Here's my mock protected lists.  They assume that what everyone around the league is saying is true, that Ottawa won't select free agents.  I didn't bother going to round 3 because quite frankly the players that will be left are not that good.  Some of Ottawa's picks in the first two rounds will be marginal players if they truly avoid free agents.

Why would Edmonton protect Willis over Sherritt?

They have Curran.  Sherritt has a wonky thumb that limited him or had him out of the lineup most of last season and a huge contract.

Broken shin?

Would be a risk from Walters perspective, but Neufeld missed nearly an entire season from a broken leg that hasn't healed and was reinjured when he tried to return.  I don't believe Ottawa will select him for that reason, and I think they will be starting two import tackles anyways.

Now I get it

I saw the * next to Muamba's name and the "* broken shin" at the bottom and did some bizarre correlation.

I strongly believe that Nik Lewis will be protected by the Stamps over Fuller. Nik's got a couple more years in the tank & is under contract. He will be a thousand yard receiver when he returns next season. It would be a PR nightmare for the Stamps if he was drafted by Ottawa & then was an impact player there for a couple more years.. Look at the (lack of) blocking in the WDF by Price at slot. It wasn't until McDaniel went down in BC during the final regular season game & price took McDaniels spot that Lewis was sorely missed as he was so good at blocking every game. Absolutely Fuller's got talent. The question I think is Fuller going to be protected over Joe West?

Stamps Assistant GM John Murphy was on radio here in Calgary tonight to talk about the expansion draft. He had an interesting observation about the Stampeder picks & how the organization has handled it. Only the coaches that have committed to being here next season were permitted to enter the locked room where the list was posted. It was under lock & key & only Murphy, Huff & one or two others worked on it. So, Dave Dickenson having signed a new long term agreement could go into that room & see the list but Rick Campbell, Dan Yanowski & Bob Gibson who have all left for Ottawa couldn't. Murphy explained that the CFL is a business first & in the long term peoples careers are at stake. He said to the credit of the departed coaches they understood & handled the situation well. Murphy said Huff basically told the coaches that you're either with us or you're not. The guys that couldn't commit didn't see that list. So, that's how the Stamps handled it. He said that the Stamps being a winning organization know their coaches will eventually go somewhere so it was decided to handle things this way.

The thing with Calgary is it's most likely 80% chance one of there QB's get taken so won't matter which imports are protected.

If true, it means they won't lose Rob Maver. Probably the best directional punter in the league.

Ottawa could always pick Maver then try to sign Burris or trade for Tate(I Imagine Cal would want to keep Glenn).

If Ott picks one of the Stamps qbs then they can't take Maver. Saying that because Paredes will be protected.
