  1. This trade reminds me of when we traded Alex Hall to the Riders for their 2013 GC run. We aren't going to re-sign Adams and he just lost his starting job to Frederick. Got something for nothing with a player that will likely bolt to the NFL next season.

So I know we got the rights to McKay, how much longer do players usually bounce around the NFL before they come north? Anyone have any idea? Is this an effort to improve our current roster (i.e. this year), or is this a more long-term acquisition?

The Riders lost the tie breakers to us and Edmonton. They need what to win out and hope Edmonton loses every game?

Pretty much, right now the Riders are 3-10 with 5 games remaining (best possible record is 8-10) and Edmonton is 6-7 with 5 games remaining (worst possible record would be 6-12). Riders could still cross-over if Edmonton managed to win only won 1 of their last 5 (finishing 7-11), assuming the Riders run the table and finish 8-10.

Even if the stars did align and the Riders do win out AND Edmonton loses out, that doesn't guarantee a cross-over since they also would need 2 of the 4 teams in the East to have a final record of worse than 7-11... highly unlikely, since Toronto (currently in 3rd) is 5-8...

The only reason I care is because it keeps the pipe dream alive of us getting to the Grey Cup through the West, whilst Saskatchewan would take the much weaker road through the East. The end result? Us steamrolling them in the Grey Cup in a season the Riders thought was all but lost.

It probably won't happen (apparently Riders playoff chances right now are at about 0.09%, assuming games are determined by a coin flip)... but a man can dream.

  3. I like the move to bench Johnny Adams this week - he's just looked out of place and Frederick seemed to be getting the job done. Hopefully it'll either wake up Adams, or Frederick will continue his good play.

Very much so looking forward to that home-and-home against B.C. - if that series isn't a split, I think the winner takes 2nd in the West. Hopefully the Riders can help us out with a W against B.C. in their last home game at Mosaic.

Also - fun fact, the Riders aren't yet mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, although their only chance is via a cross-over to the East.

Maybe, i have a hard time seeing it though. He would start on probably 3 other teams in the cfl right now maybe 4. If we dont make it work with 2 backs I think hes gonna be gone before long one way or a another.

Flanders has looked good the last few games, unfortunately I think its just a case of odd-man out once Harris is healthy. Using Harris as the Canadian WR would be an interesting one-of or "gadget-play" formation, but re-tooling the entire offense around it wouldn't really work.

You're right though, Flanders is definitely on the radar for some teams now though...

Once upon a time we had a 3rd string RB who backed up Eric blount and troy mills. A guy named charles roberts. Every one in the cfl is a back up until they arent. And the last two weeks, flanders hasnt been a back up.

Fair point. Maybe someday Flanders will be the successor to Andrew Harris... however with respect to the topic of this thread - the starting RB position goes to Harris, assuming he can play.

just a change up here but wasn't Cold FX proven to be fake? That it does nothing to prevent colds?

Even then, the "placebo" effect is well-documented in medicine as providing positive results.

Also, who do we want to win this game? B.C. to further push the Eskies away from us? .. or Edmonton, to allow us to possibly gain ground on B.C.? I'd be leaning towards Edmonton... either way though I'm hoping for injuries...suspensions... or both.

Why do I see this popping up in a future thread about "you're not a true fan if....."

New benchmark for true fandom set. Better get on it, 17 and Noeller. Perhaps a day trip to Kansas to expedite the process. Or are you not true fans???????

How has FOX Network not created an NFL-version of this as a reality TV show? This seems like exactly the kind of thing they'd jump at.

Based on winning percentage, that 16-2 mark is only 5th best all-time:

That '48-'49 Calgary dynasty also won 22 games in a row over those 2 seasons. And, fun fact, Calgary has won 15 games in a season 4 times in their history, but 3 of those times did not win the Grey Cup.

If we lose Saturday, I'm considering this my silver lining... we're just luring them into a false sense of security.

Medlock has kicked at least two field goals in every game in our win streak, except for the Banjo Bowl, where he only kicked one.

If we take two of those FGs away in each game (and don't turn them into enemy TDs or our rouges) then we go 6-1 instead of 7-0, with the lone extra loss being the LDC.

Love the guy and how he helps peck teams to death, but is his impact overstated?  I think our ballhawking D deserves the biggest credit for our turnaround.  It'll be interesting to see what happens when those turnovers dry up.

(edit: but yeah, the medsiah name is pretty awesome.)

It's more than that though... I can't remember the last time the Bombers had a kicker they could place faith in. Is his impact overstated? Probably, but the kicker position is somewhere the Bombers have struggled with and had mediocrity for far too long. Palardy, anyone?

  10. Edmonton beat 'em (and we beat Edmonton, in Edmonton), Ottawa tied 'em - Calgary is a good football team but I feel they are overdue for a loss. On top of that, they just clinched a playoff berth last week. Doesn't happen in the CFL that often (since they play weekly), but in the NHL on long road trips or back-to-back games, sometimes great NHL will take a night off and lose to a far inferior team.

So in conclusion... if the Bombers show up, Calgary skates lazily and the game is played on ice, we have a chance.

  11. Not sure about the Bombers... but for the Riders I'd have to say...

Most Outstanding Player - Chris Jones
Most Outstanding Canadian - Chris Jones
Most Outstanding Defensive Player - Chris Jones
Most Outstanding Lineman - Chris Jones
Most Outstanding Special Teams Player - Chris Jones
Most Outstanding Rookie - Chris Jones

Probably the biggest signing by the Riders this year.

We should sign somebody, somebody like Courtney Taylor, who suddenly is available. Somebody should be checking the airport for him.

With the NFL season starting up, for those interested here's a list of players with previous CFL experience that were recently cut from NFL rosters:

The article is a few weeks old (Sept 4), but likely still has merit.

Interesting piece of info. 10 pressures allowed by Stanley Bryant with 2 holds definitely classifies as upper tier. But what classifies as a pressure?

It'd be interesting to see if there is any correlation between this statistic and the amount of rushing attempts the QBs have - the fact that Tony Washington is so high on that list may also be due to some additional pressures being caused by Reiley scrambling... it could just as easily be because he sucks at blocking though.

The irony of a weak draft is ,theoretically at least , there will be less interest from NFL teams making more borderline picks likely to attend CFL camps.

I would add that maybe we've been a little spoiled by the quality in recent drafts and  this group will look a whole lot better after the months leading up to the draft.

So long as the draft is just slightly weaker, and not green-and-white bad.
