3 turds plus cranky honker don’t say roster management edition
wbbfan replied to wbbfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Vanterpool is best off continuing to groom as the T, Stan has been on his last leg for a while now. But it doesn't hurt to have multiple guys ready to step in to a position like C. -

I don’t think any one would give up any asset for zach. Especially not on that deal and with a year next year on the books. Any team that would want him would wait it out for him to be released. -

I’d be into that. We could kick in a depth pick, maybe some one like Lofton, Kelly… kola! -
I like him and woodbey at S. I think Allen is much more ready a fit at corner though. Depends on how many guys are out. Gonna be a lot of turn over that’a for sure. kelly was picking up guys running free, he looked like a guy whose green for basically playing starters snaps. He should be a back up taking a moderate set of package snaps.

Wallace has also taken C snaps in pre season and camp here. If Eli isn’t the answer, I’d try Wallace and stick Lofton at G that’s his natural position any way. -
Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news
wbbfan replied to WinnipegGordo's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Looks like the UFL is critically failing again. 4 teams, the former usfl division, are being relocated with no plans or destinations yet. Lots of other speculation's circulating as well. Likely the end of the UFL. -

Tony? Yes. Couple teams are struggling with lber and Tony has the pop on film and star box. What would we get? Idk 3-4th rounder probably? Kyrie? No. Big Stan? Modest return but yes. I think some one would give a 5th or lower to mainly be a player coach who can start in the stretch run. Nichols would get interest, maybe a 2-3rd. Holm maybe 3-4. Vaughters/wj have more value. But wj won’t likely keep it high for as long. 1-2nd. Does having a fire sale help us become a better team sooner? Imo no. I think we’d end up with 2 really good years of rookie ni crops but end up not having enough spaces for those guys. The moves to make would be seeing if we can hold wink any one into giving us value for guys like Thomas/kola. 1 or 2 moves to bring in players who help us today, and possible getting Wilson back from the nfl while jettisoning the worst of what we have. I think a big move that could happen and could help us is actually trading strev. Swapping him for another teams vet back up qb would shake up our locker room in a big way. With all the injuries around the league I think a couple teams would be interested. Maybe you kick in a depth guy/pick to get a slight upgrade in talent and a good upgrade in fit. -
That hasn’t been the case in a long while. Doubly so since the coaching cap came in. In league scouting is the worst its ever been by a huge margin. Early in the mafia days we killed it at in league scouting. Since the cap, haven’t found jack. Talent into the league is also down significantly since the nfl pr expansion, increase in nfl pr pay, and the nfls evolution to spread/rpo/spread to run etc schemes that used to not be “pro” systems. When guys get picked up by other teams now, it’s almost always either college overlap scouting, front office/coach moving to a new team and brining guys with them, or grabbing a guy you played against in pre season. Teams are very much fumbling in the dark trying to find talent with very limited tools to do so. This is why we seldom see new players progress to star levels any more, and why every team is hurting for imp talent at multiple spots. That makes it all the harder to watch us cut blue chip guys with out giving many a shot, or guys who actually excelled in camp/ps. We aren’t getting more of that pretty much the rest of the year now. No more LD air lift roster make overs. NFL pr guy in as little as 3 weeks makes as much as a rookie here who starts the whole season once you convert usd/cad and pay Canadian taxes. Rookies and camp cuts don’t have to be all stars immediately, when you play many guys at or below replacement level. Let’s take the easy comparison in Bridges. We easily cut 3-4 dbs better than him. You don’t need to have amazing scouting skills to see that, not when we brought back a tc cut, used a kr who didn’t make it as a db alone, and have two dbs from camp on the pr. Any of those guys would’ve done better than bridges, and offered the up side potential of becoming an all star. Bridges was a known commodity last year. Now do the same with Guys like Kyrie, wr core, bonds etc. Then you can look at well below replacement level Canadians. Because we’ve been under using the allotment of imps, haven’t been playing dis on D/O, haven’t been using the naturalized Canadians, and even a guy like Bailey vs end of PR Canadians like ball/kornelson. What you end up with is a big, big pile of roster spots that give us far below replacement level, that we could’ve used to develop younger more talented guys who performed better in camp/ps. You could even flip a far below replacement level Canadian (kola, Thomas, Corcoran etc) for an import who has already shown flashes of being better than replacement as an imp. Which is a huge talent swing. We’ve tried little of substance to fix the wr core, the mafia has admitted defeat to the 5-6 dl with no viable bodies to rotate, we’ve tried fixing the ol with changes to every spot but kola, and we’ve finally started admitting defeat in the secondary with guys like bridges, and the double switch+ at Sam/s. It isn’t some ridiculous claim to say that guys who got cut out of camp, would’ve been upgrades to guys we kept, who have only continued to struggle or gotten worse. Some positions like qb rely a lot more on nuance/intangibles, and struggle with the speed up to game action. But others, like db/rb/lb etc don’t. Hamiltons poaching efforts (lawler aside) hurt us and helped them with out stars changing place. You might be lucky to have 3-4 stars on your team. The majority of your team is made up of role guys. If those guys play level isn’t as apparent in the stat sheet, and they aren’t getting accolades. But when your depth pieces are suddenly worse than every one else’s, you struggle a lot more. And when you’re go from bottom tier to middle of the pack, you might not have a great D, but suddenly you win a lot more games. Our depth stinks, even the greenest fan sees that. It stinks, because we have failed to develop young guys and move them up the pipeline. When you do that, you end up walking away from good players you shouldn’t have. That is where we are. we likely haven’t Cut any rookie dalton schoen types. But we have cut enough better players that we’ve lost out on a couple that would’ve turned into all stars, and upgrades.

