I honestly don't know what their qualifications are, but I also doubt the situation they were hired in mirrors Buchko's.  In your original post, you asked why the hatred for Buchko, and I tried to answer that.  A lot of it stems from his hiring being right after the long term deal with CJOB.  Following that with his incorrect declaration of the stadium being ready on time.

He started off on a bad foot and he has yet to put a good one down.  It is Buchko's missteps and errors (or at least those made under his watch) that make people question his qualifications.  Have any of the other people you mentioned gotten the same "negative" publicity?  Made the same mistakes?   I don't the follow the other teams as closely, so I can't answer that question completely.

Do I think all the criticism directed his way is valid?  No.

Do I think some of it is?  Definitely.

If Mack is not the guy, he should have been fired in the off season.   Is anyone shocked that we have the record we do with little to no changes from last season?  I'm not.  I was hoping for the best, but I didn't really expect all that much.  Mack promised to fix the QB problem, yet Buck was still the starter at the beginning of the season.

If someone reporting to me isn't fixing or doing something they promised me they would, then I'm after them until it gets done.  Now I don't what discussions happened between the two of them in the off season, and maybe this firing now is the result of that.

I'm not advocating firing Buchko at this point.  I think he needs to be given time to hire his own guy and put his own operating structure in place, but in my mind, he has certainly used some of his strikes already.

The bottom line is that there is something inherently wrong with the Bombers management structure and the way they do things.  From Lyle Bauer underfunding Taman in the early/mid 2000's to hiring Mike Kelly and going to Joe Mack and Buchko's missteps, the delayed stadium to the opening day logistical nightmare , this organization has been mired in futility for going on a decade now, and they really don't seem to have a clue as to what they are doing.  Especially when you compare the way they are run to the way True North runs the Jets.

Is this Buchko?  Is this the environment he has been given to work in and stems from the board?   I don't know, time will tell.   Maybe Nasty Nate has been right all these years and the Bomber board has to go.

And you wonder why we can't build a winner??? here it is right here. The way this team is run. Mickey Mouse. I'm all for firing Mack but not like this.

In the clutch, nobody can hit a wide open defender for a pick six like Glenn.  He's money.

The leak is yet another example of why this organization cannot get its ish together .. too many competing agendas that preclude the team from projecting a single, unified message.

I'm sure coming up with a comprehensive offensive gameplan is a little different from knowing whether or not a QB has good mechanics. Burke doesn't literally know nothing about an offense, rather he leaves it in the hands of people who (presumably) know more.

If we lose to Hamilton the season is not over.  Heck, if we lose to Hamilton twice and Saskatchewan twice the season is not over.  That's just the nature of the CFL.

Right now the Bombers are 2 points from being tied for second place and 4 points out of first place.

What else do you expect the coach to say?

Keep in mind the Bombers were tied with the Lions in the fourth quarter, who are a damn good team playing at home.

All Burke is doing is rallying the troops.  Let's not over react.

And what precisely is blasting a QB with exactly two career starts under his belt going to do aside from destroy his confidence?  We already saw Goltz's nerves come up during the game .. let's put more pressure on the guy to perform.  In all honesty, Burke was quite candid (with both the pros and cons) and very even keeled in his assessment of the game.  He's also right in that a few more plays on the offensive side of the ball .. this could have been a much different game than it was.

There are going to be growing pains .. and ANYONE who thought Goltz would come in and shoot the lights out was sadly mistaken .. guys have to learn to win .. learn how to play through adversity .. learn to play together.  For Goltz, it's learning to battle (and keep things level) when things aren't going his way .. a guy has to be allowed to make mistakes .. so that he can develop.

I thought the game turned on that horseshit call against Anderson with his tackle of Lulay.  My inlaws were all howling at his tackle, and I said "what did you want him to do - give Lulay a hug and ask him about his feelings?"  Good grief that was a terrible call.  We stop BC there and they don't get their first TD.  Lulay wouldn't have gotten in a rhythm.  Terrible freaking call.

This has been my biggest beef with Mack.  While I fundamentally agree that drafting and developing players in your system .. within your organization .. is key to long term success .. it does nothing to address immediate need.  We were a team that lacked quality non-import depth .. we needed bridge players .. guys who could come in for a few seasons while we replenished draft picks and allow those picks to go through a few camps .. it's pricey in the short term but it's a balanced approach to building a team that's competitive now and in the future.

It's apathy .. and I know it's setting in for a lot of people .. it's really hard to rally around the team when there's constant futility (at least on one side of the ball) .. it's also why something like Swaggerville blew up like it did .. it was exciting .. the guys were making plays and winning us games .. people WANT something to get behind but for the most part people simply expect a "meh" performance.

Hell, we only won a few of those games because the defense put points on the board .. It's not all Pierce and his magical ability to finish a game.

What Buck should have done was keep his feelings to himself with the media, play the good soldier as he is still being paid by the Bombers as an employee & say he'll do whatever he can to help them win. Then, in private... storm into Burke's office demanding an explanation. And if the answer isn't what he liked... retire. Or get in line, do the job asked of him & forever be quiet. Like I said, this team has more than proven their loyalty to Buck. Other teams (like BC) would have sent him packing a year ago.

It was a off the board from Montreal to hire Hawkins in the first place. If anything they have stopped the bleeding.

see for me it's not about how many a guy catches, it's how many he drops. Catches are the expected result when the ball comes to you, you put them on the ground that's a big negative strike. We see receivers all over the league get rocked and hang on, if you can't do than you're not doing your job. The occasional drop is something you can live with, but when you put multiple balls on the turf you failed at your #1 job.

To me Anderson had a very very average game at best. Nothing that a different receivers couldn't have done so in that case why are we using him?
