Find another Perreault. It could force some other moves too as the Jets will be a bit log jammed in the bottom six. And they don't like to carry anywhere near the maximum contracts. Although they will likely be forecasting Pavs and Stafford off the roster at the end of next season at the latest.

Do you watch Sportsnet because George was a cool VJ that talked politics to the kids? Or for expert and insightful and well delivered hockey news, opinion, commentary etc?

Does George appeal to the younger crowd? Where are they? Ratings way down. So if the choices are maintain your audience with Ron Maclean or lose your audience with George but he'll look better doing it, the choice is obvious. When I watch the news or sports I dont care what the announcer, host or panel looks like. I want knowledgeable people with insight and the ability to convey the message. Ron had that and a ton of respect and goodwill. its not like he looks like Shrek! There were going to be growing pains because TSN re-upped a bunch of people when Rogers won the contract, to keep them away. So TSN is still home to the "experts" to most Canadians. And TSN is still the go-to place for news and views. Sportsnet needs to increase its talent, for sure. But short of kidnapping TSN's people, it will take time and recruiting. But hopefully TSN regains the coverage in 10 years. Unless Sportsnet is awesome by then...

I really like Elliot Friedman. And Ron MacLean should be used in a far better way. He's better than George. I dont mind George but the roles should be reversed. George needed to build up some cred before taking the lead job.

Yup. Pressure off which can have a major impact. Scheif and Trouba playing for contracts. An angry Wheeler sick of losing. It all conspired to create a strong effort and good results.

Yeah...maybe franchise player is the wrong term. But bonafide top tier superstar? There have been examples of guys that were picked pretty late that became that (Buff, for example). And examples of guys picked early that took time to become that (Wheeler, for example).

Maybe not so much nothing to play for as not playing their best against the Jets.

We could even go back to MTSC. People said it would be a catalyst to downtown development and it really wasnt. But the return of the Jets to a degree was a catalyst and without MTSC, that wouldnt have happened. Not to mention, Medical Arts reno-rebuild for MLCC. Alt & Glasshouse (as you said). There is still that gaping hole next to 201 Portage. Plus the Forks Re-development to come. True North will continue to invest in Burton Cummings theatre and it wouldnt surprise me to see some action for improving that area as well. Earls on Main wants to build a new restaurant too. The key thing was always hitting a critical mass of people living and working downtown and these developments will do that. Then business will spring up to serve the residents. Should be a really fun 5+ years in downtown. EDIT: Sort of lost in the 300 main announcement is that they are re-cladding 360 Main. The recladding has already begun and will take a year. Its going to look completely different and very sharp. Artis doesnt own the Scotia Bank portion which is why its not included in the reclad. Hopefully whomever owns it (Scotia?) decides to refresh their portion of the building.

The CAC line. I like it. Any combination of Lowry, Burmi, Dano, Armia (with a sprinkling of Thorbs) makes a strong 4th line too that should get some playing time.

They were definitely ridiculed for a long time and generally deserved it. But they have over 150 units pre-sold so they should be good to go. They sold more units in a much faster timeline than anticipated and gained instant credibility. Im not sure the project will be amazing as they promise (huge grocer, luxury amenities, LED lighting that can be customizable on its roof, ie. they jet it could flash when the Jets score) but I *should* get done. If anything I hope some of these developers start comparing sizes, if you know what I mean. 300 Main should be tallest. Skycity should beat it though. Maybe increased competition for providing amenities. Or working together...for example, if 300 Main, Skycity and TNS both include grocery stores or markets, maybe they can compliment each other.

Maurice has thrown some cold water on the Jets play. He said he doesnt put much stock in these games because the other teams dont have a ton to play for. He said seeing players fighting and playing hard is great and its more about evaluating individuals to caring about the wins and losses. With Scheif nearing 30 goals at no better time for him going into a contract year, what are we looking at for him now? Have to assume Jets would love to lock him up for 7 or 8 years... Another interesting discussion on the Big Show this morning. I think it was the Sherrif that was asked who would be the 3rd line centre (At least I think that was the question) between Lowry and Copp. There was a long pause and he replied that he thinks they would compete for the 4C spot. And that Scheif playing the way he has sort of makes him the defacto 1C with Wheelers and Ehlers. I have no problem with media being "honest" even if its negative. Blake Wheeler once stopped speaking to Gary Lawless over something he wrote (I dont know if the cone of silence is still in place). And Gary is often negative. Doug Brown just rubs me the wrong way. I havent listened to him for a while because when I did I could barely last ten minutes. Just seems like a very egotistical guy. There is a difference between presenting topics for relevant discussion and presenting an aura of "If everyone would listen to me, they'd be so much more successful". But there are media (and people in life) who realise that they get more attention for negative than positive. And Doug seems to be one of those guys that craves the attention.
