66 Chevelle got a reaction from TBURGESS in Does MOS even try out Collaros if Streveler doesn’t get hurt?
I disagree... I don't think Osh had any plans to play ZC... he said the week before they traded for him that they weren't looking for a QB... Walters was though... I figured that Walters got ZC for fan optics as many were screaming that we didn't have anyone but McQuire if Streveler got hurt, so, he made a trade... however, Lapo had different ideas than Osh...
speaking of Osh and his loyalty, I feel he would have maintained that loyalty to CS if not for the injury... after all, if we're going to be honest, Streveler wasn't playing that bad... even though his record prior to going into the Calgary game was 3-4 he had played well enough to have actually been 5-2, and this was against the top half of each division... should have won the LDC and we won't even get into the Montreal debacle...
so, heading into the Calgary game we should have been 12-4 and soundly in first place of the west... in the Calgary game it was said above that CS was ineffective... which isn't true... he took a lead into half time and regained the lead once again in the fourth... however the D once again let him down... 33 pts, the amount we scored should have been enough to win that game... only 4 other times in 2019 out of 180 games played had a team scored 33 or more pts and lost... but D lets down and CS gets hurt... does Lapo pull him, no... in fact he continues to call his number to the point the guy can hardly stand back up... they do pull, but not for the game, they send him back in and again, call his number... at this point even the Calgary fans are screaming 'geez, your QB is hurt pull him before you kill him' (ok, I'm making that part up, but, you get the idea)... no, we just keep calling his number until crap is breaking in CS's body...
Lapo was all in for ZC and got his wish... which is fine, it's worked out for us in the end, but, at the cost of hurting a player... how else do you explain the chain of events in that Calgary game? if not, you'd have to say that our coaches or too stupid, blind, or just didn't give a **** about CS and possible long term injury...
short answer, no, if not for the injury ZC would not have seen the field... chain of events makes Osh look like a genius when it was actually dumb luck on his part and dose of "I don't give a **** about CS" on Lapo's part... 😀

this is another one of those times that fall under 'winning fixes everything', lol.,.. Osh is a great 'players coach' but not a great football coach... how quickly we forgot all of the dumb coaching moves he has made, especially in big games... 2016 playoffs? 2017 playoffs? field goal and fake punt anyone?  and there have been many 'in game' gaffs along the way... his use of challenges, or not using them... you know them, you've witnesses them... and lets stop and think for just a moment, what would all have been saying  about not pulling Streveler if ZC came out in the next game and on the 1st play he suffers another concussion... which was a very real possibility...  or he just failed miserably... slightly less probable but possible, nobody could know for sure... there would have been a mob in the street with pitch forks and torches looking for him...
maybe being a good leader of men is enough as he does seem to be that, but he's not a great football mind... like I said, winning fixes everything...

I have to agree... last year the night before the Banjo Bowl I was at The Keg having dinner some friends and a whole table of Rider fans came in and were seated next to us... one of the guys I was dining with was Poop and one of the Rider fans recognized him and engaged all of us in conversation... they were very cordial and had nothing but nice things to say about the game and the Bombers... you can't, or maybe shouldn't, hold the sins of a small group of idiots against the whole of the group... I guess... on second thought... eff the Riders! lol...

I thought I  had remembered seeing that somewhere this year... I too watched Laugh In, not as much a matter of choice, actually quite the opposite... but when you're a kid and your mom and dad picked what was on the only TV in the house you either watched along with them or found something to break, burn, or otherwise destroy... lol... makes me laugh now though... we had a 20 something inch black and white console TV, no remote as you actually had to get up and go over and turn the dial, that picked up the only 3 channels you could get most of the time without having to move the antenna... those were the days...

