DR. CFL reacted to Starman115 in 2019-20 CFL Offseason
That's an interesting take considering I did not take a position either way. Just simply pointing out some of the difficulties of the situation.

It's naive to think that the pandemic will be over in a couple of months and even more naive to think that the CFL can make any money with 5-10K fans in the stands (Ask Toronto how well it works).

So what exactly is the plan? Clearly they are a long way from one...especially given there is no working relationship between the CFL and the PA. Next question...for this hypothetical Sept 1st start. How long in advance do you think it would take to logistically set up? I’ll give you a hint...I have been told by CFL personnel that July 1st is a critical target. That doesn’t factor in border issue, provincial and city health regulations, the possible isolation for 14 days of players. And here is the million dollar question? What are the plans when ( not if ) when people start testing positive...if you ever get this organized? People seem to not want to look at this situation from an objective, practical prospective. I get it ....fans want football.

Pro teams can’t even get to organized Training Camps and guys are testing positive....how do they think this ever works. Then you have football with a 1 ya LOS...guys huffing and puffing....how sensible is that?

Tampa Bay Lighting had to close down their a Phase 2 start up due to multiple players and staff testing positive. The notion that pro sports are going to be able to operate is very suspect. Initiating any start up, and the expense associated with it only to have to shut it down maybe simply a waste of money at this point in time. This has to put up red flags.

DR. CFL reacted to Floyd in 2020 Thread
This reminds me of the lead up to last season where 'the league hadn't even talked to the players about a CBA' etc etc and then suddenly the deal was done
The league doesn't run everything by the players because they know the players have no bargaining power - its just reality.

The other issue with pay per view is would advertisers continue to buy time knowing that viewership would decline by those not willing to pay to watch games?

Tough to punish MLSE when they are the only thing keeping that boat afloat.

If they are planning to have any fans in attendance (socially distanced of course), I think the CFL is going to have to figure out some type of innovative, incentive based ticket sales structure. Maybe offering package tickets to fans where you could attend games for your own home team plus random games between the adopted team and another team. Then do revenue sharing. I might go see a Hamilton - Saskatchewan game if I got some type of discounted ticket with the purchase of a Bomber ticket.

Hockey Feed.com...is the absolute worst for throwing junk out there. I can’t imagine the NHL is worried about the NBA.

I just feel like we have bigger things to worry about than who’s gonna he calling the games if we actually have a season.

After graduating from Lethbridge College in 2003, Nielson called games for the McMurray Oil Barons (AJHL), Lethbridge Hurricanes (WHL) and Edmonton Wildcats (CJFL). He graduated to doing University of Alberta football and hockey games in 2010 and became the lead play-by-play voice for Canada West Showcase football games in recent years.
He’s had a ton of work and has worked at his trade, but nobody has ever said one man cannot do multiple sports PBP.
Think of Don Whitman.
But, on the other hand, multiple people cannot do PBP for any sport.

BIG HIT losing Cuthbert....I just don't see a replacement anywhere that will fill his shoes...TSN and the CFL are going to miss this guy...What a crappy year this is turning out to be

A hard BS to that. You’ve got to know your siht..to do any kind of PBP. Try it sometime while watching.

This is like the reporting on the Covid vaccine progress.....all very positive and encouraging but so much that still needs to be worked out. It feels like we are simply treading water waiting for the life raft.

Exactly. Finding the balance between price that will be profitable but see near capacity crowds will be tough, but it's what leagues are going to have to do.
Teams are slowly catching up with the reality of the time we live in though. We're even starting to see teams buck the tradition of gauging people at the concession stands.
I love attending live games and I'm sure the majority on a forum like this are with me on that. But there are a lot of factors that make attending games a hassle.
I can not drop an extra $100 to pay for tickets and parking to walk a mile to the stadium when I could be at home without $10 beers and a bathroom line as long as it takes me to walk over.
