  1. If you want to win, you play the best player you can at every position. Lirim is a better punter. It is rare a punter gets hurt on blocked punt. So rare it is not worth putting in an inferior kicker and taking away the extra roster flexibility.
  2. So if he goes ahead and says what you want ... "This next game is critical and not just another game" ... and then he loses, then what do you want him to say? He won't paint himself into a corner like that. I want my coaches to be in the business of winning football games not entertainment and not pandering to the media. It doesn't really matter what he says or does, the media here have proven they will fill their columns with drivel either way.
  3. If that was the case Liram would have won the punting duties out of TC Not necessarily. Lirim was a rookie and sometimes if you give kickers too much to do both areas suffer. At the TC practise I was at, I thought Lirim out kicked Renaud. I think they wanted to ease Lirim in, letting him get comfortable and good at kicking while keeping some vet experience in the kicking game. When Renaud got hurt, Lirim was given the opportunity to take over both jobs. If Renaud was the better punter, he would be back by now.
  4. Haven't seen the official stats between the two, but just watching them punt, I do believe Lirim has the stronger leg and het gets much better hang time on his punts.
  5. I think they've been waiting to see if another team's punter goes down this season to trade (and also to backup for the Bombers in case of injury). If no biters, my bet is he is let go in the off season.
  6. Well, last week was a tough one, I know I went 1 - 3. Jesse W. James and saskbluefan tied for the lead with 36 wins, Cam P and kelownabomberfan right behind in 2nd with 35 wins. Things are very tight going down the stretch. See the current leaderboard here: http://morningbigblue.com/community/index.php?app=pickems&do=leaderboard&pid=5&wid=60 Be sure to get your picks in for this week before game time tonight: http://morningbigblue.com/community/index.php?app=pickems&do=games&pid=5&wid=61
  7. It is definitely possible. And if they do, then the Jets will struggle mightily this year. They've both worked themselves into pretty prominent roles in the lineup. I'm hoping Maurice's influence on the team last year and during the off season offset any chance at the dreaded sophomore slump. I would be more worried about the fact that Maurice is pretty much the definition of an average at best coach and that the better performance last year was simply new coach syndrome. His record is definitely nothing to write home about, just above .500, has missed the playoffs more then he has made them. Just like the attitude he has brought in compared to what the Jets have had with Noel. You can see the difference in the press conferences and the way he runs camp. The experience he has coaching though is what I think this team needs compared to Noel. No doubt the Jets are still very tough to make the playoffs this year, and id I were a betting man, I would bet against it. However, hoping that with the younger talent he has here, he can replicate some of his earlier successes in Carolina.

  9. I don't think Petan and Morrisey make it. Kane-Scheif-Wheeler Buff-Little-Ladd Lowry-Perrault-Frolik Galiardi-Slater-Thorburn Enstrom - Bogosian Stuart - Trouba Clitsome / Pardy / Ellerby / Postma Problem with those bottom 4 is only Postma shoots right. But they will likely try to keep those 8 for depth.
  10. Threads don't get closed for football discussion. They get closed when people move away from that and start throwing insults back and forth.
  11. Most jr. teams operate on shoestring budgets so having those star players to market around certainly is something worthwhile. To be perfectly honest I think the biggest change isn't with kids being more ready for the NHL at younger ages than they used to be so much as young players are cheaper options in a cap world than a veteran. Used to be that you never even thought of bringing young players up unless they were truly exceptional talents but now with veterans being more expensive younger players are an option to save cap space. It is also a balancing act for those younger players. you don't want to bring them up too early. If you are paying for their development in the NHL, and they aren't getting regular minutes or are not regularly in your lineup then you are waisting those cheap years. It really depends on where a team is in their development cycle.
  12. The argument is for the time, scouting, and development that the junior teams invest into these players. Not saying its right. It should really be what is best for the players. But I can understand why the junior teams, after investing in them, want the payoff of what they bring to their teams in terms of success, marketing, attendance, ticket sales etc.
  13. After giving Thorburn the contract they just did, you have to figure he is pencilled into the 4th line as well. Not a fan of the length of that contract.
  14. Willy was throwing but not practicing. Brohm was taking first team reps and at this point look like he will be starting this weekend.
