I was an independent insurance adjuster living i& working in Thompson with my wife & 3 year old son (at the time). It was right around this time of the year. Maybe late November or early December of 1989. I was watching TV & switched to a weather channel similar to the one we used to have on local cable in Winnipeg. It said the ambient air temp outside was -52 Celsius. Even being from Winnipeg, I never experienced temperatures like that. So, I bundled up. went out & checked my truck. I wanted to experience what it's like at minus 50 for the first & only time in my life. Made sure that my truck was properly plugged into my stall at our apartment block. No wind. Just silence. Felt like I was in some sort of vacuum. The sky was clear & full of stars. Silence except for the cracking of the trees around me that sounded like gunshots going off & the steam comimg out of every chimney & vent in town. As well as the crunch of the snow when I walked. My experience wasn't sublime but surreal. Felt like I was another planet. I HATE cold weather but that was a heckuva beautiful experience!

So Harvard Media, which owns several media outlets in Sask and AB (including Riders broadcast partner 620 CKRM) has purchased 3 Down Nation. Not sure exactly what this means, but the press release talking about how well respected 3DNs writers are made me LOL... -
I don't understand the "hate" for people going South for winter and how it is related to domestic flights being expensive. I don't believe airlines are subsidizing flights to Mexico by charging more to folks wanting to travel back and forth from Calgary? The only hate should be Air Canada taking billions from our Gov't and yet still outsourcing most of the jobs and charging customers top dollar for mediocre services. Me thinks you are in a time warp and think that it is the 80's where a family could travel via car for an affordable rate while only the rich and upper class can fly to Mexico. These days it's the opposite, our family road trips that we take are extremely expensive in comparison for the value that we have when we fly to Mexico. I've encountered several people in my life who didn't understand going South for winter.... until they went one time and then realized how great it is and after going once couldn't wait until they could go back again. Many of them regretted waiting so many years until going. Leaving Winnipeg in -30 weather and arriving somewhere tropical and getting that blast of hot +25 humid air as you leave the plane is sublime.

St. Louis would put 40k in for the cfl. I’m not sure anywhere else would tho. Canada and the US aren’t exactly bffs right now either tho so I don’t see US expansion anytime soon. What the cfl should do tho is try to get a streaming deal with apple Amazon or Netflix and go from there. -

I think the CFL is ready to pounce in UFL cities if the league folds. There's a lot of negativity about the league in the media down south since that billionaire bought the UFL. Got rid of GM's & scoutinmg staff. Players not making a lot of money. Older players being tossed aside for the 21 & 22 years olds as the UFL is a developmental league now. Everything is centralized now under his watchful eye. I'm sure training camps will be in the same place or close by. No community involvement at all. -

I’m not sure I’d have given him gm and head coach duties. This could blow up in ottawas face pretty quickly. Great coach but unknown gm. Sometimes wearing both hats backfires. Seems like in the cfl when a guy is both coach and gm, it fails. Chris Jones comes to mind in the recent era. Now if we go back 20 years it’s different but it’s not 20 years ago. -

If Tommy Condell was hired, it would be the same thing...The run game is an afterthought with him. -
You can find deals though - like I said, you can fly to/from Calgary and Winnipeg for very cheap at certain times. If you are looking to go at peak times, you pay peak prices. Google Flights is a good way to look for affordable flights and you can set alerts to notify you when prices change. Halifax is beautiful but like most cities, the homeless situation makes it unappealing to explore, at least it was a couple years ago when I was there. Only other place east of Ontario, I've been was Montreal - also beautiful but was way more expensive than Halifax.

I think if anyone can afford to go on a holiday to a sunny resort anywhere then they should pay for the privelidge. We, the poor Canadians who stay home in the winter, if we want to fly in order to see family in Canada, we pay for it big time. I've never travelled anywhere in the winter. We travel in the summer. Prefer to drive over flying. In 2 years when my wife retires, we're planning a road trip to Halifax. We have family & friends in New Brunswick & Ontario. I've never beem east of Toronto. You're late!! It's mine.

Inflation has hit the States big time over the last few years. It was really expensive for us travelling in Spring where food and lodging was pricier then in Canada.

Friesen was inducted into the media section of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. He apparently asked no other than Mike (handled internally) Kelly to induct him. There is a video of Mike Kelly's induction speech. Probably not worth the minutes of commercials The Sun will make you watch to see it, but it is the off season. https://winnipegsun.com/sports/video-mike-kelly-introduces-paul-friesen-into-hall-of-fame-2025 In one of Kelly's job interviews after the Bombers, they looked him up online and apparently asked him who Friesen was, as a bunch of his articles came up. Kelly said his response was "someone who did their job better than I did." -

Not silly at all, I would think it will certainly make the transition easier for imp rookies. They aren’t the biggest differences, but they are odd for americans. I wonder how big the transition will be for established guys though. No joke. Ufl Ds really struggle not having the cohesion of units that have been together for a time. A lot of the good D in the spring leagues looks like that. Tbh it starts out like that here, but our season is long and we have enough hold overs to get past it. The spring leagues never reach that point imo. Farhan now reporting he’d be shocked if hogan was back as oc for us next year. Day keeps getting better. -

Oh, damn- one less mediocre restauant to not patronize. My absolute favourite breakfast place is The Original Pancake House. The giant apple pancake is a good excuse to sleep the rest of the morning, but my 16 year old son ate TWO of them in a single sitting on a dare. We didn't see him again until well after lunch. -
Avoiding the US and going elsewhere maybe? Or are US prices bad too?

Have yet to see a good explanation. Jamaica getting hit by the hurricane has definitely increased prices but it's still been much higher than normal even prior to that. We book well in advance and have price match guarantees so we're always watching prices. There were some deals to be had a couple months ago but very few these days unless you are happy with going to Cuba.

In this video for the last TD.... can the Blue sign the receiver Malik Turner? That juke and speed was real nice! Perkins in that TD run it was hilarious on how bad those defenders froze and watched him... if that is a representation of the talent in the UFL then yikes. -

Maybe a silly question but will shortening the field and end zone help american football players adjust easier to our game or is the 65 yard width and three down football etc their biggest adjustments? Sad it was my dad's favorite restaurant.
