  1. By my calculations they can finish as high as 5th last. If they win and Arizona loses they are tied in points with the same record. Im too lazy to check other tie breakers. Jets loss and Calgary wins gives Jets 5th last place.
  2. Well one big change is they traded Ladd. Hmmmmmm
  3. They also hope to one day have a high end hotel in the "in between" location between the two buildings but that would down the road.
  4. CBC has a video showing a 3d render flyby. Doesnt look like much space on the SW side for additional builds. But I would assume they make that side look desirable to at least draw people into the mall. Building looks great and the reclad of 360 looks very sharp. The views of the Forks on one side and downtown on the other will be breathtaking.
  5. I havent been down there in a long while but isnt there signifcant parking at WPG Square? I imagine they would turn some of those into monthly deals for the apartments. This is really a wise venture as it will do wonders for Winnipeg Square, increase people down there (im sure the building will be designed to encourage people to go down and having a better above -grade entrance would invite non-residents as well), plus more and better commercial tenants for the mall and increased rent. It's interesting that it's rentals and not condos. Probably smart. I wonder if their thought process is that renters would be "younger" and that feeds their other on-site ventures better. Or just that with the amount of condos going up, a rental building was appealing to an under-served demo. There are likely many young people that would love to own a condo downtown that cant yet afford it but this will be their "entry level" into downtown living and close to many things that appeal to the younger market. EDIT: Apparently the WPG Square parkade is 900 stalls. So there you go.
  6. Sad news. He had been sick for sometime. His family includes Barry Windham (and Kendall), Mike Rotunda (IRS) and as mentioned, Bray and Bo. I believe WWE had recently sued him actually as part of a preemptive effort to scare off veterans who were signing onto a lawsuit over concussions.
  7. There are two pads there also. Hydro tower was considered for that location. Hopefully this amount of activity encourages PP to look into building their towers. But they need some rehab as far as that area is concerned. These projects will bring so many people downtown 24/7 which will increase business as well and there will be a stronger desire to improve the area. Probably push some of the undesirables out. Regardless, this amount of people living in the downtown will make the area inherently safer, I would suspect. Apparently, Artis also has no objection to the re-opening of P&M. They had been the only hold out. So if true, that is even better news. In time there should be a nice connection and flow between the Forks, P&M down to TNS, CityPlace, MTSC and hopefully all the way down to PP.
  8. That's a good point. Perhaps they are hoping for a crowd that doesnt drive. Starting in February, completed two years later. Announced as 40 floors but the render provided shows 44. So not sure. *should* end up as the tallest in Winnipeg (beating out 201 Portage). She's a big one! EDIT: Should also note the project includes a re-cladding of existing 360 main building and the construction of a smaller building to connect the,. Also seems to leave room at the SW corner for further development in the future. Between this, TNS, Glasshouse and Skycity, downtown is going to look a lot different in 5 years with a TON of people living there. And almost $1b of private investment into Winnipeg downtown. Not to mention Forks Development is eventually forthcoming too...
  9. They are playing especially considering who's missing from the line up. Gives hope for the future.
  10. Apparently they built pads for high rises when Winnipeg Square was built. So nope. They are already ahead of the game. They even said they considered going taller but the existing foundation couldnt support anymore weight. This *should* enhance Winnipeg Square. Certainly having 400 apartment units right above it with an entrance to the undergound in the lobby of the building should drive more people down there. Its just what WPG Square needs.
  11. http://www.metronews.ca/news/winnipeg/2016/04/07/tallest-building-in-winnipeg-proposed-for-portage-and-graham.html?cq_ck=1460047566287 Local developers Artis REIT announced the proposed residential and commercial tower on Thursday, which would cost about $165 million. The 40-storey tower would feature 36 floors of residential and four floors of commercial and amenity space and would be situated at 300 Main Street at Graham Avenue. The building would be the tallest in Winnipeg, and the tallest building between here and Calgary.
