Yes, correct. Northland Properties. They own Sutton, Sandman, Chop etc. (Look for a Chop inside the Sutton Hotel when its built). And the family owns the Dallas Stars too. So Chipman kept the deal in the NHL family.

I hope so because my friend that scooped one of my Pens players chose mostly Florida.
-
I took 6 D men this year. Didnt even realise it til the end. We're required to pick 2. Here is my team (be nice lol): Not in order of chosen either, BTW Brad Richards Mike Ribeiro James Neal Ryan Johansen Phil Kessel Hagelin Malkin Crosby Ekblad Josi Letang Daley Matta Weber Fleury

Playoff pools are fun...but pretty much luck of the draw or solid guess work. The real talent is picking the right mix of players that will advance and grabbing the top scorers of teams that wont. I once won a playoff pool with no players in the cup final at all but had amassed enough points to still win. This year, I wanted the Pens because I figured I'd have a good shot at landing them. But I had had first pick, I would have held my nose and chosen Ovi. We use the snake method so the first guy took Ovi and by the time he picked again, all the best Caps were gone. I picked 5th, grabbed Crosby. It came back to me and I got Letang. It wasnt until a few rounds later some **** took a Pens player. Took Malkin middle of the pack too. Have a few Preds...so that was my sleeper pick. No one was taking them so I figured why not, grab their best scorers and hope they win a round or two.

How about if, say, the Hawks get eliminated in 4 but the Kings get eliminated in 6.
-
16 teams made the Playoffs, right? Leaving 14 non-playoff teams. If the playoff teams are ranked for the draft by order of elimination, then the first team eliminated would be 15... but then again, you could have several teams eliminated in 4 games so then how are they ranked?
-
Correct me if Im wrong but if CHicago is first team eliminated, it makes their pick the 15th overall in the draft (thus our second 1st round pick would be 15)?

Lots of fighting among Trek fans about this. Some feel its damage control since there was so much negativity that there was no mention of Star Trek at that recent con. Plus, the fact there has only been one trailer and it was widely panned, even by Simon Pegg who apologized for it. I wouldnt be surprised if Paramount shelves the film franchise for awhile after Star Trek Beyond. Their deal with Bad Robot ends after this one and there were conflicts between the two companies. They do have Pine and Quinto locked up for a 4th movie but not the other cast. There is way more positive buzz over the pending Trek series which isnt even allowed to market yet (they are forbidden by contracts to market until six months after the film comes out). And since the series is likely taking place in the Prime universe, it risks confusing the fans when it comes to the already-confusing film universe. No doubt Paramount has dropped the ball to a degree. STID was quite a mess and Paramount seems to know it. Even JJ Abrams admitted the script needed a lot of work, which was interesting because the writer was Bob Orci, a close friend/colleague of JJ's and Orci railed against fans who were critical of the movie. Orci was then fired as director and writer of STB and his former writing partner got the gig producing the new series and Bob is locked out. Star Trek is a franchise that so many of the people in power seem to have no clue what to do with. And thats a real shame.

http://www.therebel.media/excerpt_halifax_refugee_bullying_cover_up Interesting article. I know people will decry it because it's the *gasp* Rebel Media, but its very damning. And I dont mean in a sense of "damn those little Muslim punks", I mean damning of the federal government for not providing the neccesary resources to help the refugees properly transition. Kids will be kids. They will rebel and act out and hurt other kids when they are frustrated, angry, sad, depressed, hurt, scared. I cant imagine what its like for the children coming here, knowing little to no English, a new culture and being expected to just "fit in" and be apart of some wonderful Disney style happy ending. We know very well about ethnic youth gangs that are very, very violent. Happens right here in Winnipeg. No providing the resources required to help these familys and children is a recipe for disaster. And sweeping it under the carpet is irresponsible.

Oh regarding Game Day, a fan beat him up for not having an organ at MTSC and the fan even said "I know you'll say you dont have the room". Chipman said one of his staff (cant remember who but the game day producer or someone of that ilk) has been asking for an organ. Chipman said "room" isnt the issue and they could fit an organ in if they wanted to and its something they are considering. He also said True North sold the piece of property related to True North Square where the hotel is going and said "we have nothing to do with that development". Explained it as feeling they should let someone who's more experienced at hotel development do it. He didnt expand on that but given the importance of that and everything related to the Convention Centre I'd suspect there were agreements in place to ensure it's built and connected to TNS.

I heard it was a tremendous film for kids and adults. The gf wants to see it so maybe... Just read that BvS was originally four hours long. Good grief.

