I wouldn't. I like ford as a back up, I'm doubtfull he will ever be more than a good back up though. At that, I'd have him as an ideal QB3.

We should make a pr claim on Les maruo, maybe we could send jjones in a limo to pick him up

Our WRs aren’t doing well in scramble drill no matter who is at qb. Hes buying as much time as you get on a roll out. But we have none of what we used to get from schoen breaking off routes and going in the right direction. Pa gets the D moving one way and gives the WRs a chance to time a break for easy separation and it’s an easy toss to a db stretching the field side to side. -

Still 8 runs in 2 years of 20 or more. That also accounts for 204 of his 305 carries. If we gave him more usage as a runner, with better-designed run plays, I think he would do a lot better. He isn't an option runner and never has been. I don't think running option helps him. I've seen him struggle to make the right read and clean hand-offs. As have all our QBs, we might not have the right people to coach run option or maybe we just need a lot more practice. Read options for QB runs take a lot to get working smoothly. RPOs are demanding and massive time investments. He is 30 now, though, and with a couple of injuries. I don't think in general its a great idea to target runs to the secondary with qbs, but especially not at that age plus. I think the key to succesful designed QB runs up here is aiming for the side line, or delays into seams then sliding early once past the first down marker. For strevy, I think we need more play action sprint outs. RPO instead of double option runs. Put him in a spot where he throws an easy pass to a few crossers, has the back as a check down, and if the D overpursues, he can hit a cutback lane for a run. Also, a pin and pull type play with out a hand off option, primarily reading a WR and his gap for a quick screen, with a QB power option if the D overextends again. You can work back in a shovel-type play or release pass to the RB. This would have to be offset by running pin and pull handing off and throwing it. Wide zone and outside zone run schemes also leave more open for a mobile QB. tite and inside zone run schemes for running qbs only work well with twitchy make you miss in space qbs. -
I mean, they could dress bailey as a back up DE, and save a DI. But we wouldn't rotate him, and we waste the DI anyway. We could also dress cobb, who gives us more of a WR as a back up WR, and a back up KR/Primary with case just on off. We are just lucky it isn't Schmekel going in so we can start 2 ni DTs LOL

He's never been a home run-hitting big run guy. His career YPC is 4.9, and his longest each year to date is 29, 38, 27 and 10 yards. Which isnt too far off zachs first few years in the league. Even Fajardo has 1 30+ yard run in his career. Despite the field size, we don't see monster qb runs to often up here. The nature of defences takes away those lanes and adds depth layers vs the NFL. Where as if Lamar jackson out runs the pursuit angle and beats one guy hes gone for 40 yards and a td. Strevy was also used under buck and plop like a FB. The amount of designed runs he had that where counter, wide, outside, off tackle etc, very few out side of the odd off guard short yardage push. -

Yeah I don’t think we could or would ever. Feels like we are destined to struggle sooner than later at qb. With out the odd flashes of 350 yards 4 tds and cruise control in the late 3rd. I am hopeful, strevy will step up as a starter when the time comes. I look forward to seeing him in cfl action. I expect him to be a year plus behind the average us arm. with Jackson I think he could put up numbers. I like him less than Faj between the ears. And I think you need a great D to win consistently with him. -

Who do you think gives us a better chance to win, concussed zach, strevy, mbt, masoli, or faj? I think MBT reuniting with Jackson gives us the best chance to put up stats, but I think faj might give us a better chance to win. Pretty sad. -

It's a gamble for sure. I think the biggest thing in favor of him ending up here this year is that the Lions have a medium-term injury to their starting RT, and because of that, picked up 2 guys who are firmly 1/2. Better recovery than expected could mean he gets pushed out. The NFL also expects athletic and physical outliers. If a guy doesn't crack playing quickly enough in his career, he ends up surrounded by other outliers who are younger. Based on his play in PS and the bit I saw in OTAs, he deserves to be playing on an AR in the NFL. You also don't get nearly as much from a 2nd year on a PR as you do from a first. Linemen especially hit a point of diminishing returns quickly on PRs. A minor hitch in his health probably ends up with him being replaced. That said, with the size of NFL PRs, and importance of Ts, he could well get a look else where. -
Maybe he's happy enough to cash that big fat cheque while doing nothing.

Zach calls his concussion and history an upper-body injury and history lol. Basically confirmed it in the podcast, says he is fine but that hit looked nasty. I could see him dressing this week as a back up again but it'd be crazy to stick him back in this week.

The gap between top players and average isn't what you'd think. The coaching gap is much wider. For instance, the talent gap we had in our favor in the last two GCs, plus the 01 gc was pretty good. But the coaching gap really slapped us around. You can have a bit of a talent gap at some spots, or a coaching gap. You certainly can not afford to have both in pro sports. -

That’s not even the question. The question is how and what do you watch? Are you watching the line play, are you watching the coverage reading the play as it develops, or are you following the ball and looking at the qb? Watching football and following the qb/ball with your eyes is like driving on a scenic road, and staring at the head of the person in the seat beside you. I watch line play in general because it’s what I understand the best, and up here we don’t get great angles in general. And tbh passing concepts are not terribly interesting up here. Oh it’s flood to the field side again. Oh it’s dagger in the boundary. -

