  1. The only ego on display is yours, a bruised one. Bigg Jay had no problem engaging in discussion without insults or mockery. Why can't you? You expressed an opinion. I expressed a different opinion. If you feel strongly that you are correct, by all means, explain it to us. If, after reading my explanation you are unable to formulate a counter-argument, then at least admit you simply cant express a logical counter thought, dont insult me. I don't have all the answers to everything. But as I'm involved in the business for the past 15 years, I do have a strong knowledge. If you want to "Ask TUP", go ahead and ask. If you want to share opinions, go ahead. But why is ISO meant to proclaim an opinion and everyone is supposed to just agree and move on? Owen Hart is a great topic for discussion. A tremendous wrestler. You started a relevant topic. Unfortunately, you folded your hand so quickly.
  2. Connor is something else, wow. They say he's 6'1", 175lbs and his size is the only issue. But he has a good sized frame. Once he gets with the Jets' fitness development guys, he should hopefully pack on another 25-30 lbs. The Jets will likely take it slow with him, I'd say 3rd line to start the season. But it wouldnt surprise me to see him be a consistent top six guy next year.
  3. Absolutely! I love the backstage stuff. Its not as fun as it used to be now that WWE is so corporate. But there were some good stories for awhile. One of the reasons Heyman was fired is because Steph hated him. He was booker of Smackdown and she was booker of RAW (she was actually in charge of both but Paul had a lot of freedom with SD). Paul considered the brand extension to be "real" and wanted to beat RAW in the ratings. Which SD did consistently at this time. Paul got the code to phone into a RAW creative meeting and would listen to their plans. Steph found out one day (there was an extra "beep" on the line) and she was furious that Paul was "spying" (one big happy company, right?). Paul was eventually moved to ECW and after the awful December to Dismember PPV where Vince changed a bunch of things and Heyman was openly insubordinate to Vince backstage while watching, he was canned. Steph was always paranoid. She insisted that all the creative staff only use corporate cell phones and laptops so she could audit them whenever she wanted looking for leaks. Hunter was notorious for cutting guys' balls off. Since he "retired" he's been a lot better but its still pretty apparent he cant view his own angles without ego getting in the way. Saw a Scott Hall interview where he said he and Nash were at ringside when Hunter and Sting were going over their WM match and Hunter laid out the finish and Hall couldn't believe that Sting was laying down. He said Sting should have had it in his contract that he gets a win at WM because "ofcourse Hunter is going to go over..." EDIT: Another thing is that Vince is pretty smart when it comes to money and corporate. He will work with anyone to make money and water under the bridge. Hunter & Steph hold grudges (although to be fair Hunter brought back Billy Gunn). When AJ Lee, while under contract, sent Steph a nasty tweet about women being treated poorly compared to men in WWE, Steph was ready to strangle her and Vince cooled her off and made her publicly thank AJ for bringing it up. Daniel Bryan is apparently at RAW tonight. Hunter met with Kurt Angle this past week which is interesting because there was heat between them a year or two ago when Hunter declined Angle's request to come back. Coincidentally, RAW is in Angle's home town tonight....a place where, if he was to return, he'd get an earth shattering response.
