Some people don’t understand run blocking and pass blocking is completely different and they can’t seem to realize one may be very good and one may be not as good.

-it's both, the chicken and the egg... Nichols isn't all that good and Lapo doesn't trust him with more than he is currently giving him...  so Lapo thinks he's doing everyone a favor by giving Nichols what he thinks he can execute but it just makes everything more predictable and easy to stop... it's amazing that Lapo doesn't see it... I think Lapo is trying to keep Nichols from spiraling completely into the abysss… he doesn't do Streveler any favors either, or the team for that matter, by giving him what he does... it has become equally as predictable.... which you could make the case that this is the reason for some of the O line trouble as it doesn't take much pressure to get Nichols to bail...

If you are hypersensitive to criticism, you should stay out of professional sports, stand-up comedy and politics.

Absolutely. But as a professional you need to keep that stuff to yourself and rise above it. Use it for fuel.

I don't think Glenn was mentally weak, its just that he didn't give a ****. Nichols seems much more fragile. Crying to the papers about getting booed and all.

The nice thing about Matthews is they got him signed in low 6 figures with decent bonus structure, very little up front, because he literally had no market.  It was very low risk for the Bombers, and that's really the only way he fit in here.

I still say the biggest impediment to winning a cup is our offensive and defensive coordinators.
Cripes remember the change that happened to Drew Willy the more time he spent with Lapo and how Nichols was a breath of fresh air? And now the things people are all over Nichols for sounds a lot like the things they were on Willy for? Immobile, checks down all the time... can't improvise... maybe it is time for people to consider that Lapo is a **** OC for a qbs development.

This team is built to be this team for exactly 1 season.  Sure some guys are just starting three year deals, but about 1/3 of the team will be free agents at the end of this season, including many key Canadians.

The Oline? The guys who blocked for harris all night? Nichols wasn't under pressure all game long vs Argos.. Ya they had pressure at times but it wasnt constantly. ABN tho.  Anyone But Nichols

No question the O-line stunk against Hamilton, but against Toronto, Nichols had all the time a competent quarterback needed. Nichols has no excuse/reason/justification/rationale for his performance.

The counter to this would be, with this core how many more years can we waste using the whole “time will tell” excuse? Nichols is who he is. It’s clear that even with this stacked offence, he frequently isn’t even adequate enough to beat a previously winless, mess of a team. How much more do we have to wait and see? This more or less happens every year.

He didn't become anything, he's the same guy. 2002 #1 receiver on the team Milt Stegall, #2 Arland Bruce... #3 and #4 Charles Roberts and Mike Sellers.
Dumping the ball off is what Lapo has always done. Cripes he did the exact same **** when he was head coach too. Remember all the complaining about guys running 7 yard patterns when they need 10 yards? He is the exact same guy he has always been. Can draw up a good playbook and must do a good job during the week, but as a play caller he absolutely ******* sucks because he does 2 things, he outsmarts himself and he calls a passive game.
I have more faith in Ritchie Hall than I do Lapo and that's saying something cause Hall isn't the best coordinator out there either.

The whole Walters thing is interesting to me...  To me it seems like Walters approaches this whole team building thing like a business. He has a plan going into the off season and he sticks to it and makes his decision with absolutely no emotion. Which for me is a good thing, he has no problem drawing that line in the sand and then sticking to it...
that's not to say that he isn't willing to pay up for a guy he wants but he approaches it overall in a dollars and cents manner. I think he's done a great job in assembling a very good team while having to make tough choices because of SMS. That being said, I don't see him following in the footsteps of Calgary or BC and spending that kind of coin for a QB.
Nichols is signed thru next season so he is kind of driving his own destiny. If he can get it back on track and get the team to a solid winning record overall, I think he's save regardless of playoff performance. You know O'Shea will be in his corner because a winning season likely continues to keep him employed in Winnipeg. We're not that far removed from those lean years so team success will continue to be job 1 as it keeps the wolves at a safe distance.
Plus, there isn't anyone else out there to sign, at least not at the moment. O'Shea and Lapo have done nothing to prepare Streveler to take over so he is likely gone after this season because I think someone will be willing to give him a shot at being #1 and Walters is going to want to spend the kind of money it will take to keep him and have him as a back up.
like you said, it should be interesting... But we will know early enough, Nichols is due a large bonus payment Jan. 15th....

I don’t need to see emotion. Saying “I was terrible” rather than “Receivers weren’t open” doesn’t require a guy with a fiery passion. But the better leaders almost exclusively say the former rather than the latter.

Andrew Harris takes responsibility when he underperforms or makes a big mistake, why should Nichols get a pass?
