  1. I think it's more about having Mason healthy and getting him in some games sooner than later. Hutchinson played well in his two games with the Jets but the writing was on the wall once Mason was activated from the IR.
  2. What money did the league pay to do that? IIRC, then NHL President John Ziegler said the BoG voted and the league took control of the St. Louis Blues franchise from Ralston Purina Co. in the hopes of finding an owner who wouldn't just relocate the franchise. Back then as it is now, relocating a franchise is a last resort once all other avenues have been exhausted. And FWIW, had Saskatoon been awarded a relocation team, it wouldn't have survived the 90s and would've suffered the same fate as the Nordiques and the Jets 1.0 did. And it would be one more round in the "NHL hates Canada" barrel.
  3. You forgot one: money. The ownership group can't afford expansion, which leaves them waiting for a team to relocate. It's no different than what TNSE did: built the arena and be patient. As for Mosaic 2.0 hosting an outdoor NHL game, the only way I see that working is if it's highly incentivized for whatever team decides to give up a home game.
  4. Looks like a few writers over at CFL.ca got into a bag of Tide Pods recently: https://www.cfl.ca/2018/03/06/stamps-take-top-spot-nissan-titan-post-free-agency-power-rankings/
  5. Laine named second star: http://illegalcurve.com/2018/03/05/winnipeg-jets-patrik-laine-named-nhls-second-star-of-the-week/
  6. Agreed. No way the Jets re-sign him with Mason's contract and Hellebuyck no doubt getting re-upped.
  7. The likelihood of him finishing third all-time is pretty damned good. 14 more goals to tie Hawerchuk is a tall order but on his current pace, it's possible.

  10. Boy, is that Ehlers - Stastny - Laine line a blast to watch.
  11. Mason just played here last night. No way he's going to fly out to Raleigh today and then playlater tonight. If anything, Hutchinson starts tonight for Hellebuyck to rest.
  12. Speaking of decrepit arenas, the situation in Calgary isn't getting any better: https://www.tsn.ca/bettman-flames-financial-situation-continues-to-deteriorate-due-to-arena-1.1016026
  13. Not exclusively. The Bombers have been a pretty good team for two straight seasons and IGF has still had quite a lot of empty seats during that time. Knock IGF's capacity to ~30K and it'd look a lot fuller. BellMTS Place is appropriately sized for the city its serves, IMO. Maybe 16K could've been doable but then you'd have to consider how that would affect an already snug concourse.
  14. He was due a bonus prior to being released by the Alouettes in Feb. 2016: http://montrealgazette.com/sports/football/cfl/montreal-alouettes/alouettes-cut-ties-with-middle-linebacker-henoc-muamba Back then, however, the NFL window was still open: He eventually signed with the Dallas Cowboys but that wasn't until the end of July 2016: https://www.sportsnet.ca/football/nfl/canadian-linebacker-henoc-muamba-signs-nfl-deal-cowboys/ The NFL is no longer an option for Muamba this time around.
  15. Like I said, I'll be the last person to defend Trudeau or his actions. This particular instance with India is pretty pitiful, to be honest. However, all she does is fixate on him and vilify everything he does, hence my comment comparing her to Malkin. Malcolm's columns are in the Sun almost daily and it's pretty much the same narrative in every single one. It must be tiring to be so blindly biased, is all. That's why I concluded with the despising hyper-partisan politics.
  16. Maintenance day? He's probably gassed with how much playing time he's had the last 5-6 weeks. Fatigue sure looked like a factor in the final frame last night.
  17. The hate boner she has for Trudeau is truly remarkable. I'll be the last person to defend our PM but this obsession of hers is legitimately insane. Canada's version of Michelle Malkin, IMO. Have I mentioned lately how much I despise hyper-partisan politics?
  18. Between that pointless nonsense and this new "budget," it's been a rough start to 2018 for the Liberals in Ottawa. Those bozos continue to do themselves no favours, which is strange considering how self-serving they are.
  19. I could see Winnipeg hosting a draft once True North Square has been completed.