  4. So some interesting rumors/speculation. This will sound nuts but most things involving the McMahon's are nuts. There is some sort of minor power struggle between Vince and Hunter. Publicly they say all the right things. Hunter says Vince loves NXT. Vince says he's so proud of what Hunter has accomplished. But reportedly Vince hates NXT and sees it as an unnecessary expense for a touring brand filled with talent that will never draw. Vince resents that people think he needs to step aside and let Hunter take over. Vince is determined never to step aside. Hunter has complete control of NXT but there have been examples of Vince showing Hunter up. For example, before Charlotte joined the main roster, she did a surprise match on RAW to hype an upcoming NXT show and she lost in a squash. Hunter remarked a few days later that he agreed it was stupid. Tyler Breeze was considered a star in NXT with lots of potential but is a jobber on RAW. Owens came in with a push but was then defeated by Cena in back to back matches. There was heat on Hunter for not selling a beating on RAW - he was beat up an injured and then appeared on the NXT show a few days later and then back on RAW they had Roman say no one had seen Hunter since the previous RAW. Made Roman look stupid. So many people behind the scenes think Shane might end up back in WWE as an executive and be used by Vince to play off Hunter. The real power struggle might eventually be Shane vs Hunter. Shane did legitimately leave WWE because Steph was the chosen ahead of him. But Vince might use him to put Hunter in his place. Shane is really laid back so he might not want the office politics but I'd suspect he ends up back at WWE. He apparently sold off most of his WWE stock and invested it in his China company which has been losing money. So while he probably doesnt *need* money, he's only 46 and sees the tens of millions of dollars his sister makes... Last RAW, Shane's promo was changed at the last minute. He was supposed to respond to everything Stephanie had said in her promo and say he hoped she and Hunter kept their word and quit after WM because if not, he was going to fire them both on RAW the next night. It was re-written so Shane never responded to Stephanie (which was weird), and to bury Vince as old and out of touch. Games are being played. The outcome of Shane vs Undertaker could be pretty telling. There was also heat on Hunter for how he played to the crowd while beating up Roman and the crotch chop was seen as him basically thumbing his nose at Roman. Hunter *was* a big Roman supporter but might not be anymore. The scene where Hunter and Bray did the face to face and the fans responded is to make fans think Hunter might win at WM, and thus is setting up his next program. But some think it's actually Hunter putting into motion a plan to win at WM, turn face and feud with Bray. That's why I think if anything, the Wyatt's might help Shane win. And the swerve becomes Shane turning heel. This is all moot if Shane decides he doesnt want to be around. By the way, Shane is working with Tommy Dreamer to prepare for his match.
  5. Opinions vary. In this case, yours is wrong.
  6. Heath Ledger's joker was the best Joker ever put to film. Watchmen was a great film, one of the best films of all time. Im not a Watchmen comic fan either, had never even heard of them when I saw the movie. Id didnt get it when watching it in the theatre and finally "understood" it at the end...and caught it on Movie Central and fell in love with it. But Snyder is way more miss than hit so Im worried about BvS... There was also talk of re-writes happening during filming which is generally not a great sign...
  7. Which part? It makes perfect sense. Bret Hart was one of the biggest stars of all time. Owen was a super talented mid-card guy who's top run was when his brother hand picked him for the program. I love Owen. Some argue he was a better worker than Bret. But he wasnt and was very unlikely to ever be a bigger star. Assuming he worked til he was 40 (and his wife says he was soon to retire), in those 6 years between his death and age 40, he would have had to go from being the Blue Blazer comedy act to a serious top guy and then win 7 World Heavyweight Championships just to equal Bret. And in 1999, that simply wasnt going to happen. He *was* probably going to win the IC title again but as the Blue Blazer doing comedy. When the top of the card was Austin, Rocky, Hunter, Undertaker, Owen wasnt going to be a top guy. Austin had heat with him. Hunter claims to have loved him but the clique and the Harts never got alone and when Michaels & Hunter had power they nixed Owen's promised push. It would have taken Rocky demanding to work a program with Owen. And it wasnt going to happen. Wrestling a business of trends. Its rare for a guy to plug along at a medium level and suddenly get a push out of the blue. In 2001, they bought WCW and were flooded with more workers, making it even tougher. If anything, if he was able to become a fan darling (like Foley or Bryan) he might have gotten a short run with the title as a reward but I would bet against that happening. But 7 world titles? Never.
  8. I liked Superman Returns way more than Man of Steel. MOS was a total mess and the only reason why I am cautious about BvS. Civil War will make more unless BvS is really, really good. And Im not sure it will be a home run.
  9. Well Owen was 34 when he died. Anything is possible but it's highly unlikely he would have suddenly been pushed to an extent where he would have rivaled Bret. Rock and Austin and Hunter and undertaker were too big for Owen to break through.
  10. Talk of bray being hurt. Apparently some WM plans have changed in the past few days so that could impact it too i sort of suspect Wyatt family might be the ones who Interfer on Shane's behalf.
