Not nearly enough love for Doug Brown in this thread. Greatest DT in league history, American or Canadian, and moved to town full time to give back in a number of ways. He's everything you could ask for of a professional athlete in your community.

I've come to realize that the whole "Americans crossing the border" thing isn't really an issue. When talking about NHL, the feds have said that they can come over, but they have to quarantine for 14 days before they're allowed to do anything. So I'm not concerned about that at all.

So, I love the discussion on this, but here's a couple thoughts from someone in broadcasting re:advertising/advertisers...
-Shopping for anything and everything is down right now. If people aren't spending money at a business (Wendy's, Rona, Save On Foods, etc...) that business can't afford to advertise. That's sort of the world we're living in right now. All media corps are BEGGING for advertising right now...they've all seen a major drop off. So, asking the clients to pay more because "more eyes on the product" isn't going to fly, because they just can't afford to right now.
I'm not saying anything is absolute, but the whole world of advertising has changed in the last two months, so I'm not sure what would actually work...

If they televised all the games as normal...with no fans..viewership would more than double as more eyes would be on the TV's...so Companies paying for advertisement on the broadcasts would get way more bang for their buck..so there is an upside to that
Gate revenue and concession revenue is the big loss in this scenario, and there is no way around that....I still tho don't see the league folding in the scenario when a season is cancelled...a majority of team costs come from salaries to players and staff and all support staff with game day and event personel...so save for the bonuses already paid out there is not a whole lot of huge $$ having to be put out in a no season scenario.
maybe the CFL will have to go with hand out to the big bad NFL for some kind of "assistance"...150M is a drop in the hat for them, and the CFL existence is something the NFL most likely wants around as it helps it more than it hurts it

The PPV idea is fatally flawed.
TSN makes it's money selling ads. The more people who watch the games, the more those ads cost. PPV greatly reduces the number of folks who watch, which in turn, greatly reduces the amount TSN can charge and bring in. They'd be better off putting all the games on TV and giving the CFL the contracted amount of money for the number of games televised.

One thing the "let's find a way to do the season" folks seem to be forgetting is that it's not up to them.  It's the perview of Public Heath to determine if and how it can happen.  People like Lyle Bauer (exactly why we would be listing to him escapes me) forget that it's not just about seating.  It's entering into the stadium, the concourses,  the vending lineups, the washrooms, the exiting of the stadium and a bunch of other situations where social distancing will be difficult to impossible to enforce.  Not to mention the very likely possibility of a strong re-occurance in the fall all point to how dangerous this would be.
Football's fun, but it's not life and death.

Meet Bleska Kambamba, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ eighth-round pick in the 2020 Canadian Football League Draft. In fact, he is the CFL Draft’s ‘Mr. Irrelevant’, taken with the very last selection in the whole affair.

“It’s about putting your head down and working harder. I’m excited about what I’m going to with the Bombers. They seem to see talent and then give you an opportunity. That’s all you can ask for as a player.

The thread wasn't derailed. It had already gone to Simonise and if he'd had a fair chance or not. Just GN20 miss reading one of my posts again then whining about it. It's kinda his shtick.

My comment was about those who were pumping Simonise's tires. If you could just ignore the comments that aren't about you... that'd be great.
Simonise got all the chances he deserved and did nothing with them. We had better Canuck receivers so we cut him. It's just football.

A friend of mine was in camp with the bombers last year. He told me Simonise was out of it at camp. Seemed like he was not engaged at all. Also there was a story about when they went around the room and introduced themselves on the first day he said something really strange. Gave my buddy the impression he was not that bright.

The guys who were shamelessly pumping Simonise's tires want to believe they were right about him, so the story becomes 'he wasn't given a chance'. It's easier than admitting they were wrong in the first place.

He's been cut by the Bengals, the Bombers & the Lions. How can you say he hasn't had any real opportunities?  One NFL & 2 CFL teams gave him opportunities. He had an opportunity with the Dinos but blew that when he was ruled academically ineligible to play for the Dinos.  That would definitely raise a red flag by any pro team. If a player isn't disciplined to put in the time to  study in university then how can he be expected to be disciplined to learn the intricacies of an NFL or CFL playbook?
After dropping out of university he failed a drug test & tested positive for a banned substance when he was at the Bengals training camp. Then his CFL draft year deferred to 2018 from 2017 because of it.
In a real head scratcher, after being cut by the Bengals he went to play junior ball with the Okanagan Sun. How would playing against mostly kids a year or two out of high school make him a better player after going to an NFL camp? Why not sign with an Arena League team or stay in the US to train & get better??
Still he got drafted by the Bombers even though he never dominated as a junior player with the Sun. The he was cut by the Bombers after 2 seasons here & last season with the Lions. To me, all this falls on the player & not the teams who cut him. Simonise decided himself to take the long & hard road to the pros. It didn't have to be that way so it was his decision. He was given chances. In some cases more than one. It' was up to Simonise to take advantage of what was given him. Looks like he didn't.  Bad decisions played a part. Maybe the reality is he wasn't good enough.

Tanner Cadwallader   7th round draft pick

Coach O’Shea called me shortly after I was picked. That alone was just an amazing experience,” said Cadwallader. “As soon as I saw his name come up on my phone I was on top of the world because he’s somebody I idolized since I was a kid.

“He played at Guelph, which is a short drive from my place. You go through Guelph’s facility and there are these 12-foot pictures of him. I’ve got books about Canadian football that he’s quoted in… he’s such an icon and a legend. So, to have that guy calling me – even just for interviews before the draft – it’s incredible. I keep using that word – incredible – but it’s how I feel.

“What I like about watching the Bombers is all of those guys seem to play with their hearts on their sleeves and they’re diehards. I’m excited to be a part of that because that’s the way I like to play.

“I love the culture they’ve built in Winnipeg. I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

“When Coach O’Shea called me and I saw his name pop up on my phone I burst into tears with emotion. Just to hear him say, ‘Congrats and we can’t look forward enough to having you with us and we’re so happy we got a chance to pick you.’ That’s such an amazing moment. I just kept saying, ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you… ‘
“And so,” added Liegghio with a laugh, “I felt like I needed to call him the next day and have more of a real conversation other than just repeating ‘Thank you’ a thousand times over and over again.”
