  1. True but it might not excuse Gawker's actions from legal consequence. The issue with Hogan, and we can debate this forever probably, is that Im not going to say he *is* a racist. I dont know him. His words were awful and he deserves shame and consequence as a result. But think of the worst things you've ever said in private and imagine if they were secretly recorded and broadcast to the world...how would it reflect on you?
  2. Jarret Stoll is her longtime boyfriend. The sex tape wouldnt have hurt Hogan either (he wouldnt have lost his job, probably wouldnt have lost endorsements either). But the racist remarks he made, those coming out have most definitely hurt his career. He's lost a significant amount of money as a result. So for Hogan, the release of a tape he didnt know was being made has definitely hurt him.
  3. Im not sure I agree. I dont Erin Andrews benefited from having her privacy violated in such a creepy way. And even if she did, she didnt get a say in it. Id take her at her word that it had a very negative impact on her. Apparently, her case is banned from being mentioned at the Hogan/Gawker trial because its so different. Andrews didnt sue any websites that posted video/pics. She sued the guy that did it and the hotel that facilitated it and won. Hogan settled with the guy that did it (Bubba The Love Sponge) for a tiny amount ($5000). This is an interesting case. Was Hogan truly damaged? As a public figure did Gawker have a right to post the tape? Personally, I hope Hogan wins and ends up $100m richer and Gawker is gone. But it will be an interesting legal argument. Before the trial, I think Gawker was concerned (trying to settle) but from what I read, they arent doing too badly in court.
  4. It was suitably heartwarming I guess. But there was a fatal flaw in the logic. Spoiler Alert. When asked if the booze was the flight attendants, it was set up where he either had to say yes and get off or say no and be implicated. But the real choice was "How the heck would I know?" He cant testify to what the flight attendant did or did not do. But otherwise, it was a good movie. I thought it was going to be a PG rated average film and right off the hop a full frontal nude women walks past the camera and I sat up straight. It was really really good.
  5. He makes an interesting point though, about the difference between Hulk Hogan and Terry Bollea (besides the fact Hogan has a 10" wang and Terry doesnt).
  6. Dont forget William Shatner from the Twilight Zone.
  7. Yeah I wouldnt bridge him. Like you said, the benefit to a bridge is to have him still be an RFA in three years and then you sign the 8 year deal and you ensure you keep the player as long as possible. But I dont get the impression Scheif will be a hard guy to re-sign down the road. I'd sign him to an 8 year deal. Its a feel good story too. The first draft pick, comes into his own at the end of his final ELC year and signs a max contract and possibly gets the "c"? Great story. As for the "C", I'd defer to the players and management. There are good reasons for either Scheif and Wheeler for those of us on the inside looking in. But we dont know the inside stuff. It could very well be that Wheeler tells management that this is going to be Scheif's team and give him the "C". Scheif made comments recently about learning from Ladd certain aspects of being a leader. It makes me wonder if Ladd was specifically grooming Scheif for the role of its just stuff Scheif picked up. Either way, Wheeler seems the most obvious now, but it doesnt mean choosing Mark is the wrong decision.
  8. What was the airplane related one Liam did? That was pretty decent actually. Non-Stop? Have we had a "Flight" reference? Tremendous movie. Also, Castaway might make for a good one too.. ;-)
  9. They formed in 1985. As a booker of a wrestling promotion myself now, I am pretty influenced by that group and often have a strong heel clique. Anyway, sorry for the rasslin talk. When I was a kid I knew of the Four Horsemen in wrestling before I knew there was a Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse!
  10. I tend to agree. I guess it depends how you look at it. Are we paying more on those later years or is Scheif taking less to get a longer commitment? If they can get him for $5,5m, it probably looks really good in about two years when that would be a bargain for a 25-30 goal scorer (assuming he becomes a consistent scorer).
  11. Yup. My dad was a techy and belonged to a few groups, including an early computer club. After one meeting (with whatever group), he came home and made a little box that included some wiring, a switch and tinfoil. And we were able to watch grainy PPV movies. Sometimes the quality was really good...other times awful.
  12. You stopped watching wrestling BEFORE the Four Horsemem? They were almost before my time... lol
  13. I dont disagree. But Owen's fans shouldn't be judged for wanting to celebrate his talent. Legally she has no say in what WWE does (she tried to assert legal rights over his name and image and lost). WWE was criticized for making the Owen DVD recently and I see both sides. The criticism is that Owen dying the way he did made him a bigger star than he was and the Owen up to his death would never have warranted a 3 DVD set of his life and career years later. So in a way, WWE was capitalizing financially on the death of a wrestler who died performing a stupid stunt at their behest. On the other, the DVD sold well and was well received. If I was WWE I would have donated proceeds to the Owen Hart Foundation, and if Martha declined, to another charity of the family (the non-Martha side) choosing. I assume Martha is now cashing the WWE cheques (she had refused to take royalties in the past and then sued WWE claiming they were profiting off Owen's image without legal right. WWE's response was that they had tired to give her royalties and she refused and they had been holding them for her. I would think she'd accept them either on behalf of her children or her charity.
  14. The senior media correspondent in the city? Whose voice is heard in every scrum? Lawless' MO is to "speculate" about things he's pretty sure about. Maybe he's just really intuitive but I don't believe for a second he was blackballed.
  15. I want the best draft pick. But I can't cheer against the Jets when I'm watching them. Even I try. I just can't. So I don't often watch....
  16. I wouldn't rule out Phillips making the NHL one day. Same with Kasdorf who I liked even before the Buffalo trade. He was a longer shot prospect then Armia and Lemieux but he was included for a reason.
  17. Hmmmm I don't see Tully or Arn.
  18. It wouldnt surprise me if the expansion fee scared them off. And if corporate support is lacking, that could give them some pause. its one thing to pay a huge expansion fee if you know you'll eventually recoup it over many years but if there is any risk involved at all, then its crazy. Look how close the Jets operate to the profit/loss line (not including all their other businesses).
  19. So who is saying someone cant do that? Where does the amendement mention that a citizen has the right to the most power weapons RIGHT NOW? It doesnt. The government should be able to add wait times and vetting and their discretion.
  20. The so-called apology in his book was more or less a throw away line amounting to "oh by the way, I shouldnt have been so misogynistic...but keep buying my misogynistic albums please". And he did it because he was trying to go mainstream. He was actually up to replace Ghomeshi if you can believe it. I dont believe him for one second. At least he was an equal opportunist hater, insulting women, gays and even Aboriginals. So there's that. His apology at the Aboriginal People's Choice Awards was 2014. He knew why he was doing it. The party defending his actions and words as those of an angry youth at a time when he was in his late 20's and in University is laughable. He's a criminal and a pig. If he wants to run, that's his right. But the NDP should suffer the consequences of supporting him. But again, he wanted Steeves to step down due to remarks of his WIFE. So by Wab's standards, he himself should drop out of the race. Why can't we hold Wab to his own standards?