  11. Owen never would have done more than Bret. If Owen didn't win the World Championship during his feud with Bret he was never going to. By 99 he was back as a mid card comedy act. The original plan proposed by WWE for the brother vs brother feud was Bret bs Bruce. Bret had it changed to Owen. But it shows was Vince thought of Owen. When Owen returned to WWE after the Montreal screwjob he was promised a big push and ended up being jobbed to Hunter. His wife claims Owen was preparing to leave WWE when his ckntract was up as his dream was to be a fire fighter and be close to home. Owen was as big a star as he was ever going to be.
  12. Yup agreed. His style was tremendous. He really epitomized the idea that wrestling is supposed to look like you're killing your opponent without so much as bruising him. He was a master.
  13. Bret was underrated for his promo work because his style was much like his wrestling style - realistic. His promo work in 1997 was best in the business. No one else has eber been the number one face and the number one heel at the same time. He was dynamite.
  14. I recall hearing that. But ofcourse as with most things the better the odds the better the outcome.
  15. Then the NHL says no problem, lock out. Players will always give in.
  16. The league has nothing to do with this decision.
  17. It's too bad. there was relevant discussion among the crap. Posts shouldn't be deleted unless there is genuine cause by way of personal attains or libel. That's my opinion. If anyone wonders about certain aspects of Indy wrestling please feel free to ask. There was some incorrect info posted here before. I love talking wrestling and have 15 years in the industry. By the way, Sheamus sucks
  18. Edward Norton's Hulk is canon in the MCU, isn't it? Didn't Black Widow find him in the same place the character left off in Norton's film? I might be mis-remembering...
  19. I think its probably in reaction to people wanting to know his condition and a sense of incredulousness that the suspension was reduced. Im sure it surprised everyone so they are saying "this is BS, our guy is gone for the season and this guy can't sit 20 games?" It was weird because the arbitrator took so long in deciding that it seemed to support the idea he'd uphold the suspension. Since, as Lawless pointed out, Wideman can get the money but he can't get the games back.
  20. Everytime Wideman takes a penalty they should throw him from the game and claim its for his own safety as they are concerned he might have a concussion and do something he won't remember. I bet Marty McSorely is wishing he had this arbitrator. Bettman won't take this laying down. This will become a major issue in the next CBA. The NHL will fight to be able to police their league as they see fit. If I recall, Bettman said he was more inclined to make the suspension longer than shorter. Can the linesman file a police report?
  21. Hunter would have made it on his own. In fact he did. He probably had more help by being pals with Michaels and Nash. But he was World Champion before he started dating Stephanie. He was given a lot of opportunity to make it though. He would have a much harder time making it today without the friends in high places that he had. Even then, he still was punished quite severely for the "Curtain Call", where he, Nash, Hall & Michaels broke character when Nash & Hall were leaving for WCW, So even having friends, he suffered to consequences. He was initially booked to win King of the Ring that year but it was changed to Steve Austin to punish Hunter. Hunter benefitted from working with Rocky, Austin and Foley who were all far more over than he was. He even benefitted from Michaels retiring because they liked DX and needed a new leader so it was him. He never had the charisma of those other guys but he was a very good worker. Dating Steph definitely helped him eventually. He became a lifer and its easy to trust lifers. Although it could have also blown up in his face big time. Bret Hart was a better worker with more charisma and I'd say better on the mic though they are pretty comparable. Hart was a bigger star all time than Hunter.
  22. Id love if the refs could take some kind of action. How about a work stoppage on day one of the playoffs. CBA probably prevents that. But gee it would suck if all the officials came down with the flu at the same time right before the games the ruling doesn't even make sense. He's taking at face value that Wideman didn't know what he was doing due to a concussion. So every time a player gets suspended he can claim whoops lost my mind and don't rememeber. It's actually making light of a serious situation. Didnt Wideman initially say he didn't see him, not that he doesn't rememebr doing it?