  12. Some spoiler speculation from the Rogue One trailer: Not spoiler: Mon Mothma is spot on. Fantastic.
  13. Here is a great summary of everything wrong with Superman http://www.latino-review.com/news/dear-zack-snyder I agree with it completely. I had this discussion with some friends while we tried to pinpoint what was lacking in Superman because it was sort of difficult to do. But at the time I compared him to Reeve's Superman and said he just doesnt have any hope. He talks about hope but never shows it. The other thing the link hits is that Reeve's Superman was truly alone, or at least felt that way. He was an outsider in every sense. He kept a distance from Lois because he felt he could never endanger her. He sacrificed joy and happiness for the greater good of his purpose. When he tried to be with her, it led to disaster. In Snyder's version, he immediately falls for Lois and they are together. He isnt making any sacrifices. While he seems to struggle with what his purpose is, there is no depth to that. Reeve's Superman struggled with his purpose when his father died but when he went to the Fortress and discovered who he was, it suddenly all became clear to him, what his purpose was. He never wavered until the time with Lois and then realised it was wrong. The goofy aspects to Reeve's Clark Kent was important to show a dichotomy between who he really was (Superman/Kal-El) and who he pretended to be (Kent). Those moments where, in the Kent costume, he'd get serious or show a different emotion in a subtle way, were powerful. Snyder's Superman is just Superman. All the time. One good scene in BvS was Ma Kent telling Superman he doesnt owe the world anything. But it was kind of a fleeting moment. And if Pa Kent had been more supportive in MoS, that difference in opinion between the two parents would have been more interesting. The fact Pa Kent told Clark to let people die rather than use his powers was silly. The Pa death scene was awful. It was reminiscent of Uncle Ben's death in that it was completely preventable by the hero but he chose not to do so. In Spider-man that choice ALWAYS mattered and impacted Peter. In MoS, it never did. In Reeve's version, the fact Pa died of a heart attack was critically important. Because for all his power, Superman couldn't save him. It was a lesson. Snyder's Superman doesnt learn any lessons. If I recall from the comics, the Superman/Batman relationship worked because they truly respected each other but didnt particularly like each other. Superman still loathed Batman's methods. Batman thought Superman could do more but was too boy-scout. Yet they trusted each other. In Snyder's film we get the manipulated and irrational fight and then they are friends. We get none of the actual interesting relationship. The link makes a great point that Marvel took their "one dimensional boy scout", Captain America and really made him relevant in a way that Superman should be. Captain America is more Superman than Superman is. Rant over. lol
  14. He likely would lose. But there's a possibility of him generating votes from a large number of people that dont normally vote. Ofcourse he might also generate the same thing for people wanting to vote against him. But the doom & gloom over a Trump presidency is a bit overblown. What annoys me as an observer is that the truth and reason isnt enough to discredit someone...the attacks on Trump (and others) are always so exaggerated and inflammatory and extreme. It also annoys me when people "protest" in such a way to stop a perfectly legal rally or speech and cheer when safety concerns get one cancelled. These are people supposedly standing up for America, taking great pride in preventing one of the founding principles of America. Its disgusting really. A polite, reasoned, protest that does not inhibit is a great right they have but they abuse it. And lets be honest, how many of the Trump protests were average Americans and how many were political hit jobs? The Republican's have made their bed and will have to lay in it. They have shot themselves in the foot with their own precious guns. And in a Trump vs Hilary race Ill be hoping for Hilary. But the people who talk about Trump's rhetoric need to take a look at the outrageous anti-Trump rhetoric.
  15. That reminds me of Trudeau's perspective. When the Boston bombing happened his initial remarks were that the victims should examine what they did to drive someone to want to kill them. I wonder if he feels the same way about domestic violence. Then again, he seems to support segregation of women in certain cultures so maybe he does. But that aside, yeah its ridiculous to say ISIS will attack the US because of Trump. I mean, they've gone on record wanting to destruction of the western world and its allies. They hate America. So if Trump is President will they go from hating America to "no really, we mean it this time, we *really* hate America now". There is merit to the suggestion that involvement can create issues. But speaking strongly against ISIS is a requirement of a leader, in my opinion, not a negative.
