Leading by example isn’t just what he does between the pipes. Personality preferences is no excuse for bad behaviour. Example, if one of your personality traits is being a blunt person it doesn’t give you licence to say and do what you want with others just because that’s ’who I am’.

The entire league has Winnipeg on its no trade list. What Helle is saying is public knowledge.

You don't air dirty laundry in public and real leaders take at least some blame, even if they don't need to (and Helle was far from perfect...)

Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
The 1971 Canadian College Draft the Bombers drafted Wingback Bobby Kraemer, DB & WB Peter Ribbins, Fullback Clay McEvoy & HB Dennis Hrycaiko. All except Hrycaiko played extensively & helped turn a horrible 2-14 Bomber team in 1970 into an exciting 8-7-1 third place team with the highest scoring offense in the league. The Bombers made the playoffs for the first time in 5 seasons. Kraemer& Ribbins were starters. A draft pick from a year earler in the second round, Bob LaRose was also an impact player. Tall, fast with soft hands, LaRose became a favourite of QB Don Jonas as he had the speed & route running ability to get open downfield. Suddenly, CFL DC's had to account not only for Split End Jim Thorpe downfield but LaRose as well. They complimented each other very well. Two years before, anyone unfortunate enough to play qb for the Bombers had no one at all to throw to. Kraemer could play qb & did at times to spell off Jonas as well as becoming a clutch possession receiver. In one game in 1973, Kraemer caught 15 passes which was a Bomber record for number of catches.. Ribbins was another great receiver but an even better Defensive Back where he was a ball hawk in the secondary lining up against the CFL's best receivers. He led the CFL in interceptions in 1972 . McEvoy backed up FB Ed Williams. He was a crash & banger up the middle like Bob Houmard was. As well as a decent blocker. I never liked GM Earl Lunsford. He was an Old School Oklahoman meaning he didn't like Blacks although he knew he needed them to win. He treated his players like vermin at times. However, from 1970 to 72 he drafted very well & our Canadian content was replenished. These & other guys Lunsford drafted those 3 seasons shone as players.

I dunno. Helle has always been similar after not reaching the end goal. His post season interviews in the past have had similar vibes for sure. He doesn’t like criticism and never blames himself. He just doesn’t and hasn’t ever done that. He’s said he can always work on things to improve but he’s never actually accepted criticism. It’s never him. Watch previous season ending interviews with him. It’s similar. It’s how he’s wired. I’d say he’s probably saying what lots of the core is thinking. I think the article I originally saw said don’t be surprised if Helle played his last game in Winnipeg and I clicked and I didn’t get that sense at all. Bit sensationalized headline there. Helle leads by example I suppose. He’s always been outspoken with the media tho. Honest really. Blunt even. Surely YouTube has his past season ending interviews up. It’s always similar when not winning with him. Would it be nice if he was a bit more humble and said I personally didn’t have the best season minus being on an Olympic all star team? Yup but he’d never say that ever. And in the end Helle isn’t the problem, the problem is signing washed up bums to play with washed up bums. 31 of 32 teams would have waived Nyquist, we gave him minutes pp time ot time and shootouts. Nino also. Names also. But we played them. Why give a kid a shot in the top 6 when you can play defensive guru Iafallo up there. Helle is right.

I see Jake Thomas’s coaching is already working even though he thought 6’5 TE was an incoming DL. :). I’m a huge Jake Thomas fan now that he’s off the field. Love you JT.

You make some key points especially about Chevy’s record this year but where I branch off is one can be highly competitive, expect excellence from himself and others and be a great team member and leader. It’s not picking and choosing one approach or the other depending on the level of adversity in front of you. It’s predictability and consistently with it all. He’s coming across as being above the team. No one is above the team. That’s not being a Helle hater with weird comments about politics, it’s called how high performing teams operate to win championships.

2019 was a great class but would love to see an article that touched on other great classes to make a better comparison.

I actually agree with Helle here. We went out and signed washed up bums to play with other washed up bums. I’d be pissed also but I’d prob recognize that I personally didn’t have the best year either despite having smoke blown up my ass by some MAGA folks. Connor has always been an arrogant conceited prick, the guy refuses to accept any sort of criticism. Always been like this. The reality is he’s going nowhere because 1. He’s pretty right in his general opinion and 2. Goalies get nothing in return. This will be an interesting off season. Perhaps one of the more important ones… I’ll also say you don’t need all of Iafallo names and Nino taking up spots either. 2 of 3 must go by any means necessary. I like AI but he likely has some value where Nino and names have none. Nyquist is exhibit A for what Helle is actually talking about by the way. Can’t disagree with him. I can’t be upset with guys who want to win but teams with lesser goalies have won Stanley Cups so it’s not like Helle isn’t replaceable. Personally my untouchables are Helle 55 81 Gabe Lowry Josh Salo. Let’s throw in Koepke now and Rosen. That’s it Everyone else is on the table for upgrades.

Yeah...and he finally has put himself in the right environment to make said strides. Not that I think he will get another NFL opportunity anytime soon...if ever really, but if he was to maybe get a sniff it will be from being up here and showing he belongs on a pro field and can be successful. That being said he prob won't show any of that potential for at least 2 yrs and even then woukd be pushing 27 and still considered as a project down there and will have aged out. No team will invest money and time..especially in a Canadian College kid who if he ever shows starter or number 2 talent when that player will be pushing 30..not gonna happen His top end ceiling this yr likely is a number 3 guy running short yardage and accumulated tds doing so..but we have seen u can get that with any big body behind center..not always even a qb...that in itself won't get you a sniff...

25/26 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season Thread
I'm not sure his suspension starts ticking down until he's under contract. Anyway, it was a minimum 6 games and could be more. Not a great opportunity for other teams to considering a player not available for that extended period.

Having your feelings hurt because somebody reacted to your comment is hilarious! Naturally you'd blame it on politics which makes it even more hilarious. Thanks for the laugh, I for one appreciate it.

Ok so I got a moronic eye roll for my post. What does that mean? Explain yourselves Helle-haters. I pray that this isn't due to some extremely stupid political reason but I know it probably is, and that's just awful if true.

Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
my hope is that the biggest reason we picked him and did it early was we liked the intangibles from the interview and conversations with his coach. If the kids soft skills are as good as his raw arm talent, he’s got as good a chance as it gets. I don’t expect any thing of value on the field this year from him. I’m hoping he shows a bit more of what he did in nfl pre season, but mainly that he shows great strides between now and next years camp.

Obviously I hope TE turns into Rourke but I just can't imagine a world where a CIS QB has the ability of an NCAA Div 1 kid.... But... Maybe TE is the best CIS QB of all time? Time will tell.

He looks the part...passed they "eye test" curious tho as why nobody kept him around for at least a yr to develop tho...guess we will see first hand in a month...maybe he doesn't have the aptitude or process ability at pro level...maybe back to the game he knows we reap the rewards...I pulling for him but with very tempered view
