CFL Week 3 Winnipeg vs Montreal Preview

With the conclusion of this last week, we now embark on the road to play one of our good old former east rivals, the Alouettes.

On paper, our team should be able to finish em off quickly, clearly we know who the better QB and better offense is in general coming into this game.  But matchups aren't won on paper.

That being said, even though Montreal's offense is anemic, their defense has been pretty good.  BC is looking bad this year sure, but that Montreal defense was holding the Stampeders' potent offense in check most of that game too.  Apart from that one bomb caught by Mo Price, that Calgary offense was having trouble moving the ball and sustaining drives, so this Als defense is nothing to take lightly.  Plus the injury to greaves is concern for us.  I'd expect the Als to attempt more rips and stunts again this week up front and we're going to have to be ready for those.

In the end I think we'll win this but I don't see it being another offense shoot the lights out game.

I've got:

Winnipeg 25

Montreal  19

Willy is going to penetrate the Als D with deep and powerful thrusts all night long, leading to victory.

You also have to remember, the team that scores the most points by the end of the game has a better chance of winning. - Chris Schultz

#Als' QB Troy Smith has his left knee taped up now and isn't running the offence. He was, earlier. Smith, of course, had knee issues @ camp.

Cordaro Howard taking first team reps at LG again this morning #bn

Glad the Bombers are favoring protecting Drew Willy by playing the best available OL, but where do we slot another Canadian in?  Guessing Teague Sherman has perhaps "earned" starters reps, and Stephan would then get backup reps?  Would this new NI spot slot in at dime?

It's early for a GIF thread. Lol.

The one on the right is almost as scary as the one on the left.....

Troy Smith has removed the tape from his knee and has a helmet on - but isn't practising.

Yup, just saw the same thing on the Als board.

@BobIrvingCJOB: Cordaro Howard getting nearly all the first team reps--pencil him in at left guard for the bombers in Montreal

I think I'd rather see us play Troy Smith than Tanner Marsh for the basic fact of reading defences and how Etch probably still has a few more wrinkles to introduce.

They both suck so I'm not too worried about them. It's Alex Brink that we have to be scared of in my opinion.

I hope Troy Smith plays, his LEFT KNEE problem will probably limit his ability to scramble effectively against our D.

He might think that his knee is safer inside the pocket since once he try to scramble...

...our guys can tackle him lower and he might find himself on the shelf after the game.

Limit their run game (Whitaker) and let Smith try to beat Etch pass heavy D in the air.

I'll go for the guy with the 51.1 QB rating, if you please......

@friesensunmedia: #Bombers head coach Mike O'Shea says starting safety Maurice Leggett is questionable (ankle) for Friday in Mtl. D. Alexander an option.

Johnny Sears, move Sherman to the LB spot.

Ya that's better... then we need to add another Nat'l on the roster (DB Alexander) as another backup.

Can't be an Int'l since all DI position has been filled up.

how do you figure

Alexander and Howard on to 44 Leggett and Greaves 1 gm injured probably bring Suber onto 46.

i based it on the fact that Alexander haven't played a regular season game yet while Sears played 2 already, aside from the fact that Alexander is coming from injury. Also, his play on the Safety position (Esks) are not that good (according to some).

That's just my opinion though.

I meant how do you figure we have to add a Canadian if an American comes off the roster.

My guess is how it all plays out is a rotation of Alexander, Sherman, Richardson and Thomas. Two of them on the field at all times. Sears can line up virtually any where on the defense. Might be tricky having to account for him different situations.
