Btw, Hodge says Lawson is making around 135k.
I don’t mind him making that - this is his year to take the job.

I made no such claim.
You implied that people are going to be happier losing with Brady on the team vs losing with him on another roster.
This would be an extremely small part of the ticket buyers. You shouldn’t be catering to this segment of the fan base - that’s what it boils down to.

No risk? What if they don't win and the running game sucks? What if they're not winning because the running game sucks?
There is most definitely risk involved.
This is just a strange line of thinking to me.
If they’re not winning and he’s here is that a risk?

Betts being one of them who wants to be paid 300k....And be highest paid Canadian in league
Good luck there buddy
What’s that leave for the other 8 DEs they need on the roster to keep him fresh?

Part of my RB requirements is that they are a good RB, so I'll take a pass on Morrow.
I’m more concerned about blocking in the pass game than catching passes.

I don’t think any of these guys really add much as blockers.
That is my concern.

Carey's never really been a full time player either nor a threat in the pass game at all for anyone but his QB. And he's 32.
So in avoiding paying the guy that is we might end up paying the same amount to use an extra roster spot for a couple guys, probably 1 vet and 1 rookie deal guy, to do the job plus Augustine.
I think it circles back to Oliviera.
There is Jamal Morrow too if you really want a guy catching passes.

I'd be going for Whitehead at just over Bane money instead of Schoen at Lawler money. We have Lawler. We have Demski. We have Woli. Whitehead is super versatile and could fit back in here very well. Then you have a training camp battle for the last spot.
I’d be upset with this. Whitehead can’t stay healthy and he has lot a step.

Brady being local is a very big component of why he is loved here. He's also a hell of a player and a good human being.
Just saying the negotiations pose a risk to the Bomber brand. And that's all I am saying.
We all love Brady. He’s a great player.
I don’t think it is a risk to the brand to anyone that actually pays money to keep the lights on.

Ouellette is a black hole in the passing game though. He was subbed out a ton. He's not a guy that can be the every down only back on a team. I have no interest in him much past average salary range plus some incentives for production and awards etc.
We're a markedly worse team with Ouellette. I'd rather spend that money on receivers and try out some other options at running back. I think Ouellette is actually going to take a harder fall on his contract expectations than Oliviera. Oliviera could get 200 including some incentives.
Fair - but he is such a strong runner. It is enticing.
Carey does both.

Ouellette or Carey is a perfect fit here.
Just now, Wideleft said:I can count all the Grey Cups Milt Stegall won on my missing toe. He even held himself out for more money on occasion.
The Bombers are still making money selling uni's with 85 on the back.
He wasn’t local - so it sounds like it doesn’t matter where they’re from.

Then fans will still have a very popular local talent to cheer for.
I'm not saying sign him for what he's asking - just saying there IS a risk to letting him go.
Most fans aren't as sophisticated as this MENSA-certified community - they just like getting drunk and cheering for the guy they like. And winning.
I don’t think people are going to Bomber games because Brady is from here and saves dogs in any real significant numbers.
We all love Brady and the work he does - but those people are not paying the bills.
We also have a star named Nic Demski - so we can all still cheer for him.

Works for me.

Winning cures everything, but if the Bombers start losing and Brady's replacement sucks....
I'm old enough to remember losing seasons where people complained we didn't have any locals.
What if Brady stays and the Bombers start losing?

FYI - saw the renovated Bomber Store at PAS.
It looks good and flows a lot better. The cashiers and the ticket centre have been moved out of the way.

Again - this team sets maximums they are willing to spend per position group. If a salary doesn’t fit in that budget it isn’t happening- and that number sure as **** is not happening.

I think Wade might disagree with your viewpoint, his goal is to fill the stadium and sell merchandise, and to that end having a couple of local stars certainly helps.
The team wins the stadium will be full. Having locals is a bonus.

Don't know if this is true or not but heard on the Ray and Benny Podcast that Andrew Harris made $235k at his peak, which would have been around 2019. Could be these are the numbers Brady is basing his ask on. Also Milt advising Brady to stay in Wpg. to take advantage of the outside football earnings that will be much more lucrative than any money he can make elsewhere.
He was basically the entire offence going into 2019.
I doubt it was that big a number - but even if it was - that’s not where we are anymore.

I'm curious how much, if at all, the Bombers worry about the optics of letting a local kid who's involved in charities, etc, go elsewhere.... there's a lot of dumb people who don't necessarily understand the dollars and cents of it all, and just see the Bombers not willing to bring him back. I know we all don't really care about that, but I'm curious how much the Bombers think about it from a PR standpoint...
I think most people would be fine with it.
If people care about that more than the success of the team - they probably aren’t paying to go to games or buying merchandise anyway.

250k for a RB...... good gravy. How far we've come......
I don’t think anyone is going that far. 😂
8 minutes ago, Booch said:180k...Max...Anything more just isnt worth it when you can go import at the position...he's also a back he needs a lot of touches....and won't give u that homerun strike fro 40....50 yards out
That’s about where’d I’d stop.
This isn’t Harris where he was almost the entire offence. He is part of the offence.
