he's winning, having fun and making money. Afterall, who cares if it's -25 in January when the player is playing or practicing every day and traveling to PHX or Florida? You know who cares? His wife who is sitting at home in the condo wondering when she gets to show off her bikini body and fake tan with 6 feet of snow on the ground.
