  1. Harris a great pick and a Winnipeg native. Hebert an ex Bomber whom we should have signed on return to the CFL,,,,thank Kelly for that! Hopefully Harfris wins and Hebert a close second
  2. I didn't expect a personal attack on this topic. The reality is Lapo has been an OC with the Bomber in the past. He took over Rick Worman's offense and bathed in the adulations of its success his first year. After that, that offense went down the tubs and he was subsequently was fired 2 years later. He was rehired with Sask I believe and to his credit won a grey cup with them however the team that won the grey cup was not offensive orientated but rather defensive orientated. I'll let you read into that what you will. He was then HC of the Bombers and that resulted in failure, which I'm sure you are aware of as you are certainly old enough to remember that. He was subsequently fired from that job because our team was terrible, to say the least and our offense was.......I'll let you fill in the blanks. He then took on the TSN gig which was perhaps the biggest and best job he had ever held. He had no defense to counter his assertions that this or that offense was superior. He also indicated that he had learned from his mistakes by going south to learn from the souther OC coordinators with little or no confirmation of the same. Actually the confirmation comes from this season with the Bombers his first since his last firing! What have we learned, not him. First he doesn't use his most dynamic offensive weapon nearly enough. Second he has not learned that in order to be successful you have to stretch the defense so that the run game and the short passing game can be effective. Third he hasn't learned that time of possession is critical to the other 1/3 of the team.....defense. The longer the offense is on the field the less the defense is resulting in better field possession and a more aggressive defense. And forth the better the offense plays the better the whole team plays......better field possession....less reliance on a 50 yard field goal kickerKI for points....and less opportunity for the other team to generate momentum. It is really a simple equation and yet Lapo and all his hip from TSN "coach's playbook" has resulted in nothing learned, nothing gained, same story. I am really sorry to say this but reality is reality. Simply look at the stats shown and the team record to date. I'm really sorry if I offend any one with my comments however I thought this board was one where one could comment freely without any personal attacks. I'm sorry to say I'm not sure that is the case. I am a Bomber fan, have been for some time although honestly have lost a lot of heart lately because of several issues with the Bombers but that is not the discussion here; it is merely about the well being of the team and those who comment freely (?) about it. Hopefully we can continue to voice our opinions without retribution or attack. Good luck to the Bombers this weekend. Hopefully they will do well and win in BC. My gut says not but my heart says yes.
  3. Sorry to say this but I said when they hired him that he is not what Bomber fans want or need. Yes we made the playoffs but can you honestly say we did that because of the offense???? Look at the stats. Unfortunately he has learned little from his stint with TSN and his supposed trips south to pick the brains of OC's down there. BUT we are in the playoffs soon to be dispatched after the BC game and will do it all again next year with the same coaching staff. My apologies if I offend anyone but it is what it is. We need a new thinker for an OC not a retread and certainly not any of the current assistant coaches. Where and who I simply don't know but it is a change we need. If you look around we are using retreads as coaches where other teams are using retired players with a perchance to coach. Look at Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa, Hamilton and Toronto. While some flourish and other flounder they are not as bad or at least the same as we are.
  4. MOS yet again proved his inability to think not only for his players but also the team long term. I say that for a few reasons; 1. he kept Nichols in far too long. If he is to the person who will take us to the Grey Cup he should have been out of there end of the 3rd quarter. Glen is a very capable back up. 2. He takes out Dressler and Harris within what was it 6 yards and 26 yards of 1000yd seasons and then re inserts Dressler after he has gone through concussion protocol to get his 6 yard catch; yet keep Harris out, a Winnipeg boy to boot, even though he is running well. Some here say he may have been nicked OK let's say he was then please explain to me why he put him in on the last play of the game! That is simply throwing dirt in Harris' face no wonder he looked p...... on the sidelines. We had three players looking for milestones in this game; Medlock, an non Canadian, Dressler a non Canadian and Harris not only a Canadian but a Winnipeg boy and who gets it..... not the Canadian Winnipeg boy. Now some will say that its on Lapo and they may very well be correct but unfortunately the buck stops with the head coach and if he is worth anything he would have known about these milestones and when to opportunities arose I believe he should have suggested to Lapo that they try to get it for Harris. What was it 10 all game????? Give me a break! Oh well we will see what happens now and what other great coaching moves this guys makes. I must admit even at 11-8 I'm still not a fan.
  5. I simply think that when someone is struggling taking them out so they get a better perspective from the sidelines does not harm. It may perhaps give the team a boost (different look); it gives the struggling player a breather so they can regroup; and it keeps their confidence instead of destroying it. Happens in almost every team sport why would it not work in football. And in fact in BC they did it; they did it in Ottawa, have done it in Hamilton and Toronto and if I am not mistaken it happened in Calgary early in the season and certainly happened there when Huffnagel was coach. Don't see the harm.
