Oh, I would guess that the dog would be about on par with Osh in these areas.
Seriously, most successful head coaches have demonstrated that they are capable of coordinating an offence or defence successfully in a prior gig. A good number of them continue to multitask, coordinating a major area while serving as head coach at the same time.
Osh has nothing like this on his resume, ergo he is incapable of providing direction in these critical areas or at critical points of a game when direction is needed.  And - no - coordinating the special teams for Toronto for a few years is not on par.
His lack of experience in these areas might go someway to explaining the lost look that inevitably appears on his face and as well as his tendency to go mute when the bombers are getting their asses kicked or falling apart ((you know, at the exact time of the game when other more accomplished head coaches actually kick into action and get active with teaching or redirecting or re-energizing their troops).
Yep, the more I think about it the more i agree that the lab and Osh are pretty similar… Both fiercely loyal, neither too flashy, and both simply not sharp enough to be in charge of a successful football franchise.

Y'know, the first 3 quarters of the last Mtl game, Strev beat them with his arm. Not like he CAN'T do it. That's what's so frustrating. He's shown he can win as a passer. What changed?

Right now we are doomed with Streveler as a starter. Defenses have taken away his running ability & left himto beat them with his arm which he can't do. Not all his fault as LaPo is his OC but Streveler has shortcomings throwing the ball. At 24,  he may never overcome his deficiencies with his fundamentals. But... that is on him to correct them if he can. There are well known & successful private qb coaches out there that cater to upper echelon NCAA as well as CFL & NFL qbs that could help him. He has to want to do that & be motivated to change things. It's not easy tearing things down & starting over to break bad habits. Long process but it can be done.

Big Chris showed us a whole lot of nothing.  He isn't starter material & may never be. We may lose out the rest of the season with him in there. But the Bombers are to blame for that. The guy can only do so much when we have  a useless OC calling the plays.

Yup, noticed that as well. Was going to say something then realized that if the Bombers are going to play like this, we deserve it. There are consequences to losing. This is one of them. Had we won, Ripper would have stayed under the bridge.

The riders adjusted, lapo did not. Its his job to adjust and have wrinkles as well to counter the riders adjustments. Just like he should have in place to counter when teams crash down on the screen passes and short passes. And when play gap elimination against our run game.
The answer was to roll out more, stretch the field laterally and that exposes the gap in the contain defense the riders were playing. Also running off tackle, counter trap, shovel pass, etc.
The riders crashed down hard on the stand still screen passes (which suck any way) and ran them as if we had woli in blocking when we didnt. When a team is crashing down that hard, you can run pump and go on a fake screen for an easy big play. Some thing we havent done with plop at all to the best of my memory.
Its his job to have wrinkles and counters to the other teams strategy, and to use the pieces he has to the best of their ability. He didnt do either or come close to it.

Another year, another of the same threads. Was Hall ever fired btw? Threads like this are just yelling into a hurricane.

I think we have to give him a chance with a different coach. Lapo is a QB killer. So is O'Shea.

To win at poker you can't just stand pat unless it's hopeless and you chose to fold. If you have a good hand and want a better one, you toss your worst cards in hopes of getting better ones. It might work, it might not. But it's your only chance of winning it all, which is supposed to be the goal, not standing pat hoping everyone gets a worse hand than yours.

I was wondering the same thing. My Head Coach has to do better than signing off on a “LaPolice Offence” simply because “he’s a good Coach”. Look at the game plan for goodness sakes. It looks to me like Saskatchewan sent it over. The ‘keep Streveler’ in the pocket theme’ was executed perfectly. In other words “stifle the two-pronged running game we had” that was so successful.
My suggestion would have been to keep running it until it was stopped..with a few misdirections thrown in.
Oh, and throw to receivers who are moving, you know like other teams do..with success.
But really, what’s the point now? LaPolice won’t change unless a Head Coach shows up.

To say that mathematics and probability will determine the ultimate goal of a championship here is at best....not even a stretch. If you believe that how many more years of this patience plan are you willing to endure? Part of the reason for Calgary’s level of stability is predicated on success....not hope and probability.

The interesting part about many workplace situations is that, given a basic level of competence, being liked...being personable and easy to get along with... will actually get you farther than being exceptionally talented and rubbing people the wrong way. Familiarity would also play into this after a while regardless of production.
All the managing partners in this organization being chummy...and MOS's penchant for being loyal to guys he seems to like/that fit in...may just be proof of this concept.

Let's keep LaPo & Hall too while we're at it I mean, who are they gonna get? Besides, it's all about rewarding your friends even if they don't do the job they are hired to do. And don't say Tommy Condell who will be Head Coach somewhere else because we kept O'Shea.

I’m reserving any judgment on our QB situation until they get rid of the O.C. He is making a mockery of how to run an offence.
Everybody talks how stubborn O’Shea is, but barely mention that LaPo thinks everything he does is right, and the way to a successful outcome is to stick with his game plans, even though it’s painfully obvious that what he plans does not work.
Trying to turn Streveler into what LaPo wants in a QB as opposed to using his assets, is beyond asinine. Play into his strong points and let the opposition try and stop him. Instead we see exactly what opposing teams want...Streveler in the pocket.
Turn him loose, let him have fun again.
How frustrating it must be for the players on offence to know what they can do, as opposed to what they are being told to do, and knowing full well..it’s not working.
We don’t use our weapons...that’s what sad.

