US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

Yup, watching Trump has had me thinking about the Nazi "Big Lie" theory.

Come on, there were very bad people on both sides.

Normally when we see a speech like this the leader takes out a gun and fires shots in the air to close it out.

....give it time...

Reading the Internet, one gets the feeling that some form of putsch..... would suit a bunch of Trump supporters, just fine.    Some day historians and psychiatrists, will look back on this, and struggle to explain the mindset of these people, let alone their leader.

I think there is a growing fear that gun shots will happen.  Not from the man himself.  But the way he carries on about his "enemies" and the media, someone will take a shot at someone.  The environment he fosters has created that already with Virginia.

The Trumpster pardons Sheriff Joe.

Arpaio pardoned Fri night by Trump  during a hurricane which has the country's attention. Gorka fired as well.

Nice opinion piece of Trump as a racist.

Selling white supremacy

It was much more, though, than a feel-good, I-have-seen-the-light interview. Black explained the white supremacist movement's recruiting strategy, which, he said, necessarily involved some self-concealment.

"We told people all the white nationalist talking points, without necessarily saying that we're white nationalists," he said.

"My whole talk was the fact that you could run as Republicans and say things like we need to shut down immigration, we need to fight affirmative action, we need to end globalism, and you could win these positions, maybe as long as you didn't get outed as a white nationalist."

Sound familiar?

What they heard, he said, was "Donald Trump thinks we're fine." All the people who just needed a little extra nudge, to be told their son would be denied university because of affirmative action, or that an immigrant would take their jobs, had just been nudged.

Black called it the most important moment in the history of the modern white nationalist movement. David Duke and other white supremacists rejoiced. They've crawled out from under their rocks and are basking in their president's complicity.

Doesn't this essentially countermand an order from trump?

Doing an end run around Trump's pardon powers. Mueller is smart.

I'll say this for Trump.....

He said he would go after trade deals, and he's doing it.

transpacific,  nafta, and now he's talking about the Obama made US Korean trade deal, which has been horrible for the USA. It was followed by an immediate large boost in korean exports to usa, and nothing the other way.

tough for the anti "free" trade folks to deal with, so far not saying much.

Was just watching Nixon In His Own Words on HBOC. Feel like history repeating itself with the comments about the media.

Just read someone else saying the same thing.

Difference is that the trump followers have bought it hook line and sinker.

They are much crazier than the people in those days.

media and trump is symbiotic. They made him, and they still feed off him as he does off them.

No social media back then. In 1973, the message was clear. Today, it's muddied. I just hope that in the end sanity prevails & Trump gets his.

Knucklehead.  He really does come across as someone who thinks he is smart and clever than he actually is.

Well I mean, he HAS to lie at this point.  But I am curious as to whether he, his dad, their advisers and lawyers think anyone is buying it or if they really understand that they are throwing whatever they can at the wall and hopes something sticks to keep them out of jail.
