  1. A Luthor as President (or in the midst of a Presidential election) would have been good, if the actor was strong and, well, Presidential. It would have been timely too. A missed opportunity. Speaking of which, the voice of the President was Patrick Wilson (Watchmen) and Snyder hints he might show up in the future. I like him a lot. He would have played a great good guy opposite an evil charismatic politician Luthor.
  2. Yeah what is Lex's motivation? That he's crazy? That he wants to take over the world and believes Superman stands in his way? He's, what, 30? He's a "dot com" billionaire with government contracts obviously. What does he really want? Snyder did a lousy job showing us anyone's motivation really. Batman's was the most obvious but even then we werent made to believe it. As Alfred keeps arguing with him, the point is true - why do you want to fight this guy. The reasoning "if there is a 1% chance he's bad we have to assume it's a certainty" is the stupidest thing ever uttered. Everyone is at least a 1% chance of being bad. If they want to show a Batman driven to the brink of insanity, then show us that. But dont pretend this is a brilliant Bruce Wayne with a reasonable perspective.
  3. The only potential "out" is that Lex mentioned his father. If they bring his father back into it, perhaps thats the more traditional image of Luthor. But I can understand why they wanted to try something different, but it was just so bad. Cavill is an average actor. Affleck is decent. But Luthor...man, they should have cast a GREAT actor with serious heaviness to him. Someone who could carry the franchise as someone we believe is intellectually able to take on our heroes. I sense none of that from this Lex. That female assistant of his could have beat him up.
  4. Well his agent must think he will get more money to go to Free Agency. Although I guess there is a rookie cap anyway... Maybe he thinks there are other cities available where he'd want to play. It sucks though. Especially if the player wont even speak to his drafting team. Very unprofessional. But an agent gets a percentage. So he wants the most money, not necessarily the best deal.
  5. Im sure Thomas Jefferson had this mind. Ludicrous. If that is allowed then the US government is the most neutered government on earth.
  6. I dont have an issue with the idea of Flash coming through time. That's one of his powers and I think i recall reading they want to really make Flash a big deal. It just didnt serve this story. Maybe it serves the next one. But it didnt serve this one. Im all for world building and foreshadowing but there's a way to do it that doesnt confuse the audience or seem mis-placed.
  7. Yes, Lex's convoluted plan came to fruition in just the perfect way to serve the silly plot. Good thing!
  8. Snyder explaining the Flash scene: "This was kind of the opposite [of Breaking Bad] because we had the script and it wasn’t in the script. As we started then we worked on our script, I think we were in the middle of shooting and we started working on the outline for the next movie and where they go, and Zack [Snyder] said, ‘Oh my God let’s add this moment that is gonna pay off down the road, and we’ll find out more information.’” Read more at: https://tr.im/2FjFW Now it makes sense as to why the scene DIDN'T WORK! Ugh
  9. Very much so. Used to always be the way it was. Guys developed their gimmicks in the old territories and moved around, tweaking and perfecting them before making it "national". WWE got into the habit of thinking they could come up with a gimmick and just assign it to anyone. And it hardly ever works. Same thing with promos. Guys reading scripts sounds awful. Look at Jericho...he sounds different than everyone else because no one writes his promos.
  10. Didnt do much detecting did he?
  11. If they pull this off, Downtown is going to continue to evolve. Between this, TNS and Skycity, downtown will be unrecognizable in 5 years. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/40-storey-apartment-tower-planned-for-portage-and-main-373789981.html Winnipeg-based Artis REIT is said to be in the late stages of planning a towering rental residence at the windy corner, right next door to the nearly four-decades-old 360 Main, which is the city’s third-tallest office building. The $140-million project would not only include the construction of a 40-storey apartment tower, but the $35 million recladding of 360 Main, the 30-storey office tower formerly known as the Trizec Building, and owned by Artis, the real estate investment trust headed by CEO Armin Martens. An official announcement of the project is expected as early as next month, but word of the development’s planning has already reached the street. A call to Martens requesting comment on the project went unreturned Monday. Of course, plans for the soaring structure just south of 360 Main would include a penthouse floor, with panoramic views of The Forks, and beyond. Plus a sub-penthouse level. But at least 10 per cent of the units would be classified as "affordable," which could make the building attractive to at least some of the young Winnipeggers who are among the thousands of people who work at the corner that was named by the Canadian Institute of Planners as one of the Great Places of Canada.