  6. I have been reflecting back on last game and while I understand that the whole team did not play well it seemed to me that the QB, one position that can be "controlled" to a degree, is one that he has complete control over. If this is the case then with having a proven "starter" and more than capable back up in Glenn standing on the sidelines, why was it that MOS did not insert him into the game when it was obvious to everyone, except him, that Nichols was struggling mightily and needed be taken out for not only the teams sake but also for his confidence! This is not the first time MOS has shown his stubbornness can cost us games; I need only refer to the start of the season and wonder how many games we may have won had he pulled Willy or started Nichols in his place. Then there are the DBs who supposedly won the starting jobs from training camp and were terrible in coverage only to be replaced when injuries dictated that was the case. Then we go on a 7 game winning streak with multiple games with at least 4 take aways per game or more. Slowly those originals have been inserted in the line up once again, save for Harris, and now we seem not to be able to cover a table! My point is merely, a good coach needs to know when to pull players during games to stop the bleeding while at the same time give the player a breather and different view of the proceedings. To merely keep them in to "let them work it out" is not a function of good coaching. If the ability level of the team is supposed to be a close as they state, then substitutions should be made freely. That does several positives while keeping a non performer in the game does much damage. The Bombers lost control of their own destiny for several reasons; the players were not and should have been ready to play this important game; the game plan to stop the Ottawa offense was poor, the offensive game plan was poor and of course so was the execution, and ultimately the coaching staff did not prepare this team to the level it needed. And finally bad decisions on behalf of the head coach sealed the deal. Now it is only one game but the consistent stubbornness of MOS in my mind will ultimately destroy any chances this team has of winning any play off games let alone get to the Grey Cup. Curious to see others viewpoints on this.
  7. thanks for the help fellows. My tsngo won't work as my internet is on vacation mode and apparently this shuts down tsngo. By the time I was able to get streaming thanks to throw long banatyne I had lost interest. But will use it next week and hopefully it will be a different game. We need an explosive offense not some rinkie dink one. It hasn't served us well all year, our saving grace was the defense and turnovers. Time will tell. Thanks again for the help
  8. yup in Sask they didn't catch many passes across the middle and short mainly long outs or slants. So why now????
  9. does anyone know where I can live stream this game? I am in Arizona with my mts account on vacation stop. Can't find any streaming need help please
  10. OK reverse the order PVR the Bomber game, go to the Jets game and you have the comfort of watching both in the warm confines of the arena and your home. Still simple I think
  11. no conflict; PVR the Jets game watch the Bombers. Easy
  12. I thought Bolden and Sellers were cut because of drug problems not a cancer but stand to be corrected. I do believe Sellers went on to become a really good backfield partner for Washington where he played out his career.
  13. I believe they missed the boat on not naming Jack Jacobs for sure. He was the instrument behind the building of the new stadium (old stadium at Polo Park). He along with the like of Fritzy Hansen, Charlie Shepard, Bud Tinsley to name a few were the players who were CFL all stars during the golden years of the Bombers. While Doug was a great player these guys had notoriety that in my mind surpassed his by a lot. Oh well maybe in time they will be honoured meanwhile congrats to Doug.
  14. keep them away, they have issues that the Bombers do not need! The receiving core they have is a good one. Give it a chance to come together. How many games have the #1 guys played together and I'm including Denmark in that #1 unit? Not many. Let's see what happens. Should they determine in the off season they need more height or muscle or talent, whatever, then look for it in the off season.
  15. Not a Jones fan at all but give credit where credit is due; he gutted the team at the beginning, brought in a bunch of young players, committed to them, found some castoffs that he could use and let them work together taking the heat for the losing streak. Now they are starting to gel and look what is happening, they are winning. Now before you all get upset I realize it was Ottawa BUT they are still the best team or at least have the best record in the East so that will certainly put an asterisk beside them BUT they are winning! We play Ottawa last two games. Hopefully we will win those games to validate the quality of team we have. Sask can't catch us so there is not concern this season BUT it is surprising that they turned it around in less than one season and it took us how long??? Hopefully we will continue to build in the off season for next year. Meanwhile let's concentrate on this year and the remaining three games.
  16. Bottom line is refs miss calls every game sometimes they are for and sometimes against you. This time it happened to be for us. Bigger concern is the last three games our defence has been unable to stop the opposition in the 4th quarter when they needed to; loss to Calgary with 24 seconds and 36 yards togetinto filed goal range; Edmonton what with less than two mins to go needed a stop to give us one last chance; and yesterday couldn't stop BC until the very last second and only because of a marvellous play by an injured Moe Leggett to be followed up by whatever you want to call it, pay back, missed call, good luck whatever were we able to squeeze out a win. Something has to be done with this defence period no if ands or buts
  17. couldn't agree more it is a waste of time and another example of the CFL trying to sell the game. This one should disappear quickly I hope!!!!
