On the downside we are gonna be starting 9 Canadians I bet.

10 if Shayne starts while Biggie is hurt (probably happens, they never trust rookie Americans to start Week 1)

3 OL, 2 WR, Brady, Thomas (will start no matter what Oshea for some reason has the biggest hard on for him), Redha, Ford, Gauthier

I would expect Brian Cole will play more than Gauthier but Gauthier will start until Bighill is back

We throw that minuscule amount of money away all the times. There’s value to it.

I don't think that's true at all. Every decision is very calculated by the Bombers, including not releasing cuts, depth charts or injury reports until as late as possible to not give any advantage to other teams around the league.

If Chris Smith was a serious injury he probably would've been 6-gamed. But also maybe not because then he'd have veteran status in the league. Being on the one game gives players an accrued game. Teams value trying to keep players on rookie status so they don't have to be on the hook in case of injury.

Not putting Chris Smith on 1-game if the injury isn't serious and bringing him back when he's healthy feels like a no-brainer. Probably a 1-3 week injury and they said let's bite the bullet.

Glad, relieved even that Adams made the AR.  Gemmel the only surviving LB and he just made the practice roster.  All the great linebacker prospects Petrishen, Moses and Tre Thomas cut.  What a god damned shame.  Upshaw and Chris Smith too. Sigh.

Ayers made active, Gemmel PS. Shocked Tre Thomas didn't stick around.

Never saw it with Petrishen the way others did on here. Thought he looked the part but didn't play the part.

Assume they would've kept Moses but he got hurt early in the game

They kept Ontaria Wilson too I guess so maybe Mitchell is the returner and Wilson is the receiver?

If they have Mitchell as the returner, Chris Smith injury probably isn't severe and they will get through first few weeks and then bring Chris back

  5. Upon further review (with a terribly close camera angle that the CFL should be furious about) I think Marquise Bridges played very well at HB.

Devin Adams, Miles Fox and Jamal Woods are all very good players and I hope the team figures out a way to keep them all.

Owen Hubert for a rookie late round Canadian feels like someone who could be stashed on PR. For all the talk about Mason Bennett on here, I don't actually think he's very good and neither does Hamilton clearly. Hubert might satiate the desire for a future rotational Canadian DE in a way that Suckthany Bennett couldn't.

Terrell Bonds and Ty Ford were my favorite CBs. Demetries Ford and Bill Hackett are both good too but I think they're both 5-7 which might be too small to stick around

  6. I personally am ecstatic to see this preseason game be a real evaluation opportunity for the team offensively and defensively.

People on here complain about the young guys not getting a fair shot to prove themselves and now that the Bombers clearly are giving young guys ample opportunity, there are different complaints from the same people.

It should be exciting to see how the two young QBs do... who steps up at WR... which defenders make plays... heck even who stands out on special teams. We all know Osh is a ST guy and values that and it's likely that some players are kept solely due to their ST ability.

Guy was named a divisional all-star as a rookie, but we relegated him to a practice roster job by the end of the season instead of letting him work through some growing pains as a rookie

This is incorrect, he was accidentally named an all-star when the CFL had that all-star ballot gaffe

  8. I could absolutely see Barriere getting a PR spot to develop with another team in the CFL. For one reason or another, he was not a fit in Buck's system. He looked like a high schooler out there at times in the preseason game and his interceptions and sacks taken all seemed to be due to a total lack of ability to process what CFL defenses are doing.

The highlights were always him making plays off script and not going through reads like a pocket passer. Barriere's playmaking may translate to the CFL game but he did not look like an electric athlete ala Tre Ford and so clearly the Bombers thought the learning curve was too steep.

I could see BC bringing him in to learn from Vernon Adams since he's a former EWU QB. Or Calgary to reuinte with Baldwin like @Fatty Liver suggested. Maybe even Toronto

  9. Backup QBs are exempt from the National/American count. So having a third string Canadian or Global QB does nothing to help the American depth at another position.

The only place a team would benefit from a National QB would be as a starter ala Nathan Rourke

  10. I have rewatched the game on CFL+ and focused hard on the young DL guys...

Haba: looks like he's entrenched as the starter based on his reps with Willie and reports he's had a great TC

Garbutt: Big step forward. Looks leaner than he did in his one start last year. Was pushing the pile back ala Jeffcoat. Needs to stay off the ground, fell down 3 times by my count which is far too many.

D'Abreu: Sleeper! Creates a push and has the size, athleticism and power to be a factor. Would love to see that guy in the rotation or on the practice roster.

Rivers: A bit slower and thicker than the other guys. Had the splash play sack. Need to see more from him. Think he is a little bit behind the other 3 American DEs.

Fox: Good get off and creates some push. Can get swallowed up inside in the run game. Looks like he's going to be the starter based on rep count

Evans: Third CFL preseason and probably his last if I had to guess. Athletic but not very strong-handed to shed blocks. Looks like just a guy.

Woods: Good athleticism and runs hard to the ball! He will probably be the next practice roster candidate who is groomed to take over when Fox inevitably has a good year and gets paid by another team. That just seems to happen every year nowadays at our DT spots. Maybe Woods goes the way of Caleb Thomas last year and gets cut for the next Miles Fox who is cut by another team but I think he showed some things.

Lawson: Stud. Should be the starter.

Schmekel: Was rag-dolling the SSK second group. Great push. Loved seeing him let the long hair down. I think he could be a fan favorite at some point.

Kornelson: Has some athleticism but think he's just a guy. Decent local kid!

Samson: Hardly played. Wonder if he's going back to school next year? They seem to be doing that a fair bit lately with the USports draft picks

  11. Don't see much talk on here about how well Tanner Schmekel played

Saw an overwhelming amount of people hating on him throughout this offseason and all the ones who were doing so consistently or begging for him to be cut have been extremely quiet about his performance

He was debatably the most impactful DL I saw while watching the game, American or Canadian -- Garbutt and Chauncey Rivers (who outside of getting home for a coverage sack I didn't think actually played all that well) included.

  12. Chris Smith and Aron Cruickshank are my guesses based on their resumes as the top guys for the return job. Hoping one of them pops today.

Also very excited to see the young defensive line guys and which linebackers make plays.

Last few years the linebacker crop hasn't stood out in my opinion but the guys this year are more exciting to me. Tre Thomas is my sleeper pick to stick around.

Maybe the DB Brad Muhammad replaced when the Stamps reacquired him?

My theory is that now that Titus Wall is back from injury and they added Rodney Randle + Demerio, kept Tre Roberson etc that Griffin was the odd man out there. He might have seen the writing on the wall and asked for his release even