  16. I agree in theory. Its not so much it's too many, just the wrong ones. If it was a random RAW in June, they wouldnt have done that but being *the* RAW of the year, there is the trend to treat it like a season premiere. Apollo Crews isnt ready. He's a super athlete and will do fine but he isnt ready. Corbin is a big zero to me. On the same show you debut him where his gimmick is basically that he's tall, you debut someone even taller with a better physique, better hair, more charisma (Cass). Enzo & Cass are great. Not great workers. But a great act. Enzo is the type that could be in WWE for 20 years. Cass is exactly what Vince likes. Hopefully they take their time with him because you dont often get a guy that is 7 feet tall with that look who isnt a complete stiff. Sometimes their call ups and the talent they use is for house show purposes, to fill out those shows. So in their mind, they take an act they dont intend to really do anything with, give them a few minutes on RAW and it makes them "marketable" on the house shows. There is merit to that. Vaude Villains are decent workers and an interesting schtick but will end up in the Accession role sooner than later...a mid card tag team for the house shows. They *should* have called up Joe for sure. The thing with NXT is that its really expanded from its original premise. Its not just a developmental territory now. It's its own brand that tours and as a result has to be able to draw on those tours (It wouldnt surprise me if they sell the TV rights eventually too). I think the idea with Balor is, sure he's more than ready to get called up but they cant take all the good workers from NXT. I think thats the same idea with Joe. He was signed to be a veteran worker who could help the younger talent while being a draw on the house shows. Bobby Roode is likely the same motivation. But as Hunter has said, its all about Vince. If he wants someone called up, he's called up. And he's a body guy. Crews and Corbin are just what he loves. So is Cass. Joe isnt. There were rumors that Joe was scheduled for a call up. Nak is supposed to be called up sooner than later too. And ofcourse we still have the Bullet Club about to debut. So there are only so many spots. The success of AJ Styles has surprised Vince. Two years ago WWE offered him a low ball developmental deal so he went to New Japan. Now they offered him a bigger money deal and right to RAW. Vince thought no one would know who he was and he's among the most popular on the house shows. So that changes Vince's thinking a bit. I dont know if she will wrestle regularly or at all. But it makes sense to pair her with Miz. It supports his gimmick as she looks glamorous and its similar to the role she played before she left. She was very good in that role. I'd give them a bodyguard too and push the gimmick hard. The thing about Miz is, ignoring the fact that I actually really like him, is he's a very good soldier for WWE. Because he has a TV background, he's a guy that knows how to do PR and loves doing it and that makes him well-liked and valuable to WWE.
  17. Star Wars: Rogue One trailer:
  18. How many of these players would be considered for the draft in a couple of years? This has to impact that. And what of the players who weren't doping?
  19. Best Player Available. Which depends on how True North rates them. Scheif wasnt considered the BPA at the time but he was to the Jets. I think Ehlers was consensus BPA, wasnt he? Same with Connor who was a surprise to still be there? When you get below the obvious BPA, take the best player that helps you. Im not sure if that's the Jets first pick or Chicago's. Might be BPA with the Jets and Best for their need with Chi's.
  20. I agree @Goalie not sure where the writer got that from. Its not like we're a rookie team. Ladd for most of the year, Wheeler, Little, Buff, Enstrom. We had maturity. If he meant we struggled because of adding youth and giving them a chance to develop, I could at least accept that to a degree. But our #1 priority to address at th draft is maturity? So we're going to draft a 28 year old pro veteran? Sounds like someone didnt know anything about the Jets and decided not to bother. Jets arent far from competing. I actually think it will be a quick turnaround, a "flick the switch" scenario. Might not be next season but I think they go from struggling to win to suddenly winning a lot. The lights will all come on at the same time. As you said, Special Teams and goaltending is the issue here. If Helle's limited stats remained consistent throughout a full season and we played even strength every game, we're in the playoffs.
