I don’t think Nichols is twice the qb MBT is. I actually MBT is the most underrated qb in the league. But my comment was meant as more of a jab at you. Just having some fun.

Well yeah, I got that. LOL! I'm all for having some fun so good for you, I like it!

There is something of a tradition on this site that if you make a statement, ie. post something as fact (Nichols is twice the QB that MBT is), you had best be able to back it up because you will likely be challenged on it.

No I don’t. But I’ve never seen someone whine as much about Nichols as you, so figured I’d check in to see if you are ok

I'm great, thanks, and the Nichols whining has been performed by lots of others long before now. I haven't really said much about him at all. My post wasn't whining about Nichols. It was a playful jab at the person that made the silly statement that Nichols was twice the QB MBT is. You didn't get that?

    Completion % - Nichols, 71.3     - MBT, 68

    Efficiency - Nichols, 107.2     MBT, 99.3

    Interception % - Nichols, 2.1     MBT, 2.6

Remarkably close and consider that Nichols played on the best team in the league and MBT played on arguably the worst. It could also be argued that Nichols only played in 9 games due to injury and mostly against the weaker teams whereas MBT played 16 games and faced all the tougher teams in the league, including us and Matt Nichols, against whom he won!

I'm both an Argo fan and a fan of MBT. I believe he is going to end up as the No. 1 QB for Argos, despite being guaranteed about $133k less than Nichols (if reports are accurate). If I'm right, and with O'Connor developing nicely, 2020 might be Nichols' only year in Toronto. But I'm happy to have him for now as it's clear you need two viable QBs in this league. Argos had just one the past two years, and it wasn't the guy they handed the job to four times along the way (Franklin).

But, but, Nichols is twice the QB MBT is!

Most of you want McGuire as the backup. Hoping he's at least as good as Streveler was last year after a few starts under his belt, not like most of the rest of the backup QB's we brought into the league between Brock in the mid 70's and Streveler a couple of years back.

He is a big boy with a live arm. He is not a mini Mac Truck like Streveler was. He reminds me of a Mike Reilly or a Don Jonas type although I know most of you never saw Jonas play.

What I don't know is if he is a good field general. I'm sure we'll find out.

Nichols' contract length is irrelevant as he can be released any time up to Labour Day, and neither he nor MBT are the long-term answer for the Double Blue. Its gonna be interesting to see who emerges as the starter and I expect that there will be a lot of tag-teaming behind center this year.

MBT is not going to be happy being Nichol's short-yardage QB. Nichols has CFL experience, and little else, on MBT.

Nichols doesn't have Andrew Harris and/or our O-line any more. He can't run the ball himself, isn't fast enough or nimble enough to evade pressure, and doesn't have the arm to put the ball into tight spots consistently.

Pinball isn't going to be happy paying Nichol's 350K/yr for 3 years to throw the ball away and/or turtle.

He knew it was coming.  It was reported that he would not re-sign with Toronto unless he was given assurances that he would have a fair shot to win the qb1 position.  Whatever Pinball told him was enough because they got him to sign a new deal.

Sure he did but I don't think he thought Pinball would give Nichols a 3 year deal. I think Pinball told him he (MBT) is the Argos starter.

  7. Man, what is Toronto thinking? To our incredible good luck Barker relieved us of Drew Willy after we had inflicted PTSD on the poor man him during his time here. How did that work out for the Argos? Then to our incredible good fortune again Toronto helped us end our 29 year Grey Cup drought by giving us Zach Collaros just in time for our playoff run. Many thanks, Toronto. Now The Argos have picked up the well-worn, recently-released former Bomber QB, Matt Nichols and signed him for 3 years. Sure Matt is a solid veteran QB but with his lack of speed and mobility behind a porous Argo O-line and without Andrew Harris in the backfield I don't see this going well for Matt or the Argos. At least Matt has wriggled free of Lapo but Jarious Jackson? Yeesh! Good luck Matt. You're going to need it!

Personally, I think if he was given the opportunity last year we still would've been champs. Wish him all the best in his future endeavors... I suspect he'll land in Ottawa with Lapolice, but that's just me. Left everything on the field for this team and city - I hope he will tell his daughter fond stories of Winnipeg and how she got her middle name (Winnie) as he helped turnaround an otherwise floundering organization, and he was able to simultaneously resurrect his football career.

    All the best.

    Well said.

I will never understand why some fans feel the need to tear down a player in order to build another one up. Nichols played good ball for us but couldn't get us over the hump and Collaros did. They played almost identical ball, but Collaros proved he can come up bigger when the team needed a play. It is complete nonsense to suggest Nichols was no good and just shows ignorance really. He helped us win a lot of games over the past several years and is a big part of the success we have had. To suggest otherwise is stupid. Collaros, when healthy, brings more intangibles to us but that doesn't diminish the fact that Nichols can execute an offence.

Yes, I loved when Nichols made plays like this ...

    and this ...

    Oh wait ...

Have you taken a look at Collaros's passing chart? Get used to the short dump offs they are not going anywhere. Something like 85% of ZC's throws with us last year were within 5 yards of the LOS. He just took a couple more shots down the field per game than Nichols, and had more success doing so.

Yeah, they play the exact same way. There won't be any difference.

Stamps letting Derek Dennis go to free agency. Anybody else wondering why Hufnagel would let a perennial CFL All Star tackle go when his $650,000 a year qb is coming off major shoulder surgery? Stamps renegotiated BLM's contract to be able to have more flexibility with the cap & then cheap out protecting Mitchell\s backside... On another note, Mitchell's GC & MOP rings were stolen January 2nd out of his truck while parked out on the street. Calgary Police made an arrest but the rings are long gone. Why would he leave valuables like that in his pickup??? If they were mine, they'd be locked away in a safety deposit box at my bank.

    Who says they aren't?
