  1. I saw Hail Caesar last night. Everyone rates Coen Bros. movies differently1 so take this with a grain of salt, but I thought Hail Caesar wasn't very good at all. It's got some really pretty setpieces in it that will get the critics and the film nerds going, but they add up to nothing storywise, as we can see on Rotten Tomatoes. It's kind of like a happier version of No Country For Old Men ... but instead of being about a candle snuffed out by the cold horror of the universe, it's about how awesome it was to work in Hollywood during the golden age of film. 1my Coen top four: Big Lebowski and Raising Arizona for the comedies, Miller's Crossing and Inside Llewyn Davis for the drama. Fargo is wonderful but a bit overrated and A Serious Man is slight but really really good otherwise. It's been awhile since I've seen The Hudsucker Proxy, but that's fantastic as well, great old school screwball comedy.
  2. Gump 66 is a CFL hero. Here's another 80s gem they've uploaded -- the 1984 home game vs. BC. This is one of the first Bomber games I remember watching as a kid. You want to see the terrifying Bomber linebackers of the Cal Murphy era in action? T. Jones, Brown, Fowler, and Frank Robinson were running bulls in this game. BC QB Roy DeWalt, who owned us for most of his career, had zero answers. BC had -2 yards on offense after the first half. And Willard Reaves had a fantastic game, hitting the century mark in the first half. I had forgotten what a load he was. Guy was the complete package: speed, power, and moves.
  3. The same guy has uploaded the '84 Western Semi. Same teams, different outcomes. Man, the Bombers OL in this game was bananas. Clements had time to play solitaire back there.
  4. Trevor Kennard had a far worse year in 1982 than Lirim H. had last year.
  5. Keep talking, Duck Dynasty dude. Tell the 55% of Americans who support gay marriage exactly how you feel. The dominionist wing of American politics, which Cruz represents, is a bunch of super creepy christo-fascists straight out of The Handmaid's Tale. I am not a big Hillary Clinton fan, she's a weathervane politician and her vote for the 2003 Iraq War is something I just can't get past, but if the choice is between her and Cruz you can be sure I will be sending money and support to HRC.
  6. The Dead Puck era started just after Bettman came on board. Think the guy is fantastic for ownership and I definitely respect his accomplishments in growing the NHL as a business, but as a steward of the game, I'm not big on him.
  7. I think a lot of that depends on free agency. Lotta DL out there. Doubt he'd be traded, he'd probably just be released if we sign his replacement.
  8. The Dale Hackbart story is choice. Don't just read the teaser, the best stuff is in the article itself.
  9. Let the other teams spend money on the guys you don't want. Then when free agency rolls around there's less money out there to be spent on the guys you do want.
  10. Will always be a fan of Bagg. So many injuries, so many rehabs, still playing at a high level. That's some grit.
  11. Trevor Kennerd came back from a worse season. He was just barely a 50% kicker in 1982 and lost the Western Final that year on a missed field goal. Became an 80% kicker in 1983 and was with the Bombers until the Westwood era began.
  12. Super curious to see what Picard brings to the Als next year. Is he another Sorenson / Greaves who couldn't play for us but is a starter elsewhere?
  13. Dressler and Smith feels like the same situation as Burris and Willy in 2014. We needed a QB desperately enough that we threw coin at whoever was available at the moment, and good on us for doing it. I'd be over the moon to get either of them, they would both be serious upgrades for our team. Both of them would have led the Bombers last year in receiving, and both had to play with Bomber-level quarterbacking for long stretches of last season.
  14. Holy cow, Carolina is doing such a great job keeping Newton clean. When he drops back it's like he's got a forcefield around him.
  15. https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2194&dat=19860903&id=W7wyAAAAIBAJ&sjid=ZO8FAAAAIBAJ&pg=1289,824823&hl=en
  16. Oh man I would love to see Dressler in blue and gold, and he'd be way more than just a great target for our QBs. I bet Denmark would put up career numbers with a guy like Dressler drawing the heat.
  17. Zorn and Clements were never on the active roster at the same time. Zorn was signed mid-1986 as Clements' injury replacement. Tom Muecke was the #3 man, I think.
  18. Lemmy and Bowie. And this **** always comes in threes, who's next? The amazing thing about Bowie's death is that I'm not seeing any haters yapping online. Seems like everyone loved Bowie. His passing made news even on the metal websites I frequent, and all the metalheads were as bummed out as everyone else.
  19. Was definitely impressed with the work of the vikings D, our run game was absolutely stuffed all day. Not sure what was wrong with Russell Wilson, his arm was way off. He underthrew everything long an overthrew a bunch of short passes ... though one of those overthrows did turn into a fantastic magnet catch by Baldwin. Maybe the cold got to him? Gotta play better next week for sure.
  20. The youtube of the Ace Ventura laces out scene is blowing up today.
  21. If I remade the prequels, they'd be like a buddy cop movie gone horribly wrong. Imagine Lethal Weapon, but at the end, Murtaugh shoots Riggs. I'd also make Count Dooku more sympathetic, let him see the future that the Jedi are blind to, and make him desperate to break up the Republic before it goes fascist. And Grievous would be a abolitionist fighting for full droid citizenship.
  22. Kylo Ren is like any number of Heisman winning QBs. He looks great in practice, when he's interrogating helpless captives or cutting down old men. But when he faces pro-level talent, he folds up, and he clearly can't play through pain. Supreme Leader even says that Ren needs a little coaching up at one point. And yeah, I agree with TUP: Poe is a little too eager to talk about the Skywalker map mission. I just took that as "the movie's moving pretty fast, let's repeat our premise two or three extra times to make sure that everyone's still with us."
  23. Looks great, you guys. Thanks for making this such a great site!
