on top of that, none of our guys have experience learning or working in an rpo system. buck and suck learned from lapo, who imitated from game film. but none of them has the experience to understand the nuance of how to read the target, how to disguise the act of reading and blend it with normal plays, or even the mechanics of pull to release. at a pro level, rpo is really demanding. you have to recognize the slight difference in defender angles and exploit it quickly. There’s a great video on yt about peyton manning and how much work he put in to his mechanics on play action, stretch and other hand off techniques. Defences are better than ever at picking up cues from offense. It’s similar to how we never managed to evolve as a zone run, spread to run team beyond tight/izr. you go back to chip kellys years in oregon and soo many others and you see new wrinkles and evolution each year.

one game sure. the season or the last year and a half? no. compare best games to best games this year and still nope. -

vaj isn’t slightly above average. he hasn’t been that guy since he got to bc. We don’t though. on just 4 more attempts vaj has almost 500 more yards, 10.1 yards per vs 8.5, 105.9 qbr vs 98.5, 15/8 vs 13/11. Mop is likely between harris and vaj. -
we aren’t running that much rpo. suitor thinks every pa play is rpo, it isn’t. It’s pretty easy to identify when we do run rpo, because we aren’t very good at it. watch zachs head/shoulders. if he’s looking at brady, he isn’t reading any one on the D. when we run rpo, you can see him stare down the key play on D. usually you would read the edge and bootleg based on his angle or pursuit. For us, we’ve read sam/wil on medium short passes that are quick, and run what I call fake rpo. which is when you go to the huddle with a call change based on pre set alignment. Buck did a lot of this prior to last year to try and speed up getting the ball out. if the slot coverage (half, sam, wil) is too far off, zach throws a snag, hitch, screen etc. it’s a no signal check run from the snap. We used to try and do pin and pull rpos like that especially with strevy going back to lapo.

Sports attract hard-headed people; how else would sports or teams survive dark eras like the Reinbold, Kelly, etc? That said, a higher standard of conduct is to be expected from a professional in any field. Especially in a customer-facing entertainment field. And I don't think that is some crazy, unfair expectation. HCs don't need to be amiable; plenty of the most successful coaches have been grumpy at the best of times. But any HC in any pro sport needs to be able to grow and change with time in order to survive. -

Thing is, both those teams fell backwards into MOP level QBs. Like we did late in 19. But who would be available for that type of swing going forward? Zach was hit double-digit times in the LDC, which is the worst case for any QB. How much longer can he hold up under that kind of barrage? Even at that, his arm is just barely enough to get by on deep balls now. We have no margin for error with him now, and no foreseable escape plan at QB. Yep, I think both came as a forced evolution due to the fact that neither line is capable of bully ball. Hall used to be able to get pressure with 4 guys. it took a while to get the guys able to fit that need, and people hated his soft saggy coverage. But when we had enough guys to rotate through and get pressure with 5 or less his D flourished. On O, we went from a team that could run on any one, to a team that could run on most teams, to now a team that can only run on weak run Ds. I don't think full scale blows ups and lengthy rebuilds work out very well in the CFL. But in order to turn it around you 1, have to be willing to spend top dollars on other teams FAs, and 2, find your self with a QB who can win and has enough tread on the tires to play your window of compeitition. I don't think we have either of those factors right now. 100%. And Walters has shown a reluctance to put on his big boy pants with mos. -

