  1. I could absolutely see Barriere getting a PR spot to develop with another team in the CFL. For one reason or another, he was not a fit in Buck's system. He looked like a high schooler out there at times in the preseason game and his interceptions and sacks taken all seemed to be due to a total lack of ability to process what CFL defenses are doing.

The highlights were always him making plays off script and not going through reads like a pocket passer. Barriere's playmaking may translate to the CFL game but he did not look like an electric athlete ala Tre Ford and so clearly the Bombers thought the learning curve was too steep.

I could see BC bringing him in to learn from Vernon Adams since he's a former EWU QB. Or Calgary to reuinte with Baldwin like @Fatty Liver suggested. Maybe even Toronto

  2. Backup QBs are exempt from the National/American count. So having a third string Canadian or Global QB does nothing to help the American depth at another position.

The only place a team would benefit from a National QB would be as a starter ala Nathan Rourke

  3. I have rewatched the game on CFL+ and focused hard on the young DL guys...

Haba: looks like he's entrenched as the starter based on his reps with Willie and reports he's had a great TC

Garbutt: Big step forward. Looks leaner than he did in his one start last year. Was pushing the pile back ala Jeffcoat. Needs to stay off the ground, fell down 3 times by my count which is far too many.

D'Abreu: Sleeper! Creates a push and has the size, athleticism and power to be a factor. Would love to see that guy in the rotation or on the practice roster.

Rivers: A bit slower and thicker than the other guys. Had the splash play sack. Need to see more from him. Think he is a little bit behind the other 3 American DEs.

Fox: Good get off and creates some push. Can get swallowed up inside in the run game. Looks like he's going to be the starter based on rep count

Evans: Third CFL preseason and probably his last if I had to guess. Athletic but not very strong-handed to shed blocks. Looks like just a guy.

Woods: Good athleticism and runs hard to the ball! He will probably be the next practice roster candidate who is groomed to take over when Fox inevitably has a good year and gets paid by another team. That just seems to happen every year nowadays at our DT spots. Maybe Woods goes the way of Caleb Thomas last year and gets cut for the next Miles Fox who is cut by another team but I think he showed some things.

Lawson: Stud. Should be the starter.

Schmekel: Was rag-dolling the SSK second group. Great push. Loved seeing him let the long hair down. I think he could be a fan favorite at some point.

Kornelson: Has some athleticism but think he's just a guy. Decent local kid!

Samson: Hardly played. Wonder if he's going back to school next year? They seem to be doing that a fair bit lately with the USports draft picks

  4. Don't see much talk on here about how well Tanner Schmekel played

Saw an overwhelming amount of people hating on him throughout this offseason and all the ones who were doing so consistently or begging for him to be cut have been extremely quiet about his performance

He was debatably the most impactful DL I saw while watching the game, American or Canadian -- Garbutt and Chauncey Rivers (who outside of getting home for a coverage sack I didn't think actually played all that well) included.

  5. Chris Smith and Aron Cruickshank are my guesses based on their resumes as the top guys for the return job. Hoping one of them pops today.

Also very excited to see the young defensive line guys and which linebackers make plays.

Last few years the linebacker crop hasn't stood out in my opinion but the guys this year are more exciting to me. Tre Thomas is my sleeper pick to stick around.

  6. Just now, Fatty Liver said:

Maybe the DB Brad Muhammad replaced when the Stamps reacquired him?

My theory is that now that Titus Wall is back from injury and they added Rodney Randle + Demerio, kept Tre Roberson etc that Griffin was the odd man out there. He might have seen the writing on the wall and asked for his release even

  7. Haven't been using this forum for long, but find it remarkable how hard-headed and negative a few of the folks on here are......

Having an opinion and voicing it on a forum like this is exactly what it's for but some of what I see on here crosses the line from supporting the team to arrogance and name-calling. It's really really weird to me.

Shouldn't the discussion on here be about which new young rookies are stepping up from the ones on here that have come to practices to watch so far? This is supposed to be a time for excitement not dumping on Redha Kramdi (who seems to be a decent player coming into his own).

Don't want to ruffle any feathers in here but golly where's the positivity in what should be a hopeful time of the year!!!!!!!

  8. I think one thing to keep in mind with first cuts around the league is a lot of them are simply due to injuries

I remember last year Tyrique McGhee was cut after rookie minicamp and here he is on the roster a year later competing for a starting spot.

I'm willing to bet Anthony Bennett is just injured and the same for some other big names cut like Terry Godwin and Jalon Edwards-Cooper. Good chance all those guys are brought back once they heal up

  9. For all the discussion about drafting a RB/FB hybrid, if we think of Mike Ike in the core special teams linebacker role (with an elite athletic profile for that and film to back that up) then it could be good value that he could fill that special teams role while also playing 10 snaps a game on offense

Walters said Klercius is also going to be a special teams guy and bring a physical presence to the offense

Those two + adding a big hog like Gabe Wallace and suddenly the Bombers invested big time in fortifying the physicality of an already really physically imposing offense while simultaneously boosting the special teams cover units
