100%. route running and the ability to win leverage is gigantic. Kenny lawler could be shorter, he isn’t fast, but he’s a tremendous route runner and knows how to win and take leverage then makes the most of it. I think money will be a none factor in improving the roster. I don’t think you could easily manage to spend more than the soft cap penalties over what we have. Just bringing him in will elevate our wrs by way of competition imo. no one will want to lose their job.

It's true that Lewis isn't physically huge. He is very similar in size to Schoen. But his skill set is a downfield one. He also has a virtually 6'6 " wingspan and almost 10" hands, which are pretty great downfield tangibles. 1-3 inches in height, 4-5 in length combine for a pretty big increase in catch radius. But being a downfield guy is as much a mentality and about physicality as anything. Arceneaux was a decent bit heavier, but that downfield guy was at a similar height. While dated, Milt is the greatest example of this. 6'0, 185, zero fear. Our wr core is basically small guys that play small. A big guy who plays big would be great. But everyone in every league is looking for that. An average-sized guy who plays big would be a big improvement.

Nailed it. At best, you might get a few true pro rookies up for early auditions in the late season. You aren't going to find turnkey replacement vets anymore. The only guys who trickle up in the same year will be extremely raw or limited. You're right, my bad! It seems like we are seeing more activity this year then in most seasons. There might be moves to be had other than scrap heap pick-ups. But I wonder if we might not end up sellers. The next 6 weeks we have 2 byes, 4 games against the best 3 teams in the league, and another against Ottawa. I think winning 2 games in that stretch is reasonably optimistic. If we underachieve that, we are basically cooked. If we do that, we will likely be playing for the crossover again. Which is a bad position to be in with an expensive, old team on short-term deals, and having just given up prime draft equity.

Now is the winter of our discontent. I don't think even the majority of hardcore fans here expect us to flip some switches and be dominant again. I also do not think you should accept bad football in the CFL. The ability to rebuild to respectability is too great year to year here. No one wants to see what happened to Edmonton after 19 play out here. But if we blindly hold fast to the same group (on the field, in management, and the coaching staff) and do the same things, we will follow that path. The balance is a scrappy team that plays hard and battles for 4 quarters. The type of team you can be proud of. What we have been seeing this year is the opposite of that. From Mos' interviews in the last 2 games, I feel like he knows the reality of what is happening now. And I fully believe that he, Walters, and Wade will not continue to be willing participants in the downturn. We can say what we want about those 3, and we (especially I) have, but they do have pride in the right things when it comes to football. They didn't build the culture in the first place by accident. The reality is that major changes to the Trinity are almost impossible at this point, and for the next 2 years. But changes within them are very possible. I don't think any of those 3 need to be canned to achieve a return to respectability. But I do believe that each of them needs to kill some of their darlings, for the greater good. Just off the top of my head, Wade probably needs to sacrifice profitability. Drop ticket prices, accept losing some money under both caps to create addition by subtraction. Walters needs to either double down on his Canadian scouting and reduce the people we have doing it with him, or take a far greater role in active league scouting/coaching. Mos needs to trim and reorganize his coaching staff and end the "roster management" issues. The Cos ' need to play call to win. Not coach not to lose. Little is worse on the field than a team that tries not to lose and loses. Funny thing is, he's had a couple of good tackles on teams in his time here. He is capable of good tackling, but then most any pro football defender is capable of it. There are good form tackle types that aren't the classic norm. Hawk, Gator, Profile, Swipe, etc. I'm very fond of Hawk tackling, and with how practice is regulated these days, I think it should be the go-to. I also think that instituting it gives you a great opportunity to hard reset the players on D and enforce a good level of discipline and much more. But that isn't the only way to fix the tackling. Right now, I don't think anyone is doing a good job of tackling on this team.

remember, we are comparing him to two canadians who can’t out run olinemen. At worst, lewis would instantly be our best 50/50 guy. I wouldn’t expect lewis to be a wr1 or worth 200k a year. but our replacement level wr right now the wr3 on a mid tier beer league team

(who we have the neglist rights to) My favorite backups: Khari (such a breath of fresh air after Kerwin Bell), and Dru brown (I love the mental toughness and his progression in his first stint here). My favorite backup QB that didn't pan out / got away, Brian Randall. He was frustrating at times to watch with the Hokies, but put it together in his last year. Only ever really scratched the surface of his potential but looked like he could be a high-floor guy; instead, he was a zero-floor guy lol. He's actually the QB coach at Will and Mary now. Honorable mention to Lang Campbell, who was on our NL for a long time, then iirc agreed to sign but ended up retiring a week or two later and working for Morgan Stanley.

practices today are over glorified walk throughs. 4 in 5 days wouldn’t likely do much. We only get a couple extra practices a year with the cba. How we use them is more of an issue.

