To be fair to other clubs, fans in seats does not equal fans at the game. Winnipeg sold out against Edmonton, but there were lots of open seats in the upper decks. The concourses are packed, so lots of people attend but don’t sit. It is the same in Saskatchewan, where the open concourses and Pilsner Zone are full as well.

My seats are in the upper deck and I'm barely ever there now, mixing it up on the concourse is the greatest. The widened concourse at either endzone (North side especially) is just a fun spot to watch the game. Close to washrooms, close to drinks and food, no stairs, quick exits, jumbotron (and cannon) right over your shoulder... perfect hearing is overrated anyways, and sitting is for the ride home!

I think with Sask a lot of that is tickets sold via season ticket holders....but now way in hell that many went when from even before mid point of the season the upper decks there were 1/3 full...at best....and even worse the last several games....tickets were sold def...but many fans said eff this and just ate that cost

Agreed, and I have similar thoughts looking at HAM's #'s as well... a lot of expectation led to that bandwagon being at 94%. We have expectation here too, of course, but the Bombers are actually backing it up

Toronto with a season low of 11,555?  Definitely not butts in seats.  A couple games it looked like maybe 2000 people there.

Agreed here too. I know IGF looks deceptively bare to the field camera at times, but I can confidently say most of those people are in the concourse or at packed around the rum hut. Not sure we can give BMO the same benefit of the doubt when we see swathes of empty seats. 50% full at best, at any given time

  3. Re: attendance w/ 1 final week to go, ranked by average attendance/game:

    #1 WPG averaging 30,448 fans / game, 92.2% occupancy, 4 sellouts, low of 25,662

    #2 SSK averaging 27,648 fans / game, 82.9% occupancy, 1 sellout, low of 24,158

    #3 EDM averaging 24,774 fans / game, 44.5% occupancy**, 0 sellouts, low of 19,921

    #4 BC averaging 23,208 fans / game, 42.6% occupancy**, 0 sellouts, low of 20,106

#5 HAM averaging 22,877 fans / game, 94.14% occupancy rate*, 3 sellouts, low of 20,912

    #6 CGY averaging 22,074 fans / game, 61.9% occupancy, 0 sellouts, low of 17,942

#7 OTT averaging 18,921 fans / game, 76.74% occupancy rate, 0 sellouts, low of 18,004

#8 MTL averaging 17,828 fans / game, 89.03% occupancy rate, 2 sellouts, low of 15,088

#9 TOR averaging 14,310 fans / game, 56.74% occupancy rate, 1 sellout, low of 11,555

*HAM only has capacity of 24,300 to begin with, hence the highest occupancy rate league-wide

**EDM has a capacity of 55,614, BC has a capacity of 54,500, hence the very low occupancy rates even on good days

Frankly, I give props to the SSK and EDM fans for showing up at all considering how terribly their seasons went. It's a complete disgrace that 2 teams out of the playoffs ended up #2 and #3 in overall attendance while the top team in the league is dead last by a large margin. If SSK is a telethon team then what does that make the rest of the entire friggin' league? OTT worries me the most out of anyone... a nice new-ish stadium with dwindling attendance season over season and a **** team with no direction or glimmer of hope for the future... maybe we should do another expansion draft to make them competitive for a season or two again (not serious, obviously)

38 year old me would lose his **** now watching Rancid open! I looooove Out Comes the Wolves, it's hands down front to back my favorite punk album of all time

  5. I don't know that he's being targeted, and he's so damn elusive and shifty that given a little space they can target him all they want, they aren't getting a clean hit... It's those bang-bang catch-hit plays where a defender tees off on him immediately after the catch that are a little too frequent and adding up. He's an absolute warrior for hanging on so often and getting those yards we need when we need them. It's the cost of doing business, I don't know if he can protect himself better while still making the plays he does now.

  6. Hall has long been about keeping the play infront of the DBs and getting pressure with the DL. Mix in the occasional telegraphed LB or safety blitz. It has worked very well when our DL was consistently disrupting plays and forcing rushed passes. Now, with inconsistent pressure QBs have time to find receivers in the soft spots making it look like pitch and catch at times (far too often really).

I suspect sometimes that the telegraphed blitzes are an attempt to 'establish to pass rush' so to speak, so that when we show blitz but instead are dropping back into coverage the QB is much more likely to spot the blitz and bite, thinking a spot on the field is going to be open? I don't know. Maybe it's just about keeping it simple.

Time for some Colbert Questionnaire short snappers:

    Best sandwich?

             - Cajun chicken sandwich, or any sandwich made for me by someone else

    Scariest animal?

            - A rabid coyote

    Dogs or cats?

            - Cat by necessity, dog by preference (prefer mice less)

    Window or aisle?

           - Aisle

    Clear or sparkling?

           - Clear

    Apples or oranges?

            - Apples, better than a cup of coffee energy-wise

    Favorite action movie?

            - I love Kung-Fu movies. 36th Chamber of Shaolin probably tops the list... Ong-Bak and The Protector... love cheesy stuff like Mortal Kombat, Bloodsport (now and then for the nostalgic lols)... Kill Bill just turned 20!

    Favorite smell?

            - A park on a fall day, or a garden center in spring (I'm an avid gardener)

    Least favorite smell?

            - Rotting grass clippings 🤮

One song to listen to for the rest of your life - which one?

           - That's incredibly tough. Probably this Kyuss song, 'Space Cadet' but I'd hate to leave behind all my precious Opeth and their 15 minute metal epics

  8. Just a lifelong fan. I've been watching CFL football my whole life, all my family are fans, going back to my little Scottish granny screaming at the Bombers through the 8" tube TV in the corner of her kitchen. I didn't care much about it, until as a kid, probably 8 or 9 I got to meet Buzz one on one at a company Christmas party co-sponsored by the Bombers (my Mom worked closely with Kelly, the guy that wore the Buzz suit for many years, so she was able to arrange a visit) and that of all things was enough to spark interest at a young age.

I joined the Rods in grade 8 and played in one lone game before breaking my arm and missing the entire season. I would have gone back in grade 9 but discovered a sport more suited to my tall slim frame (fencing), and that was the end of football for me.

I'm far from an expert in any aspect of the game. If only my thousand Super Bowl victories in Madden translated to real world practical football experience, I'd be a hall of fame coach by now!

I've read virtually every post ever made in the MBB football forum since MBB's inception, and a whole lot of OB before that... I'M ALWAYS HERE... this is where 95% of my football discussion takes place as my friends and coworkers today are casual fans at best (need better friends and coworkers I know)

Re: Kolo. While not a huge fan, a huge part of his position is making calls. Since OL are never micd up, we don’t know how poorly (or well) Kolo is doing at that aspect of his game.

One could speculate at a reach, that the sometimes erratic play of Collaros could correlate..

Definitely. I have to imagine reading a defense and calling the right protection is easy to test for and review in the film room, so the coaches (I hope) have an idea of what is happening on any given play. Admittedly I too speculate at a reach because I don't know either way, but maybe that has to do with what's keeping Eli as a backup and not a starter, obviously only the guys inside the locker room know for sure.

If we do get our backups some reps down the stretch I really want Eli at C to be one of them. Hard to judge guys in only a handful of starts but if he can blow the roof off, or nevermind that, even just stabilize things, then he should win the spot and there's one storyline put to bed for good. The all around better player should play, of course, and he needs a chance to prove he is the better player.
