Over the past six years his average is 42.4 yds per kick, inflated slightly by last season's average of 43.9 YPK (due to lots of 2-outs by our putrid offence in 2013). Of course there's lots more to evaluating a kicker's effectiveness than how far your average kick travels. Coaches don't want the booming 60 yard punts anymore as the returners being so fast can outrun the coverage. So, a guy with a 38.9 yd avg is probably favored more than a guy with a 44.5 yd avg. Burke Dales could boom his punts but he was not a great directional punter. Punters like Rob Maver & Josh Bartel are very good directional punters. They are pretty proficient at dropping their punts into a spot on the field or punting out of bounds. Agree for the most part - Maher lost his job because he was outpunting the coverage... - however, I would take Maver or Bartel over Renaud anyday... He is okay but mid-30 yard punts from our side of the field - meh. If you include our no yards penalties in 'net yardage', its not a great picture. Now I realize that living on the prairies like we do, he sometimes needs to keep it lower so that he can drive the ball into the wind .. but I feel this is one area of his game that is inconsistent. What's his net yardage after returns and how many times has he punted out of bounds with no return? How do these numbers compare with the rest of the league's punters? Answer those questions and I think we'll have a better idea of how good our punting game is. Had a couple others if Woods had little more speed would have a couple more big ones. Looked to me like the Bombers had the block on pretty consistently when the Ottawa's were punting. Maher also started taking quite a bit off his kicks after Woods return, Ottawa's special teams looked genuinely afraid of the Bombers having something odd on. You could see them lining up man on man on both punt teams, being real careful, which I guess is an effect of having O'Shea as our coach. Renaud had a bad day. No wind, no reason to hit kicks under 40, even for placement. Pretty sure our punt cover guys can cover a 45 yard punt. Floyd 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

He was in our camp then I think he went somewhere else after he was cut, he was cut again and...... is he going to Junior football? Maybe in a few years....... But I do remember Cameron in his early years here - if we had forums then I bet a lot of people would be saying the same thing. He was allowed to 'perfect' his craft over time. I think Renaud is getting better, and yes he has bad games but all players do. Unfortunately, for football, Kickers and QB's can't 'hide' when they have a bad game (similarly hockey goalies) - if they have an 'off day' even a semi-casual fan will notice it. He is probably as good as he is going top be and the coaches and management will have to decide if he's good enough. I happen to think we need to do better. I think the day of the punter/PK are numbered. Only a couple of guys do it now. The day of the true specialist is upon us. It used to be your regular center also long snapped on punts & FGs. And we had guys like Bernie Ruoff who punted & kicked FGs. Now, each job is handled by 3 different players for the most part. Lirim mentioned in an interview he wants all trey jobs.. Also, I think the coaches like his accuracy, rarely gets blocked and knows his stuff cold...