  23. For sure They will. They will fall to last place and then end the season on a tear.
  24. Winnipeg sun Kyle Connor isn't ready to let himself think, let alone talk, about what the future may bring. It's become apparent that the Winnipeg Jets prospect is going to have an important decision to make once his freshman season with the University of Michigan Wolverines comes to an end. But Connor, who is one of the most prolific scorers in the NCAA this season, is determined to keep that season alive for as long as possible. “It's huge,” Connor said after scoring two goals in a 7-1 victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions at Yost Ice Arena on Friday night. “Obviously, you play out the season. Winnipeg will have their input, then I'll sit down with my family and with coach (Red) Berenson and we'll see what's best for me.” Connor didn't expand on what will factor into his final decision, but he's a bright guy and will give it plenty of thought. With those two goals Friday, Connor now has 28 goals and 59 points in 33 games – with the regular-season finale set for Saturday night. As a point of reference, Detroit Red Wings centre Dylan Larkin had 15 goals and 47 points in 35 games as a freshman for the Wolverines last season and Buffalo Sabres centre Jack Eichel had 26 goals and 71 points in 40 games as a freshman for Boston University. Both made a seamless transition to the NHL. Obviously, all three of those guys are different players but it stands to reason that Connor is going to explore the possibility of signing an entry-level deal and giving professional hockey a shot. For the time being, Connor finds himself right in the thick of the chase for the Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the top player in NCAA men's hockey. “I don't try to think about that at all,” said Connor, who is listed at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds. “To be in the mix, it's such a prestigious award. I just try to bring it every single day and work hard.” Connor was as surprised as anybody by his omission from Team USA for the world junior hockey championship. “I was a little disappointed, I guess a little pissed off,” said Connor. “I kind of used that as a motivator and I really started to pick my game up (after that).” Wolverines head coach Red Berenson believes Connor's progression has been steady over the course of the season. “What's evolved the most? Consistency is a big thing,” said Berenson. “I can't tell you there's been a dramatic change between October and March. There's a confidence that was growing and now it's consistency. “It's hard to keep him off the scoresheet. Even in tough games, he's making plays. He's as good as it gets with the puck.” In my first live game viewing of Connor, the explosive skating ability jumped right off the page. Think Nikolaj Ehlers fast. And like Ehlers has for a good chunk of the season, Connor plays along the half wall on his off side on the power play. In that formation, Connor jumped down and buried a one-timer after a perfect cross-ice pass from Colorado Avalanche prospect JT Compher for a power-play goal on Friday just 30 seconds into the third period. The offensive numbers make it obvious that Connor can do some dynamic things in the offensive zone. But ultimately, it's his play without the puck that is going to earn the trust of the coaching staff and allow him to move into a top-six role at the next level. Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff was in attendance on Friday night and was quick to point out some improvements in Connor's game. “He has come a long way in his defensive-zone play and awareness from when I saw him play earlier this season,” said Cheveldayoff. This is not to suggest that Connor goes away from his strengths. He's never going to throwing his weight around much, but he'll need to go to the hard areas on a more regular basis to put up points in the NHL and that's something that should come with time. Like most young players, Connor has things to work on, but he's driven to improve. And with a skill-set that dazzles, it's looking more and more like Connor was a steal at 17th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft. And he could be coming to an NHL rink sooner than most people would have thought. Whether it's this fall or next, what's abundantly clear is that once Connor arrives, he's got the ability to bring folks out of their seats and put up some impressive numbers. For a team like the Jets that could use an injection of goal-scoring, you can be bet they wouldn't be overly disappointed if Connor decided to leave school and forced his way into a top-six role come October. Stay tuned. Larkin made right decision Dylan Larkin knows exactly what Kyle Connor will be going through in the coming months. It was just over a year ago that Larkin made the decision that one season with the University of Michigan Wolerines was enough for him and that he was ready to give the pro game a shot with the Detroit Red Wings. After putting up 15 goals and 47 points for the Wolverines last season, Larkin has made a smooth transition to the NHL, recording 20 goals and 40 points in 65 games with the Red Wings while being named to the all-star game as a rookie. “Every player is different, but this was something I wanted,” said Larkin. “I didn't want to go back and spend another year (in college). I wanted to be a professional and take a chance. It was my decision.” Larkin has been to a couple of Wolverines games this season and has been a sounding board for Connor. “It's really impressive what he's doing,” said Larkin. “It will be exciting to see what he does (at the end of the season). I've talked to him and gave him some advice early in the season. I just said to enjoy your time, whether it's one year or two years. Enjoy it, have fun and do things that a student would do. Then on the ice, just be yourself and don't take a back seat to anyone. “He certainly hasn't.” kwiebe@postmedia.com
