Slightly better version of Houston imo. Doesn't cheat as much, but isn't great. He played half a year last year, I don't think we will see much upward movement from him, hes 28 to. Dodged a major bullet. Yuupp. I get hes an electric athlete. But he isn't that guy and db isn't that position. The scheme was a big part of it. And the fact that teams kept throwing that way 1 because we had softer coverage guys, but also Nichols and Bond to the other side. I think he'd be doing similar to last year if he were here. But Edmonton D isn't like ours.

It's a long list, but off the top of my mind, Deven Thompson, WR/KR, would be an exceptional get. That guy is insanely explosive and a much better WR than you usually see from that kind of outlier athlete. Zay Paige, another diminutive kr/wr type. Denzel Mims is an incredible athlete with great size who was very productive in the NCAA. He went in the 2nd round to the Jets. He could be a real killer in the CFL as a SB. Garmon Randolph is a huge end who projects similarly to WJ, and was even a TE in high school. Shaka Toney is another great athlete with pretty good pass-rush skills. Bunch of guys in or through the XFL, and NFL TCs. Not as many early college career kids, it's a pretty mature list.

Woah. Making the whole list available is something I never expected.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
wbbfan replied to Atomic's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Pretty much. Week 6 is a bye week for us to. So hopefully Kelly and Makonzo can both be healthy for when they are set to come off, then use the bye week to get sharp. It's gonna make for some real tough decisions with the AR when both come off though. I'd take Hallett and Kornelson off. Or even stop dressing the 7th ol for one. But I don't think mos would ever consider 2 of those moves. -
There is a point, especially if you don't think he will play in the first 6 games short of an injury. You can always remove him from the 6. I think we probably need 1 global on the pr, but I'd go digging through the cuts. Weitz doesn't bring anything. I think we need an air lift of WRs. We should be cycling them through to find guys who can step up. Because we have a bunch of guys who are nicked/playing sub 100% already, histories of injuries, and a lot of low-production guys. After that, we need more pass rushers. We have a few, but we are well beyond the best-before date on both WJ and Vaughters.
-
I believe woods is a fake injury, but I can’t be sure. If he’s for real hurt, pointer shouldn’t have been out right released. Maybe he didn’t want to sit on the pr, but I don’t by default expect that. honestly, for as much as we’ve blitzed, carrying two ends in Bailey and person would be fine to have one rush with a hand up from different spots. A team with guys like Lawson and adams who can play 0, 3i and 4i with a good pass rush, we shouldn’t struggled to have pressure with our front in either alignment.
-
For me, I'd put on Woods for Vanterpool, sit Jake, put on Bailey for the rotation on the edge with Sergio punting, I'd flip Sterns for Mitchell, Jones for Kyrie. Cut Chase and Scmekel and go find another imp wr for the pr.
-
Hagerty was an option at S, too. Honestly, if you can play Sam in the CFL, you can play a bunch of DB. Novak, Shay and Smith do eat up a lot of roster spots, but they offer decent versatility at least. As much as I like what hallett has done here as a teams guy, I'd a taken Hagerty over Hallett.
-
Evil voice: "I said every one of them's a starter!"
-
Thomas, not even being a GTD is strange. Missed 2/3 practices. We seem married to the idea that the only rotation our DL needs is bringing in all the Canadians at once for a package. The sad thing is, Vaughters and WJ have been the least effective pair of ends in the league thus far. Our limited pressures mostly come from Adams and Lawson being on the field at the same time, or one of them individually making a play.

Mary had a little lamb?

only 17 db/lbers. Idk how we will manage.... Yeah, it is. They should be top dog going after NFL cuts, but realistically, we probably won't. Brady and Vanterpool's back is good. It could've been better, but game day rosters are like that MadTV skit, lowered expectations. Mos is like Stewart, too. Come on, now, Mos, put on enough DL to rotate. "I don't wanna!"
-
Schmek has great motor, and a willingness. I can get why you’d think after the first camp you can mold him into some thing useful. unfortunately, he hasn’t taken any steps forward and hasn’t been able to translate hustle into ability to get pressure or stuff the run. Really, doesn’t take much to replace shmeck. They have been playing two Canadians at dt so much, they need a 3rd to maintain that. Which is just sad. Because we don’t need it ratio wise.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

