US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

Knowing Texas they will push to allow students to bring their guns to school.

Politicians on their soap boxes serving up the same old song and dance and nothing will ever change, most want more guns in schools, malls on the streets and they really don't care if the peasants kill each other. Gov. Abbott proclaimed that he wanted Texas to have the most guns of all the states and today he sits their with his smug face and stupid grin telling people that he is so sorry when he is the root cause.

Freedom without responsibility. Same theme over and over from the same group of individuals.

This is so predictable. The solution to guns is more guns. Ffs.

Always. And, they're going to have a big gun party this weekend. Yeehaw! Kill Em All! Yeehaw!! Pew pew pew.

With all their orphanages that will soon be overflowing, this is a perfect time for a Hunger Games style show. Get those kids and train them up. In twenty years, just have them kill each other off with guns. It's a win-win.

TMZ now reporting it's 18 children and 3 adults that are dead....the a-hole's grandmother is still alive but critical

I was thinking about this. There is more to this these shootings than the amount of and type of guns.

People in the states, are violent, more violent than we are able to understand.

violence is viewed as an extreme, but acceptable solution to some every day problems.

look at the airport incident with the football player.

Use of violence is encouraged, its even legislated....the stand your ground laws.

enabling citizens to go after abortion health care workers.

hailing rittenhouse as a hero. He met Trump.

They are just a violent country.

there are many many guns in Canada, but for the most part, we do not see them as a solution.

americans have been exporting extreme violence since the korean war, now, it has  come home.

Switzerland has a lot of guns, but the people are not nuts, so..... they dont have these shootings.

Just a part of the decay of their society, which has been going on since the seventies. No real sign of significant change ahead for the better that I can see.

It is a cultural/attitudinal problem that began with the American revolution when the country was born in violence. The colonists were afraid, rightly or wrongly, of a British re-invasion and encouraged all male adults to have firearms and be prepared to use them on short notice. There is good evidence that the colonists were more afraid of losing their slaves than unfair taxation, and that attitude warped public attitudes. The framers of the American constitution placed the primacy of the individual over the common good and when you mix those two values along with a multitude of firearms, it leads to the Munroe Doctrine and Manifest Destiny.

Americans are driven by fear of each other and a mythological government overreach. The gun culture is extolled in the male supremacy myth and "might makes right" thinking. They are not "all in this together"- they see themselves as being in a zero-sum game. In order for one to gain, someone or everyone else must lose. If you as an American feel aggrieved, you have the God-given right to avenge yourself by whatever means you choose.

Grade 3's are soft these days.

Maybe with MORE guns in the schools? :35_thinking:

They want the old wild west back in America, everyone packing and killing each other while the rich hole up in their gated communities laughing all the way to the bank.

Except they had gun control in old west.

19 children and 2 teachers and still they will do nothing all the while getting up in front of the camera's and spouting that old tired line.......thoughts and prayers.

Yes, but that is ignored because it does not fit with the American myth.

The ex cop in the Buffalo was armed and hit the killer twice, unfortunately for him the killer had body armour on and he became a target. Republicans will never do anything about gun violence but the Democrats hold the Presidency the House and Senate and they have done nothing

You couldn't make this s**t up!

To be fair the dead kids will be forgotten by then and something else will take over the news cycle, stupid Americans

Either the US is not a democracy or the majority of its voters are unbelievably self-centred and stupid.

The American culture boils down to this My wants, desires and beliefs are more important than anyone elses or anything else.  Including the lives of other peoples children.

Any society that requires armed guards to defend their children is sick and broken.

Rep. Paul Gosar Spreads Lie About Texas Shooter In Hateful Since-Deleted Tweet

Extremist Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Arizona) deleted a disturbing and offensive tweet Tuesday that falsely claimed the gunman who killed more than 20 people at a Texas school was a “transsexual leftist illegal alien.”

The lawmaker wrote the message in response to a Twitter user who wondered if the shooter was a member of the far-right, “the kind of trash that” Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Gosar “travel to speak to?” before deleting their tweet.

Also... their leaders treat their own citizens like disposable waste.

Example... leaded water flint michigan. Not one person held to account. Even though it was done with full knowledge.

Example.... police at a bridge during Katrina, forcing people (black) trying to escape flooding, back to the flooded area. (Turns out... cops murdered people.)

no healthcare...insulin ten times canadian price.

Blatant criminals like trump walk free.  Low downs go to jail for stealing a pack of smokes. For profit jail. Supreme court corruption.

religious "leaders" have two jet airplanes, while sucking cash out of their congregation.

never ending foreign war, creating hundreds of thousands of trained killers.

Of course people go nuts with the system they have.

Muricans are more afraid of brown people than picking up their dead kids from school.