Some people can’t see the Forrest from the trees so they believe no one else can either. Can’t talk people like that out of their position with logic, because they didn’t get to it by logic. Gio is the most impressive ol prospect in the cfl draft, and out of the Canadian college system in 20ish years. Literally his only knock in the nfl is, he played his ball up here before going pro. If he had played a decent career at Alabama, he’d a been a top 5-10 nfl pick. He’s 6’7 350+, with a 90th percentile athletic testing in run and jump drills, by nfl ol standards. His 10 yard splits are faster than some of our skilled position imports. Hes more athletic than Dobson, significantly taller, jacked and long arms. Hes built like a madden custom character. Dobson struggled to stay explosive and powerful in his frame as he dropped weight. Gio is stronger and more explosive in a build that doesn’t need to drop a pound. Hes also a tackle in the cfl. Gabe Wallace has some potential to be a rt. Gio is a tackle day one. He arrives here, he’s the best ol to land here since desjarlais. Import or Canadian. In football teams cover tall long Tackles for their potential to play with great bend and leverage, manu is already there. The nastiness we scout first and foremost in ol? That we draft inspite of the rest of the tool box? He’s got that too. If manu was 6’1, and 310 he’d still be a top pick in the CFL draft. If he wasn’t nasty and have the high quality footwork he has, he’d still be a first round talent. The only reason we got his rights is he had soo much going for him he was selected in the 4th round of the nfl draft. Know who else was drafted that high in the nfl on the bombers? No one. He’s a bigger stronger leaner more explosive vanterpool/randolph. Any one who wants to see for them self, skip his college tape and watch him manhandle nfl players in ps with the lions. Lots of film available it’s extremely impressive. -

Yeah. If he comes up, I think you need to dress him immediately. That’s a sick 6th ol, at worst. Some one probably try to scoop him on the pr too. -

Not a FIFO guy. could be. Lions have 4 lts, he’s pencilled in no3 with an injury to decker who likely will be back in mid to late September. Could be any where from Ar to gone. Skipper likely starts, if jamarco jones backs him up manu is on the out side looking in. -

Ellsbury has retired making room for McLeod. Which means we don’t have a developmental/back up imp ol any more. Vanterpool is pressed into action currently, but we should be looking for another with nfl cuts. But our pr is at its limit. So likely some clearing out to happen soon. 1 or maybe 2 easy cuts thats it. Though if zach is out chase could come up but we should bring in some one with experience. -
Looking at what Qbs are locked up right now, it will be difficult to be in a better place in 2 years after just mediocrity.

On D, the WJ effect. Once a positive, when supported by guys from Kongbo, to ba and biggie, now is likely a negative. He's taken some bad penalties this year, just undisciplined stuff. If the leader on D is getting away with that, no one else can be held to a higher standard.

It's changed a lot, that's for sure. The coaching cap has hurt every team's ability to scout within the league, and has niche scouts in the US. We have 5 guys now who cover scouting. The GM, AGM, and 3 DOPPs. 1 DOPP and Walters heavily cover Canada. Mac has a territory; Jauch and Brock are left with the rest of the continental US and CFL. Walters fills a bit of everything, but also has all the other GM roles to do. Mac covers a fairly small geographic region, though the most dense and important. But that leaves a massive expanse of land for Jauch and Brock to cover. Hamilton has a bunch of non-coaching cap executives working for the organization and stadium to enable their cap counters to do more with scouting. They could do even more with it, but Ted just got them set up. I wouldn't be surprised to see more scout guys and fewer logistical guys in the coming years. I think Cyril was a much bigger piece of the WR talent surge we saw briefly. I think Ted was the DL guy though. -

Yeah, it's an ok move, but with moves like this we need to bring in another guy then be quick to move on from guys in a week or two and cycle till we find something. -

Like his productivity, even though it was D2. I worry about the reliability and durability of guys who play 2-3 years and catch 30-50 passes. Even less than 100 is not a lot in game success. I also like his hands. Looks like hes catching everything with hands extended and not body catching. Solid size as well. He listed 6'3 200 in college, but his pro day was 6'1 and 194. Don't so much like his route running / film and athleticism. I don't see much in his get-off, breaks, or his trade craft in beating DBs. He looks to lean on his superior athletic ability vs D2, and his tremendous hands. He's a decent athlete, 4.54 40, 33" vert, 10' broad, 4.22 SS, 7.09 3 cone. That's OK, speed numbers and slightly better Agility. But on his game film, he's just walking away from guys, but doesn't look explosive or like he has a great top gear. He runs like he's 225-230, but plays like he's a low 4.3 guy. The upside: He could really benefit from the waggle if he figures it out quickly. He could also fit our scheme really well. Zach loves guys like him. He looks like a small-school, less polished Kenny Lawler, without the circus catch ability. If Kenny is a 10/10 in hands, McLeod is maybe 8/10. Or a less polished, less athletic Schoen. For his upside any way, his down side is a bigger version of McKnight. -
IMO a lot of the hc and gm changes are full on rebuilds after collapse. Hamilton is the predominant current case to look at. Dickenson moved up and of course kept him self as hc, boy that wouldn’t be a fix here lol. Ringmaiden moved up last year and brought in Buck this year. I don’t think we need to emulate other teams in doing this though. Outliers work too, like the Steelers never firing hcs. Danny Mac interviewed for the Hamilton job. If he’s interested in the life style change of living up here full time I’d consider promoting him from with in. Sunderland could be a candidate as well though far from top of my list. Having Deslauriers and Gulakow is a big help for supporting gms too. You have a guy who knows the Canadians scouting and draft extremely well and a guy who can do day to day football ops stuff and logistics.

That would make sense. Seemed like he just evaporated at some point. What happened to in game injury updates? Only happens occasionally for qb/wr/rb who are stars now it seems.