  18. Actually the last two games had the defense been able to hold the opposition in; 1 the last 24 seconds to just 1 first down and in 2. a couple of 2 and outs the last game, we win against Calgary and could have won against Edmonton. Finally the offense actually scored points enough to win a game however the other 2 aspects of the team were not good. Let's see what happens against BC. I hope Hall has something devised to provide more pressure and better coverage; laying off 10 to 15 yards isn't getting it done.
  19. I am very pleased to see this inductee. He was a force to reckon with his entire career in Winnipeg. He was a great man on and off the field in the community as well. Congratulations Herb very deserving. And has been mentioned here hopefully Jack Jacobs will be there as well.
  20. Just a quick comment on our offense, actually two points; 1. Lapo has and always will be a conservative OC with little regard for the intermediate or long pass but content with the 3-7 yard pass. Whether he had Collaros or Reilly or Mitchell as our QB they would be relegated to the same offense. He has been doing it for years going back to when he was in Winnipeg. Oh and his first year here he inherited Worman's offense and players which resulted in a very successful year. Each year after until he was fired that offense went downhill because he changed it to what we have today. And 2. why does it seem that our receivers are always standing still waiting for the ball. Our two passing TDs last game one to Dressler and one to Denmark were things of beauty where the ball was thrown to a spot and the receiver ran to it without breaking stride. That is what Edmonton does; that is what Calgary does; in fact that is what most consistent and explosive offensives do. Our is the 3 -7 yard go to a spot and wait for me to throw it to you type of offense. I have been saying it for some time and Lapo hasn't really learned anything from his stint with TSN at least it sure doesn't show in his play calling. NOW with that said you have to wonder about the reads and route running of the QB and receivers because many times last night there was Dressler and Smith within 10 yards of one another. I get the layering but not that close together on the field. Frankly not impressed with either of these guys and still question why Nichols continues to throw to Dressler in double and triple coverage. Sorry for the ramble but just very frustrated with the offense......then again we could talk about our pathetic defense that cost us 2 games back to back.
  21. What I don't understand is why we consistently try to throw the ball to Dressler in double or triple coverage. He makes the catch one on one but has had difficulty in double or more coverage not to mention the liability of an interception. What is wrong with Denmark? He seldom misses if it is catchable and can get behind coverage as well as Dressler if not better. I would like to know how many throws were aimed at Dressler and Smith tonight verse Denmark. Here is a guy who was cut because these other two were signed via free agency and the Bomber had to humbly come back to ask him to play for them again. What does he do? Merely leads or is close to leading the team in receptions. And the other point about the passing game as has been mentioned here earlier we are back to Lapo's rinkie dinkie passing game. If it controls the clock and we score points okay but when the other team has nearly a 10 time of possession on us then something has to change. And that isn't saying the defense doesn't need to step up. Had they last game we would have won. This game they were terrible in virtually every aspect; pressure, turnovers, coverages and tackling. Back to square one.
  22. While I agree the defense was not good tonight I also thought the offense wasn't very good either. Yes we had over 300 yards of offense and scored what 26 points but we couldn't maintain drives; and we constantly continue to throw those dinkie little passes. I wouldn't mind it too much if we had the game in hand or at least were controlling the clock but we do neither. Further why in the name of ....... are we throwing the ball to Dressler in double and triple coverage time and time again. Kohert dropped several balls tonight, Smith was a non event, Dressler had one good catch and run for a TD and then we have Denmark who continues to catch everything thrown his way but is seldom used. He gets behind coverage like Dressler, is not as often in double coverage as Dressler is but for some reason is not thrown the ball. I guess we were out coached in that our game plan both offense and defense wasn't good enough. We were out played as well and reality is Edmonton has a better team talent wise than we do. Can we get into the playoffs; well with a little help from others we can but if we continue to play as we did tonight we will not need a little help but rather a lot of help. Here's hoping without rose coloured glasses.
  23. he is taking a seat alright, he is traded
  24. Adams hasn't played well since his return to the starting roster. I mentioned this in another thread but to repeat when he wasn't playing and Randle was hurt along with Harris the rookies really shone. When Randle came back he had a tough time initially but seems to have righted the ship. Harris isn't playing thank goodness as Loffler is far superior. And well for Adams he simply isn't as good a Fredrick and has demonstrated this since his return. I think he sealed the deal last game. And frankly wait and see if we don't move Richardson???? (no 25). He was picked on and cost us a lot during that last game. Time will tell