  21. http://www.tsn.ca/priority-no-1-for-every-canadian-team-1.465748 WINNIPEG Priority One: Maturation Scoop: The Winnipeg Jets probably don’t get enough acknowledgement for being such a young team. They entered the year with the fourth youngest lineup based on average age (ahead of only Edmonton, Buffalo and Tampa Bay). It was the main reason for their undoing. They’re even younger now without Andrew Ladd. GM Kevin Cheveldayoff has a lot of the pieces in place already. Mark Scheifele, 23, has blossomed into a No. 1 centre with 27 goals. Nik Ehlers racked up 35 points as a 19-year-old. Jacob Trouba, 21, and Tyler Myers, 25, can anchor the backend for years to come. And Connor Hellebuyck, 22, will be asked to take the reins in net next year. The Jets don’t really need to add much more, they just need time and room to grow. The problem is that isn’t a luxury in the ultra-competitive Central Division.
  22. Beat me to it. Here is some info from TMZ: Country music legend Merle Haggard has died after battling double pneumonia ... according to his manager. Haggard was diagnosed with pneumonia last year and spent 11 days at the Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage early this year. He died at home near Redding, CA on Wednesday morning. He'd been battling back from the illness and even scheduled a string of concert dates with his pal Willie Nelson. They released an album, "Django and Jimmie" last year. But last week Haggard canceled his shows for the month of April due to his continuing efforts to recover. His manager tells us Merle was weary from battling pneumonia for so long ... and had even predicted to friends he would die on his birthday. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994. Merle turned 79 today. Read more: http://www.tmz.com/2016/04/06/merle-haggard-dead/#ixzz454RJgKNO
  23. WWE has a current trend towards "tweeners" (ie. inbetweeners, those that are inbetween heel and face). Its a "shades of grey" mentality that not every good guy is always good and not every bad guy is always bad. But its awful for storytelling. I struggled with that when I became a booker. I wanted to tell realistic stories where everyone was fighting for the championships and competing with each other. But in wrestling you need heels and faces to tell compelling stories. And when you have that, a real tweener or heel/heel and face/face matches are interesting. When everyone is a tweener, no one is over. Im worried that are trying to co-opt the reaction Roman gets by claiming "this is the reaction we intended" by presenting him as neither good nor bad. Working with Aj is interesting because Roman is likely get a good reaction from kids and women and AJ is going to get the reaction from the men and the more smart fans (and kids). It means good matches. But its a weird dynamic if they want Roman over as a face. So yeah it sort of plants the idea of a heel turn but if they were going to do that they should have done it at WM or RAW. On the other hand, with the Bullet Club scheduled to debut imminently, it could be a set up to Anderson, Gallows, AJ vs a reunited Shield.
  24. The Hollywood Reporter reports WB is not too happy about BvS: "The biggest problem is that it is not turning [DC] into Marvel," says an executive from another studio. "The audience has communicated, as have the critics." They're referring to the film's abysmal reviews, mediocre ratings from fans, and the precipitous box office drop the film took after its first full day in theaters. While competitors feel the film may turn a profit, it will "hardly [...] be the money gusher studios hope for when they pour massive resources into making a giant tentpole." An agent tells THR that this sort of situation is inexcusable. They say that the film features "two of the most iconic characters in history," yet won't come close to the $1.67 billion that a film like JURASSIC WORLD made last year- a sequel/relaunch that came 14 years after JURASSIC PARK 3 effectively killed the franchise. "You can't tell me BATMAN V SUPERMAN is so much less valuable [than JURASSIC WORLD]" they said. The report says that Warner Bros was caught off guard by the response to BvS, which has led to a flurry of rumors that the studio was thinking of doing a course correction for their DC franchis Read more at: https://tr.im/VmerZ
  25. Do you have the option of reassigning a "waiver eligible" player to the AHL before the season begins and avoid waivers? You can in EA Sports game...lol I agree with Rich. If someone will take Pavs, sure. But they will want to keep one of Pavs or Hutch. If they keep both (which I think they will), they have to convince Hutch he's playing in the AHL. Or they leave Helle down when he has certainly outgrown the Moose.