Star Wars: Spoiler Thread Discussion
The Unknown Poster replied to Logan007's topic in General Discussion
It sounds like Rogue One ends right as A New Hope begins so I dont imagine a sequel is in order unless it runs parallel to the events depicted in the original Trilogy. But they are planning a Kenobi film that takes place between Revenge and A New Hope. And by the time Episode 9 is out, they could also fill in the blanks between Return and TFA, though it would be difficult to depict characters such as Luke, Leia etc Recasting them for use as teens is one thing but recasting them because they need to look 30-40 would be tougher. I had heard a rumor that Leia might appear in Rogue One also, a recast ofcourse. But they'd have to find someone that looks almost identical to Carrie at that age if the film is supposed to be immediately prior to A New Hope. Then again, they DID cast Mon Mothma look alike very well. There is a lot of whining online about Disney's two Star Wars films featuring female leads... -
Palin and Nye both have bachelor degrees. So she could have said he was as educated as her. Though I'd suspect being an engineer for Boeing requires more smarts than Government of Alaska does.

He referred to the "investment" that was made in acquiring the team. So Id suspect the $200m. And the improvements to MTSC. He said the bulk of the $40m they spent was in the first season. It was always assumed Thomson put out the cash to buy the thrashers and that's probably true. I recall Chipman referring to Thomson having made it possible. But I assume his money was an investment into True North and converted into debt to be paid back over time. i loved the succession planning question because it's very interesting. Chipman's daughters are still young but you wonder if he hopes they take over the family business one day. Mark's assertion that they intend the company to be strong enough that the Jets will never ever leave was good to hear.

New Tallest Building In Winnipeg Announced
The Unknown Poster replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in General Discussion
I'm no expert but the smart people I read say smaller in full projects are actually better for downtown. But the skyscrapers are the ego boosts. Artis isn't sure the size of the new main St building. The foundation is 40 years old so they are studying how highly they can go. They said 30-50 stories. So they announced 40 feeling that was probably at least as tall as it will be but actually want it taller. But it should be the new tallest. And Skycity ahould be even taller assuming it happens. They have deposits on 150 condos so it looks good. -
If you vaguely know the story of Pochahontas then you remember avatar.

2016 Draft Standings

Maybe the jets should acquire the first round pick of the ten worst teams. Just to be sure. -
They also had Chipman on for 90 minutes. Fantastic interview. Said the canadian dollar has no impact at all. Said he doesn't make decisions on hockey ops. Chevy does. Chevy had said Chipman would have input into the next captain and Chipman said he shouldn't. Said he would always offer advice when asked but it's not his place Said Chevy has done a fantastic job and they will discuss an extension Said they spent less money this year simply because they were in the low end of team salary cycle and will spend significantly more this summer. Said chevy doesn't have an internal budget and that budget decisions aren't made on a daily basis, that the salary is what it is and will rise as their players' need new contracts. He did at one point sort of off handed remarked about being a cap team. He was talking about the success of the jets and how they reinvest profits back into the organization including on players. And they want to keep paying down debt and improving the company to ensure success and "being a cap team". he was asked about a succession plan which led to the above answer and added that they have a plan to make sure the jets never ever leave regardless of ownership. i tuned out for a moment but i think he said he would love to have Ladd back and told him that. He was asked about not letting fans have fun namely the Helmet Pardy and the tracksuit night. He said that was on him. He said he thought it was inappropriate to glorify what happened to Pardy. And he didn't seem to think they hampered fans on tracksuit night but Hustler said security was rough on people. Chipman did say the tracksuit incident was an unpleasant thing for them and didn't feel it was appropriate to make light of. He did challenge Gary's opinion that the team was flat due to the whole kane thing that game. He said he didn't think hockey needed fighting. He really struggled to answer and you could tell he didn't want to offend fans who like it. But it was clear he would be glad to see it eliminated. he said the owners don't know much about expansion and will have a chance to vote and he hasn't made a decision yet. Will consider the proposal before voting Said they will Honor the history of the jets both NHL and WHA in a major way that the fans will love. Said Thomson doesn't get to many games but always watches wherever he is and wears his jets shirt every day when he works out. Says Thomson loves hockey and loves the team and is engaged, they talk on a regular basis. Says they do not pay themselves (himself and david) a cut of profits which seemed to surorise Gary. Was a bit sheepish about admitting that they pour profits back into the company, didn't want to seem like he was patting himself on the back. Said they pay down debt. And invest in the arena and hockey ops. Said they have spent $40m on the building and it will be $60m by the time they are done all the upgrades in a few years. Said TNS will have a positive impact as it makes the company more profitable.

Avatar was beautiful to look at but pretty shallow. Don't need four more

I didnt mind it. It was suitably spooky. I think the book had a tragic ending...but the movie had a happy ending didnt it? Saw that Martin Sheen is producing and narrating a documentary entitled OJ Is Innocent. The gist being that his son actually committed the murders and heroic OJ went on trial to take the heat for his kid. Absurd. But the son story is the only theory that has even a remote chance at being true (even though it isnt).

Start the tank for 2017! -
- Charlie's Angels reboot coming with Elizabeth Banks directing - The Girl Who Played With Fire is back in development. Hopefully they bring back the cast from the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - Robert Downey Jr supposedly in the SpiderMan movie, though he's coy about it - The Marvel Fox guys (Deadpool, X-Men) tease that they are building bridges with Marvel in hopes of one day crossing over into the MCU.
