  1. also tough to play shut down D when you're on the field for more than 20 minutes in a half of football. the offence didn't do anything to give them a breather!
  2. I think they're in for another tough game Saturday afternoon.... if LaPo doesn't call a balanced game, and whoever said it prior, get Harris 20 touches, we're going to be in trouble. Nichols won't put up much more than 220 yds, which will be adequate if Harris can put up 100+ and we get a few FGs from Medlock. When Nichols struggled last year, the kicking game bailed the team out. If it's really stale.... can't be scared to change things up and put Streveler in for a different look. We've seen that he can spark the offence. If we're just going to use him in short yardage, they could have just kept LeFevour.
  3. I guess if they're going to keep paying him to play, why not..... there could be an agreement there that he's transitioning into coaching, kinda like what Dickenson did.... Wally does have to retire eventually, even though he's tried it 12 times already!
  4. How is this different than any other game the last two years??
  5. could this be the last game of the Richie Hall era?? I have to think that the Bomber brass has got a backup plan in mind. If they're struggling this badly against middle of the road teams, it's time to move on. Getting a new D coordinator in place early in the season, and not "after labour day" like so many other teams have done in the past, gives us the best chance to get things turned around with lots of time left in the season! I obviously want the Bombers to win, but if it's another beatdown of our secondary, I just think it's time to go in another direction, which is what they should have done in the offseason anyways!
  6. I wanted to bring up Stoddard, but they didn't have his stats..... Allan Boyko on the other hand, does. Stellar in 1996!! WPG 1993 17 7 108 15.4 27 3 18 WPG 1994 18 5 115 23 47 1 6 WPG 1995 18 23 258 11.2 30 2 12 WPG 1996 17 27 370 13.7 49 1 6 WPG 1997 16 30 280 9.3 29 2 12
  7. nice find! 1 thousand yard season, and 20 TD's over parts of 5 seasons. Nice guy, but that's setting the bar pretty low!
  8. like the feeling I had when Justin Goltz was the flavour of the week!
  9. I really liked him as a player, and he was good for a couple of seasons.... not sure about HOF worthy though? is Romby Bryant on an upcoming ballot??
  10. and good for you.... i don't really care. I show up to every game and cheer my team on regardless, and even during the lean years, still showed up every game and watched them suck. I've earned my right to believe whatever I want!
  11. even 4 opportunities on an 18 game schedule is substantial. I'm not going to go back to previous season any further, but if I did, I guarantee in 2016 & 2015, you'd see similar results, even when we're losing games. O'Shea has proven to be very stubborn about deviating from using his starting QB regardless of the score. It's no secret that I don't think Nichols is the stellar QB a lot of Bomber fans seem to think he is, and that's simply my opinion. I'd love for him to put up 40 TD's and 5000 yds this season and prove me wrong!
  12. WEEK 8 vs Hamilton. Bombers 39 Hamilton 12. No stats for backup QB. Banjo Bowl Bombers 48 Riders 28. No stats for backup QB WEEK 14 vs Ottawa. Bombers 29 Ottawa 9. Davis gets 3 reps, probably on the last drive of the game, even though the Bombers were up 22-3 going into the 4th. WEEK 17 vs BC. Bombers 26 BC 20. Nichols throws for 176 yds and 0 TDs and looked awful. No backup time. WEEK 19 vs BC. Nichols gets injured and our QBs combined have thrown a handful of passes, and subsequently look awful. All I'm saying is, get the backups some time when you have the opportunity. There are 4 scenarios listed above where they could have confidently put in a backup because the game was in hand... but didn't. So do they have these opportunities often, maybe not... but when they do, take advantage of them.
  13. You're missing the point I was making.... failure in that they haven't given the other QB's more playing time when they've had the chance. There were lots of games last year where the game was totally in hand, where they could have thrown in Davis to get him some seasoning, but they'd keep rolling out Nichols right to the bitter end. That doesn't help development. By no means was last year a failure at all... I'm talking about one facet, sorry you misunderstood what I was saying...
  14. more votes for the Bombers winning the Grey Cup than winning the West.... and the one comment of Harris getting more receptions than last year. If that's the case, then we won't be better. They were so heavily reliant on dumping the ball off to Harris last season. If they're not going to utilize their weapons downfield, and use Harris more as a decoy to hold the linebackers closer, they're going to fail. Polls mean nothing.... the "experts" have nothing but opinions. Look how many predicted horribly for the NHL this season.
  15. Streveler looked awesome out there... composed, moves very well.... I was pretty worried about our backup position, but after seeing him play last night, I'm confident that we've got a guy who's going to learn the game, and not only be a reliable backup, but push Nichols to be better. Streveler appears to have a better arm, is more mobile, and with some experience, I think could even push for the #1 job. Now I realize it's one game, and it wasn't against a full team of starters, but his play was still impressive regardless. I hope he gets a full half to play next week, and Nichols gets left at home. You gotta let these guys get some playing time if they're ever going to develop, which is something this coaching staff has totally failed at the last few years.
  16. Did they not win the last game on the season in Calgary with LeFevour at QB?? I don't mind Nichols, I think he's a good QB... I just don't buy into the Elite, or top QB in the league status that some put him at. I hope he takes another step forward this season and gets to that Elite level... I think everyone would love to see that!
  17. Andrew Harris has also masked Nichols weaknesses pretty well! That's a team winning percentage. With the weapons at the Bombers disposal this year in the receiving corps, we will know for sure if Nichols takes that next step. If he remains weak with the deep ball, calling him elite in my mind is simply incorrect.
  18. just seeing that Drew Tate signed with an NCAA club to coach..... didn't even realize that Ottawa released him. I wonder if Walters reached out after Durant "retired" to see if there was interest?? As much as I never really cared for Tate personally, I would have taken that experience on our sideline. I'd argue that if he stayed healthy, he may even have the capability to outplay Nichols!
  19. I wonder if he stayed out to watch the Cup presentation like he said he did last year? Nice pass Mitchell.... soak it in maaaaaan!
  20. If Nichols could finish drives, we wouldn't have to kick 7 field goals a game..... the last 2 months of the season, most of his TDs were in garbage time. I like the guy, but he's still gotta take another big step next season to get into the Elite category, regardless of his 2nd overall ranking this season.
  21. Maybe Hurl wants to go back to Regina.... trade for Henoc's rights! I will personally throw in a 30 pack of Pilsner
  22. Is BMO the sponsor of the movie theatre Carter and his groupies went to?? I was talking to a co-worker today in Regina and I joked that after the kick return TD, everyone was probably online looking for tickets... after a brief silence she says 'yeah.... my dad actually started looking up flights to Ottawa!' They jinxed themselves!!! HA!
  23. We can force a quick two and out... can't stop their run game, but sure, why not this time!??
  24. I don't even want to think about how bad Finch & Messam would have made Hurl look