  12. I imagine we will find out in JLA that Lex was possessed by Darseid who was using him to eliminate Superman so Earth was easier to take. But Snyder's over-arching failing was writing a film for the future rather than for the now. He clearly wanted to beat Captain America vs Iron Man and wanted to catch up DC to Marvel. And that was a mistake. If there is ever franchise fatigue with superhero films or Marvel specifically, the last thing DC should want is to be doing the same kind of films at the same time. They should have been more thoughtful and started off slower. By the time they get to JLA, a lot of Marvel fans might be missing the "simpler" times of bringing the heroes together. As it is, BvS will be compared to Captain America and I bet unfavorably so. JLA will be compared to Avengers and very likely unfavorably so.
  13. Would I feel safe at a political convention? With a ton of local, state and federal police and secret service? yes, I'd feel safe. I'd feel safer there than any regular gathering of a large group. Aside from the fact its a greater target for an attack, I'd feel pretty safe that should an attack happen, there would be plenty of people to defend me. Not hard to sneak weapons in anywhere. When I worked in bars, there were several shootings around town and Canad Inns installed metal detectors. I actually worked for Canad Inns when they got their first metal detector. My boss (later, not Canad) came to me and asked if I wanted him to install metal detectors. I said look, go ahead if you want but I'd rather have a really good video surveillence system. Both...but if I can only have one, give me the video. Not only a way better deterrent but also incredibly useful after the fact for everything from shootings to drunks. The issue is, when you walk into a bar and there is a 20 year old girl they hired because she has nice breasts, not because of her security background, and she's patting you down in a way that demonstrates she has little to no training, its not hard to get a weapon in, if you want it. Furthermore, most shootings dont happen inside bars. They happen at the entrance or outside. The whole pat down thing is really just a visual deterrent and also to make people feel more at ease. I dont disagree with it because I remember walking into IGF on opening night and two clowns in front of me were angry they were patted down and one guy produced a large knife and sarcastically said "oh you want this?" So in that regard, it weeds out the idiots. But it doesnt weed out the people that really want to get a weapon inside. If we still have incidents of people sneaking contraband onto airplanes past federally trained security, then the local watering hole isnt safe.
  14. The plan was pretty stupid. He hoped Batman would kill Superman. Why didnt he just do it himself if he had the means? And then the Doomsday plan... what was the end game there, to destroy the world? Didnt fit. They even have Lex sort of dismissively refer to how easy it was to manipulate Batman "send a few notes". They needed better writers to come up with a better plan than that. The single stupidest scene might have been the Doomsday birthing scene. Dump Zod in some goo that just happens to be sitting around the ship, add human blood and voila. Absolutely mindnumbingly idiotic.
  15. No kidding eh? Very lazy script. I thought the Wonder Woman "photo" thing was silly too. Maybe her film will explain why it was so important. I mean, some people think Nic Cage is a vampire because there is a photo from the 1800's of someone that looks just like him and a grainy pic of someone that looked like WW is a critical issue? Would have been better if she was searching for information on the other meta-humans. Would have been a more worthwhile "hunt" and actually played into the plot. The idea Bruce needs access to Lex's servers and just walks in and plugs in a little device to the server is so silly. Am I the only one that didnt like this Alfred? I thought the lack of father figure to that relationship was a downer.
  16. I agree with that 100%. Its the same at every level of wrestling too. One only need to watch local wrestling where the booker is a wrestler to see that guy or his buddies in top spots. Not always, but a lot of the time. Its human nature. Sometimes it can actually work the other way where a guy puts himself under out of an abundance of caution in not looking like he's booking himself strong. Flair did this a lot. He put everyone over, to his own detriment. Nash was perhaps the worst booker in the history of "top" wrestling. But the culture of WCW was not to be professional and work hard. And he epitomized that. Being booker can be a tough job. Steph's vision was to have 50 "bookers". And now no one is accountable and everyone is afraid to think outside the box, push new ideas or be critical of bad ones because if you have 50 writers, who's going to miss the one that gets fired for not toeing the line? WWE is hiring writers right now actually.
  17. Clearly all those other sports are awash in cheap shots, dirty hits and untalented goons who's sole job is to target star players. They *need* fighting to clean up their sports. A good bench clearing brawl in Water Polo would go a long way to cleaning it up.
  18. And that's not necessarily wrong. But the psychology of Hunter as a booker is to build people up. the psychology of Hunter as a worker is to cut everyone's balls off to his own benefit. Interestingly, last week they pushed HIAC as the "main event", this week they made a point of saying it's the World Championship.
