Guess I'll start with Armia being out for awhile.

We're lucky Chiarot has been playing so well.  And that Morrow has been pretty good too.

Yes Nashville Ducks would suck a lot of energy out of Nashville.

You never know.  I have the Kings as my darkhorse candidate in the West.  They are very good.

For purely selfish reasons, I want this...

First round - Minnesota-Jets - least travel

Second round - San Jose-Jets - just to see Buff open-ice destroy Kane

Third round - Vegas - because its a short flight for me!

Finals - Boston-Jets - Wheeler's revenge...

Yeah he's running a .922 save percentage right now.  LA in general has been playing quite well since they started to  make moves around the trade deadline.

I'm always wary of the teams with a good goalie, stud defenceman, and playoff experience.  They're the ones that can make a solid playoff run out of an average regular season.

It's always good to bet a dark horse in the playoffs.  Load up on them while everyone is taking a third line guy on Tampa or Vegas.

I would like to see the NHL move to a 1 to 8 seeding system, with reseeding after the first round.

I would too.  Jets should play Nashville in round three, not round two.  Just means a weaker team gets to the third round.   That got me a few years ago when the Habs had to take out Boston while the Rangers got a cake walk in round two against an injury-ravaged Pittsburgh team and then beat the Habs in Round 3 who were totally gassed after the Boston series.  Didn't seem fair given the disparity in the standings, as the Rangers just walked into the finals.  The Bruins and Canadiens should have met in Round 3 and slugged it out after killing off the weaker fish.

There is something to be said for not worrying too much where you finish in the standings (i.e., average regular season) as long as it's 16 or better.

Then do your damage.

I have vague memories of such things.  Number one would play sixteen, number two would play 15 and away we go.  That got changed pretty early on though with the formations of the Smythe division etc.  Which meant every year Winnipeg was screwed having to play Edmonton in round one or two.

Here's the playoff seeding in 1980.  Imagine if the NHL went back to this format....Winnipeg might play Pittsburgh in Round One.  How screwy would that be...

I too remember that. The Freep listed one division and I also want to say it was 79/80.

But Wiki says they had divisions back then. Maybe it was just for playoff predictions.

Looks like in 1982 they changed the playoff format to be inter-divisional rather than treated as just one big division.    This cut down on travel costs, as you didn't have four rounds of potential bi-coastal series, but it also guaranteed seeing the same teams beat their brains out every year in the playoffs, until the finals.

 

 

I would still keep the East-West divisions. 1-8, 1-8. 

It would suck for say Tampa Bay to get first overall and have to travel to Vancouver, a 16 seed. Then the might play Pittsburgh who played against New York or Buffalo in the first round. 

West teams have enough travel already.