That would make sense especially if he gets a spot else where soon. Which I could see, he’s a solid back end Canadian teams guy. -
Yeah and kept ball over hagerty too. Or schmekel. best moves we’ll made was finally jettisoning guys like ba and biggie. Shame we didn’t move on from Thomas/kola/kyrie too.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

Bombers cut hagerty, Cooley back to pr. Little surprised we cut hagerty and kept ball. Must really like the kid. Imagine bo goes back in, maybe vanterpool. -
We should’ve learned our lesson last year from what Bryant went through. If a linemen is sick for a week, don’t throw him into the heat of a summer game. have the opportunity to make some good changes, not betting we will see more than 1 positive change though.
-
The nhl season and post season is egregiously long. I feel like they always taper down into the finals. But again not a hockey guy. The presentation, pre game, none game related coverage (trade deadline, draft, free agency) is very much what I think the cfl needs. the current presentation is more like a cheap Canadian sitcom about people the announcers working an ESPN the ocho type sport. In my experience, the NHLs presentation doesn’t confuse selling the steak with selling sizzle.

Adam’s is a sick athlete. I could see teaching him to kick off, in college he was booming balls with a janky half extension on his leg. Idk if he has the flexibility to be an actual punter, though he has the explosive power in his leg. I dig using practice to develop modular depth. Idk why Castillo hasn’t been our full time punter, he’s a damn good punter. I don’t dare to dream that. Jake apparently has a cold or some thing. I bet he plays even if he has a fever of 103 and no matter how bad he plays mos would sing his praises. The triple Canadian front is soo bad. Idk why we bother. Lawson + adams inside has been soo disruptive.

They do, but not one willing to eat losses, buy fans, improve the stadium/invest seriously in the team. Hamilton and bc have owners with deep pockets and real passion for the team and league. That’s the difference. The old Olympic stadium is going through a massive rebuild that’s going to turn the stadium back into a top notice facility. But the ALs aren’t involved or seemingly even interested. It’s true, the vibe at the rum hut is next level. I’ve got a couple cousins who never cared for any sports and both love going to games and hanging out at the rum hut. Ones become a pretty good bomber fan. They could legit sell 5-10k standing only tickets in the concourse area and still fill the seats. My uncle was never more than a casual tv fan when times were good. He’s had season tickets the last few years now. And was getting 5 packs back to 18. The game day experience in the stadium is phenomenal. And yes, being a great team helps too. They would have to completely flip the value proposition of the league to do that. Which would be a gigantic change, for what in the end would leave us in a similar financial situation. Don’t get me wrong, we desperately need to grow the streaming and tv side of the market and that’s the future. But the league is a gate driven gate dependant entity. And the viewership product is miles away from being where it would need to be. Imo is mostly smoke and mirrors from short term windfalls. Like the modest epsn us tv deal. To take the next step the league needs tsn to create what the nhl has on tv. (Atleast last I saw and perceive, I don’t watch hockey) the CFL is in a position where if it isn’t growing, it’s dying.
-
Most of the league is either in trouble or right in the verge of being in trouble. Ham and bc are ok because their owners can eat it / buy fans and won’t sweat losses. We are rock solid of course. The rest, at best treading water. Even at that, if bc/ham had a sudden ownership turnover they’d be in serious trouble quickly. For us, we obviously have deep coffers now. And a strong fan base. But we did at the turn of the 90s to. If we had an extended competitive collapse, the eventual fan base exodus would be a massive problem for the league. The riders are half way down the toilet already. If the top draws in the league barely got 20k the tsn deal would plummet and total gate average would be serious trouble. The league is at a crossroads. New tsn deal soon, bunch of teams on the fringe, already failed to capitalize on a younger generation the new commish has his work cut out for him, and the board.

Last years start and first 1/3 was brutal.
-
I could go either way on vanterpool. Be nice to have him back, but I think we could use that roster flexibility else where too.

Never a perfect schedule when a bunch of teams like Toronto are dead last in terms of scheduling importance at their own venue. we don’t need a perfect schedule. We need a reasonably competent one though. Where top divisional rivals season series isn’t wrapped up 3 weeks into the season. the gap in terms of excitement and entertainment value has closed dramatically in the past 10-15 years. While the talent level is plateaued, and coaching tapered off hard. Yep. I’d be good with a 50/50 split of touches for Brady and Peterson in the first week or two as well. Ease Brady back into it. Getting banged up early in the year can be really tough to bounce back from.
