[Blue Bomber Talk] Early thoughts on 2015 CFL Draft

http://bluebombertalk.blogspot.ca/2015/01/early-thoughts-on-2015-cfl-draft.html?m=1

Though the CFL draft is still four months away (in fact, the CFL has yet to officially announce a date for the event), the release of Justin Dunk’s first mock draft inspired me to put some draft thoughts together. Though the draft strategies of the CFL’s nine teams will surely evolve as free agency concludes, trades are made, the CFL combine is undertaken, and the NFL draft takes place, here are my thoughts on the 2015 CFL draft with all current information being taken into account.

Some good in depth thoughts ... Will post opinion later. Feel free to share a comment on his blog or give him a follow on Twitter @BomberJetsTalk

Don't agree on tackle over guard.  First of all, take the best player with consideration given to availability around the NFL.  Secondly, we don't have a surplus of interior guys.  Picard and Morley a

Durant looks like a pretty crazy talent... any projections for him to get drafted in the NFL?

Depends if we can land a stud like Heenan or Holmes in free agency.  That would of course reduce our need to draft an OL with the second pick.

Even then, Waud/Durant might be worth making a deal.

It's all hypothetical anyways, unless these guys project extremely highly there's no need to deviate from whatever the current plan is, and whatever the current evaluations are for these players, they will not likely change at all until Ecamp (outside of Waud's upcoming game).

And if there's 2 guys we feel we absolutely must have, we still have to find a dance partner for a trade and hope the second guy is still on the board for us to take.

Can't plan for any of this in January, but we can be open to the idea.

Based just on percentages, it seems very unlikely.  About 30 WR taken per draft.  Simon Fraser is very low profile by NCAA standards.  On average about 1 or 2 low-profile school receivers get taken per year.  The chances it's him are not favourable.

But his agent could get him a free agent tryout.  Odds of that happening have to be a lot higher than him getting drafted.

I think by the time Watson gets injured, Durant will be ready to be a starter. Not sure who I want the Bombers to pick now... There's a lot of good ones this draft

Saw a tweet that suggests Waud may be drafted in the NFL draft

saw it too, Believe it said as high as the 5th round even.

Durant it is? Or Groux 2nd overall and maybe Demski will fall to 11

Really think we go oline at 2 this year now.

Waud for sure has NFL potential as a 5-tech DE. As a CFL prospect, I actually think he may have a better future as an offensive tackle. He has the height and arm length for it.

Waud's gonna be a pretty good DT in this league... no need to switch him to the other side

This would be my dream draft at this point, Groulx & Demski (or Richards if Demski is gone).

Ackie looks very interesting, At 6'1" and 210 he is still fast enough to play DB with room to put on a few more pounds. His tackling looks to need a bit of work, but he is not afraid to hit. He ought to make a helluva free safety or even an outside linebacker with some seasoning.

I think he projects to be a very good starter at WLB in a year or two.

Hypothetical, But I can see BC offering us their first and second rounders for #2 overall to get a guy like Varga or Durant if there's no NFL interest... anyone here bite on that deal?

#2 for #4 and #13? I would.

In this draft, I'd do that too.

Make sure you're watching today's Senior Bowl. Tyler Varga is competing against some of the best NCAA talent.

Currently at 2 carries for 11 yards.

@ArashMadani: The Journal de Montreal reports Byron Archambault, the terrific Carabins LB, will take part in the NFL regional combine in Denver on Feb. 21

Looking at the rankings and just throwing stuff at the wall, is it possible we take Durant at #2 and OT Ruby at #11?

That would be awesome, but risk is if you take Durant at 2 there's no guarantee the OL Walters wants is there at 11.

Walters said this week that he thinks there is going to be a run on Oline guys in first round. Said mostly due to fact that the last few drafts have been really weak Oline drafts teams will be looking to stock up. As a result there will be a few really talent skill position guys that will fall.

With both Heenan and Holmes off the table to all practical intents, and our desperate need for O-linemen, I can't see Walters looking past a O-line potential starter in the first round.

Heenan off the table? Check this out.... Taman boldly says he won't lose him to another CFL team but then at the end the actual truth comes out when he says Heenan is a hard guy to read & has no idea what is going to happen in 10 days. Taman may sign Heenan but as of yesterday he didn't sound too confident. Interesting to see that Brendan must've rolled out of bed a half hour before & didn't shave or shower for that presser.
