  1. I think that the anti-Harper crew have to play any card they have in the deck. In 2011 all I heard was that Harper was a Nazi who was going to make abortion and gay marriage illegal and stack the Supreme Court with right wing judges. Well none of that happened. They can't really say their guy is going to do a better job of managing the economy (well they can try, but no one is going to believe it) so all they have left is the fear card. According to the polls not too many are buying this. This new security bill is a bit of a head-scratcher. I don't now why Harper is doing this right now, but I guess I have nothing to hide so I don't really care. People went way too far demonizing Harper in his early days. It's happening again with Trudeau, only with different talking points. People are scared of what's new in politics. A few things I dislike about Harper: - the new security bill seems unconstitutional and overreaching for what a government should be able to keep secret - very little debate has been allowed in the house - He wanted to abolish the senate, but has since appointed more of them than any other pm in history - has very little use for the collectively bargained agreements with the Public servants that the government signed - the Supreme Court has had to slap him down several times, then had a little fit after his choice for judge was disallowed - lowering the GST and income splitting are bad ideas imo. - his views on pot - mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent crimes - wearing a Canada jersey instead of a Jets jersey
  2. The thought of Justin Trudeau representing Canada on the world stage, and being the guy who has to stare down people like Putin. Yikes. Talk about a boy among men. Oh I agree! he is also a rich guy who seems to completely lack any understanding what it's like to be poor or have to work for your middle class income. He'd be a laughing stock on the national stage. I meant what terrifies the poster about Harper. he's pretty even keel. Its one thing to play the scary Harper card in 2004, but 2015? Trudeau's already on the national stage, and rather than embarrassing himself, he's running neck and neck in the polls with Great Leader.
  3. More importantly he's no Jonathan Toews. Switch the D corps for Chicago & Pittsburgh and Crosby is a multiple Stanley Cup champion. He's got 28 more playoff points in three less games. Chicago's forwards are better around him too, but the D is where the biggest difference is.
  4. I feel pretty confident saying Newman will not see any time mlb this season. He's only 210. That was more of a crazy Etch thing imo.
  5. Many of the conservatives who hated the fear mongering about Harper are doing a pretty good job of it themselves with the NDP now.
  6. I don't really have any ideas for who might be cut other than what's already been said. Maybe Dile if he gets hurt early and Daniels & Mims both look good. A surprise player pick for me is Bastien. I think he might take the 2nd Canadian receiver starting job.
  7. Well you will never change your mind and I will never change your mind so it's rather moot. But i'd vote for Harper 100 times if I could. Absent the boogyman stories, his government has been good for the country. Even when they do things I dont agree with, such as lowering the GST, it was what he promised to do so he did it. If I told you I was going to kick you in the nuts, then did it, would you appreciate my honesty? Silly comparison. if you announced you were going to kick me in the nuts if enough people voted for it...and they did...and you kicked me in the nuts, I might not appreciate it but the people that voted for you to do so likely would. I have an idea now for a thread poll...

When compared to a guy who tells you he is absolutely not going to kick you in the nuts but then does it anyways? Yeah I would appreciate the heads up, I think. If somebody told me they absolutely weren't going to kick me in the nuts, I'd be suspicious of why he thought it was necessary to say that.

  10. 95% of the criticism he gets, I don't understand at all. He gets the most attention from the media, so it comes with the territory. People criticized Gretzky & Lemieux as well for being floaters, whiners, etc. It will happen with McDavid too.
  11. 42 points in 15 playoff games for McDavid. Holy crap is he good.
  12. *disclaimer: I have the right to change my opinion after training camp East: Hamilton: I don't think it will be close Ottawa: I thought they had a respectable D last year that was just completely abandoned by their O. That should be fixed, or at least improved, this season Montreal: I think that team's that relied on their D last season will be in trouble with the new rules. Toronto: This will be the beginning of the Trevor Harris era in TO. West: Calgary: Not as good as last season, but still finish first Edmonton: Will be interesting to see how their D does with the new rules. I think they have more talent on D that Montreal, so they should be less affected by the rules Winnipeg: Improved OL and running game will make us an above .500 team and in the playoffs Sask: OL took some hits. Not sure what kind of running game they'll have, and they're relying on a lot of injury prone Canadians to stay healthy BC: need Lulay to stay healthy or they're hooped. He probably won't stay healthy...
  13. Other than Mayweather's retirement fight, I can't think of any fight that will draw mainstream attention for boxing again.
  14. Mayweather's group were the ones dragging their feet on this. Manny had a lot more power back then than he does now. The reason for that power was under suspicion, which I think had a lot to do with Mayweather not really wanting to fight him. He hasn't knocked anybody out in years, which has only fueled speculation that he used to be juicing. Mayweather also had more speed back then, so I think things would have more or less stayed the same, except the chance of Manny landing a monster shot would have been greater.
  15. No, Walters said this year's cap number isn't affected. He got $150k of his $250k salary upfront. That's the only difference. Which is awesome... Just to add context, this came from Walters himself on H&L tonight. Which I also found out from sweep the leg. So there you go. 250k cap hit this year. Thank you for giving me credit... http://www.tsn.ca/radio/winnipeg-1290/hustler-and-lawless-may-1-2015-1.272504 He talks about this starting at 24:32. edit: this is actually from the press conference, but he explains how the $150k works.

  17. Anybody watching/paying attention? I'm more interested in this than I am in NHL playoffs now that the Jets and Pens are out. Canada is pretty stacked.
  18. I thought it died years ago. It's not surprising they got shut down.
  19. Disagree. The last thing we want to see is Willy leave for another team and we're back to searching for a qb.
  20. I'm not a big fan of the "True North" chant, especially cheering for ourselves after we do it, but at least it makes some sense at a Jets game. IMO if you're yelling it anywhere else you look/sound like an idiot. The Rider fans comparison isn't that far off. Asking every player/coach who comes to Winnipeg how awesome we are really reeks of a need for constant reassurance. All we need is a Commissioner's award for being "the best fans ever".
  21. I think it's pretty safe to say that the Oilers would be the defending Stanley Cup champions this season if not for the villainous Dallas Eakins.
  22. My section calls it the "Enstrom groan". It's the sound you hear from the crowd every time he fakes a shot and passes to a guy in a worse position.
  23. Is that a guess, or is there info out there somewhere that supports this? I don't agree or disagree, I just wonder if it's accurate. There have always been small defensemen. It's not a new phenomena in today's NHL.
  24. When have you ever heard somebody complain that a dman is too steady?
  25. I guess that day in rehab didn't help him sort his issues out. I don't really like him, but I hope he gets his crap together. He's the best fighter I've ever seen and it would be a shame to see all of that talent wasted.
