Get kongbo back and ford. Tons of versatility.

Apparently naylor says Brady wanted 300k. And came down to 250.
If it’s true, which isn’t far off the numbers every one was thinking he’d ask, It makes sense why a deal isn’t done. If no one else grabs him at 250 in the first week I actually like our chances of getting a reasonable 200k ish with incentives included.
I can see some one giving him 250k possibly though.

If he wants $200 I’d let him walk - let alone $250 to $300.

idk it’s early to tell. Our ol is extremely up in the air with age and contracts.
Ott has a really good qb stable too with brown crum Adams pigrome and masoli. That’s gonna be a hell of a tc battle, though I expect some one to be cut early.

I’m not sure how we got to a point where Dru Brown is anywhere near as reliably good as Collaros. It is debatable whether Masoli will be ready to play a snap this year.

Potential doesn’t out rank proven. I’ll go with our guys and hope Barriere can show something to stick around.

    OL has  :

    Bryant and Richmond at Tackle

    Neufeld; Eli; Dobson at Guard

    Kolankowski and Eli at Centre

Without doing anything else that is the best starting six in the league.

I’m good with what is taking place in those areas.

But the reality of it is that none of this is how it works.

It’s all so much more fluid than that. You have guys on rookie scale deals, you have guys on American “entry level” deals … I’m not going to quote exact numbers because I think that’s a fools errand but it’s pretty clear the overall perception that we have as fans is way off. I’ve seen that in this thread alone.

For example, how many people in here know that Johnny Augustine had a higher maximum earnings than Brady last year? For as good as our offensive line is, how many people in here are aware that we spend less on it than almost any team in the league? Stan was the only guy in the top 20 last year for earnings and he certainly didn’t get a raise this year. We don’t pay defensive backs either, only one of them made upwards of 100k last year. Lots around 90k but only BA was six figures.

And not a dime of it counted on the cap so who cares

This is what I am saying. Paying $140k for a vet NI OL  that has shown to be competent- if not near the top at his position (at least last year) is really nothing to be upset about.

On top of that - It will not have any impact on their offer to Brady or Dalton.

If Eli can’t come in and win the spot it is on him. Nobody is holding him back.

In this situation Eli was here first.  So I'm not sure the "vet" got the favoritism.

Eli has never beat out anyone for a job here.  Not Couture, not Speller, not Desjarlais, not Gray, not Neufeld, not Kolankowski.  Could be a mass conspiracy against him I guess.

He'll probably get another chance both interior and RT this year.

I don’t think it is a conspiracy against a guy with a three year contract - and I know you don’t either.

They want him to be the starter -  I’m sure.

whenever Eli was in last year, he looked REALLY good.... as Dave mentioned, he was a road grader. And as Booch has talked about several times, Eli was a highly touted NCAA prospect that is a natural C. Koala doesn't have anywhere near the pedigree. Now that's not to say that Koala hasn't developed, but I just have a hard time believing that Eli isn't the guy who should be starting at C for us in 2024... if we lose either Yosh or Gray or both, then maybe Koala has to be a G or the 6th guy....

If he is an unstoppable force he will play.

Depends on his role I guess. Does a team want to pay north of 170k for a back-up?  Kolo making 140k as a starter will not help him any, it sets a low bar for teams to use as a comparable.  There are teams (western teams in Green in particular) that like to do dumb things so they could certainly give him a bad contract.

But that is what you are up against negotiating a salary - other people paying more than what they may be worth. There are more examples of overpaying in free agency than in re-signing ahead of free agency. Pretty confident in that.

$140k is not a big salary for a competent starting NI OL.

Bladek was also a healthy scratch for the last two-thirds of the season so I don't think 200k is realistic again this year for someone who wasn't even good enough to dress as a back-up.

We will circle back to this when he signs. It won’t be close to $140k.

was gonna say...he won't get anywhere near that this time around..

It will be closer to that than it is $140k

The issue isn’t “can we afford Brady”, the issue is “is it worth paying Brady”

People are all up in arms about the Kolonscopy contract, but Demski just lowered his cap hit, we’re moving on from Jeffcoat, we’re moving on from a LOT of our special teams guys who were on their second/third deals making bigger money. We’ve got lots of money to spend.

    Exactly.

If that the case I'd have given Bladek that money....serves more use than Kolo

He made $200k last year. Zero chance he is signing for $140k.

    Not even close.

In the same way Damian Jackson can play DE... ie. Not well.

Well Eli earned a starters spot, lost it, and has not got it back.

This fall back on “MOS just falls in love with guys for no reason” as a mantra can’t  be used in every case.

140k is 6th OL money unless you go rookie at 6th. For a starting OC that is cheap.

    Some see it …some don’t.

There’s always one or 2 who are convinced they know more than the ppl who see them everyday.  Between you and me ;) there’s definitely one guy like that on here and to be honest it gets annoying reading some of his posts. Just believes he knows more. Like Mike years ago but Mike doesn’t do that anymore. The other guy does tho.

People get stuck in opinions on players (myself included) but the reality is these guys are going to typically have good and below average stretches throughout the year - minus a guy like Big Stan (historically) who is maybe the best OL to ever play.

Consistency is what separates the average guy from the elite stars. Doesn’t mean the average to above average guys suck.

  11. Just now, Booch said:

    Ouch....

he can play 2 sure....but would be a horrible undersized guard and eaten alive....and he's barely an average center....and if he is to be the 6th guy a poor choice there too...we can do so much better with that 140k

I don’t see much out there appreciably better. The top tier NI guards probably make 40k more than that and can’t play Centre.

He isn’t as bad as he gets portrayed here. Not even close.

I've changed my mind on Kolo. I have decided that Walters plan is that he drafts a stud OL prospect who becomes our 6th OL, while Eli beats out Kolo and then Kolo is dealt for draft capital. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. 😉

It is sort of sketch to sign a guy with an eye towards trading him before he gets to FA and can pick the place he wants to go.

I guess if you were up front with him - then it is all good. You don’t want guys afraid to commit.