  19. I guarantee that should a bunch of people carrying guns end up "protecting themselves", the aftermath will be a lot worse than if one lone nut went on a shooting spree. Too many of these gun nuts are just ignorant red necks with a chip on their shoulder who think they are heroes living the "cold dead hand" mantra.
  20. I assumed it was Flash. Another lousy film making decision. Im sure it was so clear to Snyder but not to the rest of us. My buddy, who is a fan but not checking things online like me, turned to me and asked WTF was going on and I said I think its the Flash. He still didnt understand... I actually assumed it was a red herring. We're to believe the message is about Superman but I thought it was about Lex. But I guess the bigger picture makes sense that it's Superman. Although, if Superman turns bad because he's possessed by Darkseid, then Superman isnt really "right" about him because it's not really Superman doing it. The lousy casting of Lex made the whole Darkseid stuff even worse because its like if a six year old child was possessed. Thats basically the dramatic gravitas of Jesse Eisenberg. Plus all the hinting was so confusing if you dont know. Im sure Snyder feels its clever "they dont know" but confusing your audience is not the same as mystifying them.
  21. The idea of the "Martha" but sounds a lot better on paper. As an aside to humanize Superman in batman's eyes, I get it. But to have that be the thing that completely changes Batman's opinion? Absolutely absurd. The foreseeing the future was ridiculous too. Its one thing for Bruce to have nightmares about what he thinks the world could look like if Superman were bad, but for that to be a premonition is moronic. Unless someone is planting the image. And then if so, why and who? And why is none of this explained? Snyder isnt as clever as he thinks he is, thats the problem. There was a straighter line to accomplish things and he took the scenic route. Lex was his biggest failing though. Every scene he's in falls apart. He has ZERO gravitas on screen with Batman or Superman. @Taynted_Fayth Good point about Wonder Woman being a better choice for understanding the visions of the future. It would have been better if she was the uniting force between Batman and Superman. Someone who is sort of human but also "Super", someone who could speak to Batman in human terms. Batman *should* be the recruiter but at Wonder Woman's behest. If she went to him at the end and said he must find the others and bring them together, it works better. Bruce says why me...and she explains because he's the most human (double meaning), ie. the one who can speak to the heart of each man in a way she and Superman can't. I dont know...just very disappointed. And when I hear WB come out and say the revenue proves that critics dont get it, its just head shaking time. I find it hard to believe a single WB exec could watch that film and think it was great, Transformers showed us that making money and being good can often be two different things.
  22. Rick Rude always held it right against his chin. Its probably just experience from two veterans cutting "even" promos to make it easier on the sound guy. Teaching someone to use a mic is a lost art sometimes...lol And one of my pet peeves at a show. Sometimes people hear their own voice and instinctively get quieter or pull the mic away. Other times, if they get feedback, they pull the mic far away which means the sound person has to increase the volume, meaning more feedback. Im not expert, just from doing it and I try to explain to people how to speak on a mic and some guys have it, and some guys dont. Not sure of any other reason they'd hold the mic in a specific way. Neither one would have nerves at all, especially last night.
  23. And dont get me wrong, if I was suddenly dropped into WWE as booker today, I'd have Hunter go over Roman at WM. What they really needed to do last night was have a face to face between Hunter & Shane. Shane was pretty strong last night. He looked really good (best shape of his life at 46), cut good promos. Vince's backstage promo was terrible. Have Hunter show up instead and hold up the WWE Championship and say this is the biggest stakes. Shane counters that as important as the title is, HIAC is the bigger stakes because when he wins, on Monday Hunter and Steph are out. Hunter retorts in a snarky way about Shane being the prodigal son yadda yadda but that when he retains the title, there will be nothing Shane can do about it... he who has the belt, has the power. To me, that would have linked the two matches a bit and put heat on both. Plus the money encounter is Shane/Hunter and it teases it. I guarantee no one was listening to Hunter ramble on after about 30 seconds.
  24. How does this happen nowadays
  25. It's almost hilarious how insecure they are to the most obvious detriment of the company. She buried every other match. Just a couple of weeks ago she was cowering at the thought of Shane in charge. Just awful. Roman is even less over now since this WM build began. If he was being boo'ed like crazy it would be one thing. But the crowd didn't care about him at all tonight. They might have even blown their chance to turn him. Jericho/Styles is interesting. Kevin Owens is always the best match. But they get second rate treatment so Hunter can have three segments. Insane. And Hunter is a terrible promo at the best of times.