  15. Seriously, people need to grow up. This site really needs to get back to football discussion. Leave the pissing matches at the door. Thread closed
  16. A penalty on Sears is more "palatable" because he is a defensive player and when you are tackling. They shouldn't be taking them but sometimes things happen. You can be going for a tackle and hit high or hit late, but it is a "continuation" of your job. The penalties that Romby takes are selfish and retaliatory. The only penalties a receiver should ever be getting is offsides and possibly a hold on a run. The unnecessary roughness penalties on a receiver are a pure selfish penalty.
  17. Apparently Pinball was at the BC game last night. Someone in the stands asked him if they could see his Grey Cup Ring. So he tossed them the ring, something he apparently does all the time when people ask. But this time, the lady ran off with the ring when she got it. They are searching video footage to see if they can identify her. Crazy.... http://www.thestar.com/sports/argos/2014/09/20/pinball_clemons_grey_cup_ring_stolen_at_bc_place.html
  18. I was the same way until the Jets came back. Now I watch all the Jets games.
  19. The owners will turn on him if sponsors start pulling out. It is always about the money.
  20. Has anyone been following the developments of this story today? Goodell holds a press conference today saying all of the changes the NFL will make to correct the errors that were done in the Rice fiasco. Shortly after that ESPN releases a story claiming that Goodell, the NFL, and the Ravens have been lying since the beginning. That they had seen the video and worked hard to cover up the whole event. It is a long read, but very interesting. Titled Rice Case: Purposeful Misdirection by team, scant Investigation by NFL http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/11551518/how-ray-rice-scandal-unfolded-baltimore-ravens-roger-goodell-nfl Apparently during his press conference, players were also tweeting out how they didn't believe Goodell, and didn't like what he was saying and ESPN was broadcasting the tweets during the press conference. Be very interesting to see what happens to Goodell in the coming days. Not sure he can really continue in his position.
  21. Saw this article on TSN: http://www.tsn.ca/story/?id=462146 I'm definitely not a lawyer, but as I understand it, these players would have to prove negligence on the CFL's part to have knowingly allowed them to keep playing when it would do further damage to them. Or perhaps negligence that they didn't get the needed care. Pretty hard to do for players in the 70s, 80s, and maybe 90s before the medical science was really there. It will also be interesting to see how the Canadian legal system would deal with something like this as opposed to the NFL lawsuits in the American legal system. I wouldn't think the punitive damages in Canada would be as high as in the States, but if they are forced to pay for medical care, it could be a blow to the CFL. Interesting that the league has tried to shrug this off to each of the teams. Could any single team survive if they are dealt a huge loss in a lawsuit, especially a team like Toronto? Either way, it is sad to see what happens to these players as they age.
  22. Have the game on in the background and Atlanta is up 56 - 0 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Don't ever remember seeing such a lopsided game in the NFL. Backup QB is already in for Atlanta and they still seem to be scoring at will.
  23. CFL games start this week on Friday @ 9PM as Toronto takes on BC. Get your picks in for the week by then! http://morningbigblue.com/community/index.php?app=pickems&do=games&pid=5&wid=60 There is still a log jam at the top of the standings, with Jesse W. James and saskbluefan tied for 1st with 35 picks and Cam P and Kelownabluefan tied for 2nd with 34 wins. MOBomberfan is right behind them with 33 wins. Checkout the Leaderboard here: http://morningbigblue.com/community/index.php?app=pickems&do=leaderboard&pid=5&wid=59
  24. I think it has more to do with National TV rights. TSN only owns the local broadcast rights. Sportsnet now owns the National rights, so TSN can only broadcast them in the "local" region.
  25. No idea, but Rider fans who come onto Bomber forums acting like clowns shouldn't go throwing stones at Bomber fans who post on the Rider home forum. We all read what you have to say over at Riderfans about the Bombers. Don't come looking for sympathy and crying crocodile tears over here if a Bomber fan makes you look bad on your home forum. You come here all trying to give the impression that you're a nice guy but everything you say to Bomber fans and about the Bombers on your home forum is real douchebaggery. Own it. Perhaps what we write on our home forum isn't meant for your eyes. That is a pretty ridiculous statement for someone posting on another teams website. If you really believed that, you wouldn't be here because this wouldn't be meant for your eyes. This is true. I don't talk much about what happens here over there though whereas you guys do That's a little more what I mean. Welcome to the internets. Anything you do on it can and will be used against you. You are rarely as anonymous as you think.