I think that is a symptom of the greater problem. I'm a big fan of both those guys, but in general, since the 19 GC win, we've been losing more than we have brought in. That is across the board and from the roster up to management. From Kongbo, Hansen, Alford, Desjarlais, Stove, Lawler (twice), etc, over to Ryan, Ted, Cyril, Bourgoins, and more. We have hemorrhaged talent in all areas and brought in very little to replace the losses. Championship teams always go through that. But where prior to 19, we played an active role in FA trying to improve, we became complacent and expected that retaining as many of our pieces and developing guys internally would keep us at the top of the league. Problem is, many of our best moves in the mafia era are free agent scores from other teams. Combine that with the fact that our coach wants to ride the old guard into the dust, no matter who is backing them up and what they are capable of, and you have a massive collapse of what should've been the greatest dynasty in league history. The problem is Mos, but it is also Walters. And it's also Wade for not prevent the other 2 from messing up so badly. They need to skip blame (which they would't consider any way) and go right into root cause and repair. Whose replacement makes you better off, today and in the future? Who is easier to replace, and can either be recovered to be top tier in their jobs here again? But I don't think anyone involved is willing to have that conversation yet. It might not even end up being one; it might be Wade getting called into a BOG meeting and getting the choice of who goes. As others have pointed out, the Ham game after the BJB will be a big game for us. 3-5 in our last 8 games. if we win 1 of the next 2, bc/edmonton likely passes us for the last play off spot in the west / the cross over. After that, we had Ham, Ssk, and Mtl, which will all be tough win,s plus ott in ot,t which is always hard for us. The 1 remaining game, vs edm on the road, might not be a freebie either. With 7 games left, 4 wins likely gaurentees the play offs. 3 wins, if we beat edmonton likely puts us in. But in that case, we need toronto to strugle down the stretch. -
3 turds plus ch coaching never fails to fail

he hasn’t disappeared, he’s consistently gaining more per punt return than the rest of the leagues returners. he hasn’t had an explosive big return, but that’s never sustainable. I look forward to seeing what vaval does when he takes a step forward in development. Right now, i’d rather start houston and use vaval as the dime and both return jobs, but we are pretty set on logan unfortunately. -

vaval has been better much of the year than grant in both pr and kr. he had a couple games with rookie brain, and a bobble or two but grant hasn’t been healthy the whole year and has had struggles him self with handles. since the tds, vaval has still been one of the best pr in the league. they only took kr duties off him because he’s starting at cb, as a rookie no less. Sky is the limit for vaval, who has also had solid stints at db. The only thing grant has on vaval is reputation and age. -

we keep drafted high upside guys to play low value spots and don’t move them up unless absolutely forced. -

thats true, but he also isn’t able to snipe a bunch of deep shots on frozen ropes any more either. he has to run and jump into a 30-40 yarder now to get it just deep enough to come back on. despite his tendencies, he also isn’t quick enough to get out deep shots that are open. but that’s how zach is as well. he’s not a guy who is fast to get the ball out. i like the call, with a different qb. i mean we did bring in some guys, and mitchell has done well when we go or him. logan doesn’t look close to 100%. shouldn’t be playing imo. 100% the right call. problem is that play call gave us 1 viable target short of completely blown coverage. that route started way to far away from the line. he broke and barely had any room left. you want to drag that route, put the db in trail position and get the ball out as quick as you can to spot and let the wr run it down. if a db makes an insane play or the wr knocks the ball up and the db catches it he doesn’t have any thing to work with. At that, you should have a crosser from the back side slot, and a deep fade to the corner so you got other places you can toss it off the wrs break and have a decent chance. maybe if you had some strong tail wind you think castillo can smoke a kick for a single that’s hard to field. but that would be a bad move vs going for two. it shouldn’t be hard to execute a passing play to convert a 2 -

considering our system, the wrs not working well with zach, how frequently he was hit last night and the fact we couldn’t and didn’t try to run, zach did every thing and more you could ask. Yes his arm is significantly reduced from what it was, and his tendency to hold it too long hurts us some times. but he did what you need to do to win considering the position he was in. Oc, then kola, then wrs. that’s the hierarchy of problems on our O imo. after that it’s qb depth. thing is, a better oc could have our wrs atleast working back to zach or playing scramble rules properly, and put guys in better position to be used. If you fire hogan tomorrow and promote jackson, bench kola, and have a real battle for the starting wr spots, i think you see our offence improve drastically and quickly. -

we both tried to lose the game, we just out worked the riders at losing. if they adjust, it’s gonna be ugly though barely got the snap off -
1 hogan, fire his ass 2 mos, mr roster management 3 interior ol, bad game all around. ch so many to pick from, but 5 carries for brady honorable mentions, zach, kev, demski, lawson, kyrie. Dishonorable mentions, nichols, jones, wallace, neuf, kola, thomas, wj, the refs, the entire coaching staff Crunch of the game, cadwallader on the kick cover that was nearly a S. block of the game, n/a because we didn’t block any one.