30-40 yards passing in a half will not put you in the win column vs most teams. Neither will squandering a 17 point lead with out answer. we found ways to lose, many of them. Including in the passing game. Zach, and the passing attack was entirely dependant on dropping it off to Brady and hoping he could shoulder all the load of the offense.

Don’t be hard on your self, you’re a way way better writer than any of them. since they lost the edge on pieces like the insider quotes of the week it went from a decent rag to used TP quality wise.

Samson is still a free agent right.

Best case scenario; demote or fire hogan promote Jackson. I think un officially making that change behind closed doors is most realistic. Move on from kola, by hook or by crook. get pookie back from the nfl Make some thing happen at qb. We need a shake to the roster. Doesn’t mean starter has to change but we need some one to push our guys. Faj*,mbt etc. get rid of Jake, dress woods and adams. dump atleast one ar lber di. stop playing dbs that only provide a handy cap to the D. Take the team back to boot camp. Practice and week of prep needs to be competitive and demanding. No more old boys club, no more vet days, no more practices that are just walk throughs. You will never get a D to be physical and tackle well with slack ass prep. Same goes for skill players on offence blocking.
-
Started ok, think we had 30 yards passing in the second half.
-
We’ve seen change at wr, we’ve seen change at ol and qb. If we change hogan we would instantly know where the roster actually stood. Dump kola, and bring in one more wr and I bet you see a lot of improvement.
-
He was 100% an upgrade. He can’t fix problems with the playbook/call though. Nah highlights and that’s more than enough
-
Bryant hasn’t been average to good all year. Rando and Wallace have very bright futures here. They are saddled with a lot of dead weight though. Kola, every one knows. But neuf and Bryant aren’t remotely good/reliable enough any more.
-
Same type of stuff people used to say before the 19 gc win. WRs aren’t good enough, even though we featured guys like Lawler, Demski, Bailey, adams etc. Bad coaching, makes good plays under perform. The classic pitfall of poorly coached cfl teams. Wasting talent, making the team worse than the sum of its parts.
-
To be fair, we targeted him 3 times, he caught all 3, twice he took passes on 2nd down short of the marker and managed to get first downs. Hes not part of the wr problem either imo.
-
Reffing is always bad. Wasn’t specifically worse or more one sided than normal. Our discipline was piss poor though.

1 hogan. Play call, clock management, execution, you name it pure trash. 2 Jy/mos. Playing dbs 10 yards off in the last minute, singles, lack of tackling cover, all of it. 3 kola/jake. Two biggest turd-boat captains. ch a lot of plays could go here, but the single on the kick off after the 63 yard fg. Straw that lost the game. dishonourable mentions, wr core, Neuf, secondary, Walters. Honorable mentions, Brady, Sergio, punter, vaughters, Wallace, and vaval. Zach wasn’t bad, a little risky early but it paid off. Second half Zach couldn’t get any thing going though, and half of zachs passing yards were to Brady especially on check downs. He sure wasn’t good enough in the 2nd half, but he might’ve been with any thing to work with at oc/wr/ol.