So the slow drip of Rider arrogance in my personal and work life begins. Texts, hangouts from work google, sigh. Even when I have become numb to what the Bombers to do me as a fan, I still have to get it from these yokels. 4 championships in 100 years and these ass clowns think they're the , what, Steelers? Cowboys?
I don't know what to think of all this, in the morning after. I tend to think that this season is basically done with because Streveler is on par with Jennings right now. It's beyond words to say what this season has done to me as a fan. I was so hopeful about the season I planned a road trip to Winnipeg for the Banjo Bowl, we started 5-0, and honestly I think like a lot of you, I thought this was finally the year. Hell, the Grey Cup was even in Calgary. So to say I'm crushed right now, is an understatement and I can probably assume a lot of you reading this are feeling the same way.
With a nights rest and a clear head I start to think about next season. I honestly don't know what to do. One of the rebukes of regime change is "who would take over". Saskatchewan is doing just fine with a new head coach, so is Montreal. BC not so much, but even then I would wonder if we played again what would happen. BC looks great lately and may catch Edmonton for a cross over. Maybe. I don't know who's available, and I wish I knew who the next Huff was so I could tell the Bomber brass. I'm at my wits end with this club. I think the easiest thing for a lot of us would be just totally erase expectations and be passionless towards the results. I don't know how to be that kind of fan. When the Bombers win I feel great joy, and when they lose, especially against our rivals, it feels bad. Isn't that what sports is supposed to be?
I wonder about that with our guys. Miller, MOS, Walters. Do they feel the sting that we do when the Bombers lose? Or do they shrug it off and go to a fancy little Osborne Village restaurant and toast their "success" as management and to the stability of their positions? I think what we need right now is management who hates to lose, not just love to win. I want someone running this team that when we lose the LDC the way we did this year to go into the locker room and kick over the garbage can. Call out the players for letting it happen and let them know it's unacceptable. Right now it seems like we're coddling our players like misbehaving toddlers. They take a **** in their pants when company is over and instead of spanking them or sending them to bed without supper, we hold them and tell them their special. That their bowel movement is special.
It's only October 6th, the team is a lock for a playoff spot, yet we know it's next year season. It's like a zombie movie where someone you love has been bitten and they're still a person for a little while longer. How sad, and what a waste.

Both of these guys were cut by other teams. Arbuckle was cut by the Lions.
Adams cut and traded several times. Probably at the end of his career. and yet with the right coach, turns out he's a good QB. As is Arbuckle. Again with good coaching.
That's why we blame our coaches.
using about one roll out in a game, with an inexperienced,  mobile quarterback, is not good coaching. Having a young mobile quarterback try to be mainly a pocket passer, is not good coaching.

I do not believe that O'Shea warrants another year, let alone 3. He chose his assistants and damned few have shone. What evidence is there that the next ones he would choose would be any better? Why have the systemic problems in the offence and defence been allowed to continue? Early on in O'Shea's regime, it became obvious that he was slow to change and rigidly, blindly loyal/stubborn, and it was speculated that this would be his downfall. And so it has been. His judgement has been repeatedly shown to be poor. And to those who are saying that if O'Shea gets canned, we are are going to go back to the dark ages of Reinbold, Burke, Daly et al, Walters has shown himself to be able to build a good organization and he ought to be able to find a good replacement for O'Shea. Status quo is not good enough- we are no closer to the Cup than we were three years ago. I think the talent is there, save perhaps at the QB position, but at this point the team has to have lost confidence in their coaches.

I was underwhelmed when we hired Lapo, for the 3rd time, and nothing he has done has made me change my mind. However, if Streveler can find a way to make Lapo's playbook work by pushing the limits, we may yet have something we can hang our hats on. So much of Lapo's playbook relies on Harris, and rightfully so as he is a beast, but he is also a great decoy and a decoy that can block. If we can get the running thing going and mix in some vertical attack with Adams, Petermann, Bailey, etc. then we can light it up. Streveler needs to take Lapo's playbook and make it his playbook.

Nope, Nichols didn't play the Riders this season.
Nichols' played the soft part of the schedule and his wins came against the worst teams in the league -- BC, Ottawa, Edmonton, and Toronto. Streveler likely cashes in those wins too. Nichols also beat Bo-less Calgary throwing for 0 TDs and running for 2 yards so he doesn't get much credit there. As soon as Nichols played a good team like Hamilton he was throwing picks and looked awful.

A few days ago you said there is no way O'Shea would ever leave. What caused you to change your mind?
The Trinity IS the organization. They certainly haven't needed anyone's permission to fix things and we're going on 6 years.
Miller has a job, he can't do Walters' job for him. Walters has a job, he can't do O'Shea's job for him. O'Shea has a job, he can't do Lapo's and Hall's jobs for them. To win a championship each of these people have to be working at a championship level. It's hard to believe that that's happening. It all starts with Wade Miller and I haven't seen him anywhere near a Grey Cup since he took over.
