If they sign Mason for two years, I dont even care about the money.  And if he turns out to be the worst goalie of all time, what has been lost?  Money, thats it.  It isnt my money so I dont care.  It doesnt hamstring the Jets in anyway because they have lots of money and cap space.  The term is far more important.  If it was a long term deal, then the money becomes a bigger factor.
Whether we sign him or not, the quality of the player can be debated.  But Mason will have multiple offers.  its nice to know the Jets are actually making the effort. if they sign him and he sucks, its not like the Jets are dumb because they will have been the one team of many trying to make the same deal.  They have to try to improve.
Preds showed that just making the playoffs means anything can happen.
And if the Jets are a "budget" team (they arent really), making the playoffs becomes more important because its a cash cow and pure profit to the team.

I try to spend time reading both Fox and CNN. I think regardless of where you stand if your goal is to be informed and not just entertained then I think you're doing yourself a disservice by only reading what you agree with. And as someone who reads both, I find their respective leanings very clear and think they both have their fair share of contributors who sit on the far ends of the spectrum.
It sounds like you're implying that consideration for you we treat each other is a liberal value, which is unfair. As a liberal, I would say that the far left is doing just as much hijacking as the far right and that those closer to the middle on both sides value how we treat each other.

Sorry, I'm not following. I agree with you that the far right seems to be "taking more and more ground from the conservatives". The point I was trying to make is that you seem to be letting the far left off the hook. The far right is "nuts" and "bigoted" whereas the far left is simply something you "can't relate to". I think that the far left is just as destructive and increasingly pervasive as the far right - we only just have to look to our universities in Canada and the US to see evidence of this -  and as a social liberal I find this very sad to watch.

Indeed. I thought maybe the first post was a lapse in judgement and that there'd be some back-tracking after Jacquie responded. Did not expect to see doubling down on the ignorance.

I suppose if you think disabled people have it so easy, you could trade.  I bet they'd be okay with that too.

Yes I'm talking about EIA. EIA is also for people with disabilities who need financial help - not just single parents or able bodied people with no source of income.
Please tell me where all of this money you think the government hands out comes from. I would really like to know because my daughter isn't getting any it. BTW, huge tax breaks mean diddly squat to a disabled person on EIA since the Province claws back the entire amount of any income tax refund.
I do think you are being quite overly optimistic to think you would have anything left over for leisure when you have to pay for everything else you need out of that $300.

A person collecting Provincial EIA is allowed to make a certain amount per month from a job. Anything over that amount is deducted from their EIA payment. And for a lot of people, the extra money from a job is not disposable income. Do you think you could find a safe, maintained place to live, buy groceries and pay for any necessities on $1,000 a month?

That has to be the most offensive thing I have read here ever.
Do you have any idea what a person with a disability receives from the government? For a single person, Provincial benefits are under $1,000 per month plus some additional coverage for meds, medical equipment, etc. while Federal CPP Disability is under $800 per month with no additional benefits. Disabled people make up a disproportionate percentage of those living in poverty.

Somewhat off topic... the act of tipping should be abolished.    In Europe it's an insult to tip at a restaurant.
Why should someone who simply walks back and forth carrying food should get extra money,  all while the person doing similar physical activities in retail gets nothing?     Also when I worked at McD's as a kid ... I busted my butt and worked way harder then the waiters at a sit down place which is way more laid back.   It's such a silly cultural thing that should stop.

I have no problem with the all encompassing threads. However, I also like separate threads if the news is big or major rather than burying it in a thread with 300 or more posts. That's my take.

You know, as much as I've really made a conscious decision to try and be more respectful to a few posters here who I've certainly been overly critical ... this one just doesn't sit well with me.
    1) I have already said in this thread that I really have no preference and I'm fine with going the route of least resistance.
    2) There literally could not be less true words that the ones that suggest this site has evolved to a state of "what Mike wants is what happens." I'm probably the least active staff member on this entire forum and I've been debating a decision to remove myself from the staff here because of that very reason. Rich and I should not be held in equal regard as far as "titles" on this forum go. Rich is the owner and I'm very much just holding onto a title I don't deserve at this point.
    3) If you go back and look at past offseasons, I've usually been the one creating the majority share of the individual signing threads. It's foolish and just plain wrong to suggest I'm not a proponent of them considering the method you're suggesting I don't like is the exact method I've used in past offseasons until we tried to give this cumulative thread a shot this offseason.
    4) We don't stifle "thread originators" or whatever babble you were referring to. You feel this way because your threads are occasionally stifled because you love to hear yourself talk and have so much self importance that you think every thought that enters your head is worth a brand new thread. Most of us have tuned them out by now.

So yeah. There's my opinion on that I suppose. For everyone else: let's try to continue the general thread then maybe open it up to discussion to see what everyone prefers once we get to TC?

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but the intent is to have an area for our more casual readers to be able to catch up. If all the information is in a single thread, it's easy for them to find it.

    Just asking some questions...
What exactly is this "Jewish Witchcraft"....that some of those posters were obsessed with, particularly in regards to Trump's family?
What possible credentials or previous actions, would qualify Donald Trump as some sort of spokesperson or defender of working class values?
What makes anyone, at this point, think or believe that the ole "trickle down" economic strategies would ever work - except for the rich?
Are the Trump appointments, especially his cabinet, and his self promoting of himself and family, really an example of "draining the swamp"
What qualifications does Steve Bannon actually have, for any sort of higher post in government?   (this one brought heavy, heavy  incoming)

Irony is.....that most of these people who call everybody else "snowflakes" are probably the most sensitive and insecure people I have ever encountered online.

Yeah, my failure to exhaustively restate the crimes of the Kim family in my two-line evaluation of their regime on a football message board betrays my deep sympathies for the Juche principal and my admiration of Kim Il-Sung's original, brilliant and revolutionary contribution to national and international thought.
    You got me, champ.
Anyway, bombing people into freedom has a super shitty track record over the last fifty years.  Didn't work in Vietnam. Didn't work in Laos.  Didn't work in Cambodia. Didn't work in Guatemala or Nicaragua. Isn't working in Afghanistan, or Iraq, or especially Syria.
What's that old saw about doing the same thing over and over and hoping it'll work out differently?

I disagree with most of what you say in this thread... but I agree with you on this one... Spicer's comment was incredibly ignorant and tone deaf... but those people jumping to "holocaust denier" is a ridiculous reach...

You quoted a response that said he should resign for denying the Holocaust and then called a defence of him not being a Holocaust-denier silly, so I think it's reasonable to think that you thought he was denying the Holocaust.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's a  pretty massive gaffe (any implications that I was minimizing his choice of words was unintentional), I just don't think it's helpful - in fact it's counterproductive and unneccesary - to go to such extremes when criticizing him.
