I could care less about a Canadian QB and the incessant push for it...and why it even matters...there are elite Canadians all over the CFL who should get the promoting..and if not for NFL politics could play on an NFL roster over most teams back half roster..but never gonna happen
The CFL media and fans should focus on best possible players period for Canadians and not push this stupid QB thing...cause in all honesty for every Rourke..which is historically rare and always will be...there's dozens of Shittier than Boltus Canadian QB's...and couldn't hold his jock. He has raw skills...but at this point its all he has..and needs to develop it to see if he has any chance of being even moderately successful...doing the dance he is won't get that for him..and if he lands on a PR...even that won't...but on a roster here...getting some reps be it short yardage...special packages..whatever...gets you film..and eyes...look at Ford here...one game as a starter essentially got him a look...it wasn't his ST work as there are literally a 1000 Fords in the U.S with same or better skillset who can be teams guys...he showed something in his start and that alone was the bump he needed to get a shot...game film...Elgersma has none...and won't get any

I think the 'show me the money' quip should be laid at the feet of Elgersma's agent also...Sometimes I wonder if any of these guys have the true interest of their client at heart....money being the 'only' motivating factor for some of them....Obviously it looks like at the moment, things for the kid are drying up, and he should be casting his eye northward in earnest...IF his representative is just blowing smoke up his arse, I think Elgersma would be wise to seek out another agent...If our draft pic shows little or no interest in attending tc....looks like a bust ,and his football career will have come to an abrupt halt...Somehow I think he'll show up here when saner heads prevail

Got two tickets to Touchdown Kelowna on June 27th which is my birthday. A friend of mine is a Stamps STH & since he was going with his 2 young sons, he got two tickets for my wife & I. That should be a fun weekend. We haven't been to Kelowna since 2017 when my son was an Asst Coach with the Okanagan Sun. Be interesting to attend one of these CFL niche games. More power to Lions owner Amar Doman for trying to grow the game in BC. Unlike that trash ownership in Toronto who do virtually nothing for the Argos in Southern Ontario.

Listen I'm no fan of Corcoran. But he did everything asked of him last year. He caught basically everything that was catchable. He's not going to be a star WR, but he's more than adequate as a back up.

Something. Anything. For crissakes. These pandemic financial decisions should have ebbn gone 3 years ago. Sure, let's pay some random Canadian Guard $300000 a year who no one ever heard of. Yet, we can't offer Elgersma the money to make him want to sign here. The stupidity at the league level continues. Well done, Johnson & the Board of Dinosaurs.

Now this is creative. This and similar things approaches are needed for this league. The commish and his team should be leading the charge on CREATIVITY. (Sorry I had to shout that last word for the people way in the back).

I always overcomplicate solutions like this, but here is what I would do.
If a draft pick get an NFL camp invite or NFL combine invite, they are automatically qualified for "Super rookie" status. The salary range for them then goes up to say 90-120k. 2 years of CFL rights, with the NFL window still after year 1. Any player who makes an NFL PR or AR is treated like any veteran FA, but with exclusive rights held by the drafting team.

The only real issue with the rookie deals is the inflexibility with incentives.
This league has no money so they need to have some controls. Sask and Edmonton really broke everything when they were trying to be at the top of the heap. There’s 4 franchises who have never been able to break even on football operations in your lifetime. And another 2 who have only been able to tread water at best. So I’m not sure where people think money will be coming from to fund teams spending more on operations. It’s not going to come from player salaries.

It was a very curious decision to put that in place given we were just starting to see a vast talent drain after the NFL's PR expansion.

tookie deals should have a range ...a minimum salary and a max for yr one at say 150K can increase by 10k per yr for first deal

he was horrible in the blocking and run aspect of his role tho...also did nothing after the catch...and really scared nobody...If we going 3 Nats he cant be one of them...We'd be better off using MCI as a fulltime FB/TE type guy.....and actually I wish we do....He'd offer wayyyyyy more and would have to garner attention...Corcoran would garner as much as one of the posters here out there running routes...I bet there are some faster

They should meet in the middle somewhere, not every CFL rookie falls into that category so it you might not need to scrap or adjust the cap entirely - just allow a bit of wiggle room for these higher level guys. Maybe allow each team 1 rookie cap exception or something so we don't have those guys sitting out rather than playing.

Cobb is at least average for a backup WR. With some attributes. Its insane that they put Corcoran above cobb and on par or better than clercius.

The CFLPA basically said teams are signing these huge contracts for a guy who hasn't done anything only because he's a high canadian pick. While other stars aren't being compensated to the same degree even though they are legit stars for the league/team. And I can see their point. But...it's back fired now. Because whatever the cap is now is so low that for a guy that's on the edge of being on an NFL roster/pr, it just doesn't make financial sense to sign with the CFL until he's sure he's got no chance. And as we are seeing, that can take years.

I'm not against the guy, I just have not seen him offer much of anything when he is in the lineup. Would love to know what they see in him. Not saying there isn't something there it's just not obvious.
Sure. But if we are going 3 NAT receivers then he should not be front line depth. It is essential that we have a guy who can produce if that is our plan. Just a body is not good enough. No different that Jake Thomas the past few years, if we had kept him down to 8-10 snaps a game no one would be complaining but he got thrust into a starting role and became a glaring weak spot for us. Are you comfortable with Corcoran coming off the bench to be a potential starter if any of our 3 starting NATs go down. I'm not.

I don't blame Elgersma one bit. The insane NAT draftee 3 year entry level deal is a joke.

Elgersma will be here when he gets here. Not worried about that at all. He's got an agent blowing sunshine up his arse right now, so let's dial it back a bit about how he will never play here. Reality will set in, and he will come.
We can go 3 NAT receivers but there is no requirement to do so if we go 3 IMP OL. We can make ratio in other places or even use the naturalized IMP rule.
