  1. No... if it becomes obviously that he's playing in pain, I would hope that the coaching/training staff would step in and voice their opinions. No one wants to see a guy get hurt, but players play through pain all the time. Nichols is going to push it to the max knowing full well his job is on the line.
  2. I think doing what's right would be playing through the pain to the point that you can't physically do it anymore. Matt would have to have something broken or a tear to say he can't go. Although I haven't been happy with his play of late, the guy is tough as hell and has come back from some pretty bad injuries over his career. He's a warrior, there's no questioning that.
  3. a bunch of 'praise the lord' tweets from Flanders this morning.... is he going in??
  4. tough to run a hurry up when you're 2 and out.... that said, would be nice to see LaPo mix some of that in on Saturday! keep the D on their toes, especially if their DC isn't at the game!
  5. seeing Masoli move the ball at will at the end of that game is reminiscent of what a good QB can do to the Bombers..... sure would be nice to see a good NFL cut DB parachuted in here in the next few weeks and firm things up! a nice WR prospect would be nice too!
  6. but don't you think opposing defences have started to key in on the short plays knowing that Nichols isn't much of a deep threat? even Harris looked dejected a few times getting up after getting dump passes when there were 3 people right in his vicinity, and likely receivers open downfield??
  7. the difference between Montreal and the 2018 Bombers. We have arguably the best OLine in the league, where Montreal has very much had the worst OLine. That's a pretty good advantage for a young QB to have! As much as people ran Willy out of town here, you have to also look at who he was playing behind.
  8. I watched Matt all game Friday. I would argue he's not getting through his reads. He seemed locked into one side of the field all game. I'll take that as a valid point, as Streveler doesn't even have a ton of time in the film room yet... but sometimes, a guy just has it. I'm not suggesting we start Streveler this week, or even next. But get him into some games, and get him some more looks. The last thing I want is to get into late September, and we're having this same conversation saying 'man, we're not moving the ball very well' . It's better to try something mid season then when we get down to the nitty gritty a month from now.
  9. I have never once said that I place sole blame on Matt Nichols for the Bombers loss on Friday. The defence was terrible, and took penalties that extended drives and allowed Ottawa to keep drives going that they eventually went to score on. However... I fully expected it to be a high scoring game, and one of those 'last team with the ball wins' sort of games. In the parking lot before, I predicted a 44-41 win for the Bombers. Our offence however (which many were saying the week before was the best and most exciting offence in the league) did very little to move the ball on most drives. I know you win & lose as a team, but our leader wasn't inspiring with his play, which I argue has been taking place for the better part of a year now. In 2014, the Stamps who had Drew Tate at QB decided to run with Bo Levi and went on to win the Grey Cup. Their coaches seemed to know they had something and weren't scared to make a switch (If I remember correctly, this was brought on by an injury to Tate, but, Tate wasn't the unquestioned leader afterwards, even though he was winning). Those coaches... John Hugnagel & Dave Dickenson. Two former very successful QBs.
  10. I believe that Streveler brings a whole other dynamic to the offence. With his mobility, I think it makes it tougher for opposing defences to key in on certain players. I believe he has a better arm. I think with his scrambling ability, it opens up plays downfield, which with Nichols, it certainly does not. Do I think he has the pedigree and experience of Nichols? Of course not... what rookie would? But do I believe that Streveler gives us a better chance to win? Yes, I actually do.
  11. I'm sick of hearing about the winning record... I know that seems outrageous, and I'll take heat for it.. I don't care. I've watched his play closely the last two seasons, and since the second half of last year, it's dropped off. Looking at who they beat last year and this year, Nichols has only beat 2 teams with a winning record in the last calendar year. Saskatchewan in the Banjo Bowl last year and Edmonton a few weeks later. After that, he only beat BC in a game where he threw for 172 yds and 0 TDs. For me, it's what have you done for me lately... and while he has turned in some wins, it's my honest belief that Streveler would have won those games too. I'll stop harping on it for now and see what happens on Saturday afternoon.
  12. Nichols 4 wins come against teams with a combined record of 9-15 (BC, TOR & HAM) and blew the game against BC that should have been a W. Streveler hung right in there with Edmonton in his first start in the CFL against the reigning MOP. I'm sorry, but if you don't see the upside in this guy, over a stagnant regressing Nichols, then we can just file you under 'Complacent' as far as Bomber fans go!
  13. do you mean the same Bo Levi Mitchell who won a Grey Cup in 2014 at age 24?? go look at his record... he took over playing in 2013 at 23, and won a Grey Cup in his next season. How old is Streveler?
  14. this guy's sitting at home doing nothing, posting this on YouTube in hopes of getting lots of hits so he can make money.... while Bob is on the field coaching football. Bet that moron has never even touched cleats to a football field.
  15. maybe because of job security?? 'aww shucks, if coach osh likes me, I'll at least stick around the whole season if not longer! no worries getting cut there!' now that said.... what happened with Kenny Stafford? Was he cut in camp last year? just checked the receiving stats, and he is currently sitting ahead of our #1 receiver in receiving yards.
  16. shouldn't be a tough decision if this level of play continues.... our highest paid player can't be performing at a mediocre level if we're going to be a contender. Maybe we need to get Mike Kelly back in here for a midseason contract re-structuring discussion? still can't believe that ever happened!
  17. Hmmm.... a coach who has won the Grey Cup in his last 3 seasons in the CFL had no issues sitting down an underperforming QB in lieu of a complete CFL rookie. I didn't think anyone did that....😲
  18. Lankford had a near TD in his hands, great throw by Nichols, right on the money... and as Lankford was going down, he took his right hand off the ball to break his fall rather than hang on to it with both hands.... hit the ground, and the ball popped loose at the 1. If his priority is saving himself a little pain from the fall over securing the ball with both hands and making the catch, he's just not a good receiver.
  19. my argument is that Streveler should have gone in well before Nichols got injured. He only had 156 yds passing after the 3rd quarter, while Harris was probably more than double that at that point.... why not change it up!? 6- 2 and outs, no rhythm at all.... give things a different look. If O'Shea is going to get better as a coach, he can't be scared to change things up once in a while!
  20. I know.... this has not been the norm. But I think it's in the CFL handbook all the players get at the start of the season, just in case the new americans don't quite understand the premise.
  21. actually where the game totally got away from us was on the fumble scored for a TD, right after an Ottawa TD. It went from being a one score game, to a three score game after that one. The hole was too deep at that point, and the offence continued to sputter. Through 3 quarters, Nichols had 156 yds passing and I believe six 2 and outs.
  22. Nichols today on the upcoming game in Calgary <excerpt> "it's going to be a 4 quarter game..." thanks Matt! good to know!
  23. I don't think Dave Ritchie ever worried about hurting people's feelings.... we had great success under him. Didn't win a Grey Cup, but always had competitive no BS football teams!
  24. wasn't the loyalty to Lankford part of the reason that TJ Thorpe asked for his release?? or was that 2 years ago? he would look decent in the current offence!