Entertaining team certainly helps too. Entertaining and winning more important than the old name. Could you imagine a week with edmonton at home, ask at home, and wpg at home, with each drawing 30k+ fans? Just need bc to have a home game and put on a concert lol. Won’t happen this year, but if 3 teams are pulling 28-30k at home for the rest of the year that would be great for the league.

That is an interesting point, idk what the particulars are when it comes to breaking the coaching cap, but that might be a good option. Kind of looks like it's the same as the player cap. So going dollar for dollar to the limit of 100k over would allow bringing in someone. We have the limit of 11 coaches on staff right now, but that could be rectified by sending one guy packing. Hull would be the target for me; WR coaching has been poor, and we have Addison on staff now too. I don't buy that we are doing **** with analytics, so Stanley could be a candidate too. Otherwise, hall/jy or TC/Hogan. Maybe you even send 2 guys packing and bring in 2, and go above the dollar-for-dollar penalty. Obviously you would want to stay below the draft pick penalty. Could also bring in someone as a player/coach. Or put Zach in that role if he isn't going to be back. Remember when we did the same thing with Ayers? We keep doing that, and with guys who aren't pass rushers.

I don't think we fire anyone either, especially with the cap and how the staff is constructed. I could see us handing Hogan back play-calling duties while TC still does install prep, etc, and having Hall step in more over JY instead of under him. The only thing that would accomplish is to lean heavily on someone who has functionally been semi-retired and year-to-year for a couple of years. JY is a chip off of Hall; going from one to the other alone isn't going to change a lot. So canning JY wouldn't accomplish much. JY has had great mid-season adjustments in the past, though. Idk why we are taking so long to make personnel adjustments (outside of injuries) to the secondary this year. We always start with some wacky groupings or systems and rein it in. We put Woodbey back on last night, then kept running 2 Canadian Ss in nickel. We kept running shallow 2s, with 1 half deep. If anything, this D is closer to what Hall would want to run.

Not quick, but the biggest ones aren't to the roster. It is said that familiarity breeds contempt. But not nearly as much as success breeds contempt. Mos came to enjoy winning moderately and not mind losing. If you watch the doc on Jordan's Bulls (or see the memes from it) Jordan hated losing far more than he loved winning. Loving winning wears thin; hating losing never stops or slows down. Walters, I don't think, was such a reach, but he used to look so haggard in every presser or interview. He hasn't in a long time. Football is extremely hard on quality of life, especially with a family. Walters has taken a Danny Mac approach and is prioritizing quality of life, family, and sleep. No one in the organization is hungry enough, especially those with a boss's title of some sort or another. They want comfort and convenience, not bleeding-edge sacrifices to be the best possible. Walters used to run the Canadian side scouting, but more and more he's brought in others to support him and take pieces of the job up here away. Whereas those positions used to be more focused on scouting in the CFL and down south. To Wade's level, the team is still the success story of the league. When the attendance drops, that changes. But the staff owns the product on the field. Will he get grumpy when attendance drops off, or would he be content to ride off into the sunset? I don't think he wants the president of the team to be his life's work. He's a guy who does a lot; this job has narrowed him down a lot. I've said it before, and it won't happen, but travel home during the bye should be cancelled. We got blown out by 2 of the worst teams in the league at home back-to-back. Though it might be far more prudent to let the players go home and re-shuffle the deck in-house this week. We need the coaching staff and front office to be shaped up first. Their equivalent of going back to 2 a days mid season for an underperforming team back in the day. Tear down and rebuild the playbooks and install packages, redistribute power and play-calling duties, reassess positionally, and prepare to make moves to improve. Otherwise, we might as well plan the fire sale before the trade deadline.

Its almost like we have no pass pro, and the worst playcalling on O in the league.... He and Ceresna are tied for the league lead in sacks. Both are on track to put up a number range we haven't seen in years.