I was a big fan at first but that soured as he started doing some bizarre stuff and I began to question his intelligence. I said he was too green and that he had a lot to learn and it might take 10 years for him to get the needed experience. Well, it took 6 years and here he is in the championship game. Well done, MOS. I was a little off.

you felt so strongly about 'delete' that you posted it twice to make sure we all saw it?  lol... just fun-ing you a bit...
here's my deal with Nichols... yes, a lot of what's holding him back is Lapo and the schemes that he wants to use, but, Nichols owns part of it and may be part of the reason why Lapo does what he does as well... say what you want but the numbers, other than yards, do mean a lot to Matt Nichols... he looks to his efficiency numbers, completion %, TD to INT ratio as justification of his skill... he's not completely wrong in this aspect but it's part of the reason why his ceiling is 'good' to 'very good' but will never be mentioned in the same sentence as the 'great' or 'elite'...
Nichols plays it too safe, except for the occasional slant or deep ball he wants to see the numbers on his receiver's jersey to pull the trigger... the part of his game that is missing is you don't see him 'throwing his receiver open' or the back shoulder type of pass.  if he doesn't have a receiver sitting in a pocket or hole he checks down, which is evident by the throwing chart I posted... also, he doesn't play situational football, meaning that depending on field position and down and distance we will still throw the ball away instead of taking that shot down field... yes, there is a chance of interception at times, but, depending on those things I mentioned it equals to no more than punting anyway if you are intercepted... however, you down throw away the chance of a completion, or the frequent PI call, and deep the offense moving for the sake of not throwing the INT... in a lot of instances you may rather have your QB throw that INT to a DB instead of punting to a return specialist... it's not something you necessarily plan to do all the time but there are times in a game where it makes sense...
Lapo doesn't exhibit a lot of trust in Nichols by the game plan he gives him... if Nichols happens to throw an INT, Lapo really tightens things up in the manner in which he calls plays... you'll see all of our receivers in the same 5 to 7 yard zone trying to find a hole to become a target...
another thing with Nichols is that he seems to be very streaky, i.e. when he gets on a roll and things are going good we gets better as he goes... on the other hand, if he gets off to a rocky start he tends to keep moving in the wrong direction... look at the first time he played Hamilton this year, he was coming off that long streak of completions and in his first throw of that game he threw an interception and from there on the wheels fell completely off... he had 3 INTs that game and maybe a fumble as well... the offense as a group had 6 turn overs... but it was like quicksand for him that night, just kept getting worse...
the best thing that can happen for Nichols is to hit a long ball right out of the gates and he builds on it... when he's on, he's very good... but if you give him safe, as Lapo does, that's what you get, safe... but, if you give him a scheme that creates seperation for the receivers, gets the defense out of the way a bit, it allows for larger throwing windows and lanes for him to pass, which he really benefits from... but if I were his OC, I'd try to start with a big play out of the gates and then a few shorter passes to get him a good place and then start opening up the offense with more layered routes and at varying depths to allow him to be successful early and to build on it... otherwise, we have a hard time 'turning things up' if needed late in the game and tend to struggle greatly to move the chains and keep the ball and scoring...
Nichols has gotten the label of 'game manager'... people try to spin that into a positive but we all know that it's a negative... nobody wants to be labeled a game manager because it says you lack the ability to be a dynamic QB... it basically says 'you suck'... when being a game manager becomes acceptable it also becomes the norm... we have proof of that...

that's just not true, I created a thread for the sole purpose of saying 'thank you' and that I appreciated the fact that the members here were very gracious and accommodating for those coming from TEP... but I'll also say I did so because I felt it was warranted... but I'm not trying to turn this discussion into a you vs. me or here vs. there deal... the two places are pretty much night and day from each other, not only in appearance but also in discussion... both places have their plus' and minus' (is that how you do that, with a ' after the s? I don't know, lol) so depending on what you find enjoyable you will ultimately pick one or the other...
personally, I like discussing the Bombers, it's players, the organization, and the play of the game... I like both and will continue to post at both... if I had to pick a 'home' I'd have to say TEP just because I've been there longer...  but regardless, if I'm sitting in a bar somewhere and at another table there is either MBB members or TEP members, it doesn't matter which, and some thugs come up and start giving them ****... I'm there... it's on like donkey kong, lol... I've got your back... for me I don't need to draw that line in the sand and pick one or the other, I hope others don't feel I need to as well...

you can't win without talent on the field, but, it's still possible to have talent and still lose... that's not to say that you can take less talented players and coach them up to make them play better as a unit, but, to be a consistent winner you need talented players...
