The OL Excuse

I see some posters are still clinging onto this one...  that ship has sailed...

Yup, our OL is not that good but... but here's some of the starting centres so far this year...

Calgary - Roman Grozman, a 4th round 2016 pick that we valued less than Shayne Gauthier...

Sask - Andrew Jones, an aging vet who really really can't snap

BC - Cody Husband, a journeyman OL who really should be a 6th OL

Edm - Sorenson, we rejoiced when he left...

Ham - Mathieu Girard... who?

You're telling me that every other QB has more time than Willy?

And every other OC is better than Lapo?

DelMonaco can piece together Grozman (4th round), Bergman (5th), Thorn (7th) and Wilson (undrafted) but Wylie can't even get production out of Stanley Bryant...

Not buying it anymore.

There is nothing wrong with Harris, but a big problem with how and how much we use him. He best let loose to the outside not forced up the middle where every single defensive player knows you run the ball. Maybe only Messam might work for that kind of game plan.

Harris is a pretty good cutback runner.....all the more reason not to just slam him up into the A gaps, with a OL that can't drive block......

Why not, it worked with Fred Reid... oh wait, it didn't.

exactly... Harris has been fantastic this year when used properly... even when not used properly, he has found ways to get some yards...

he left as a fa after narrowly missing out on leading the league in rushing last year. The problem isnt with harris. How durp does one have to be to see a rb getting hit in the back field every other play to say hey that rb isnt good enough?

Actually, Harris can get some yards after contact.  The bad news, is where most of the contact takes place.....

Wally is cheap and probably figured he could get an american rb in for cheaper so why not change the ratio. Harris is a good player and you can see it when he gets the ball. He fights for yards and can get more after contact, but no back really excels when he's constantly having to make people miss in the backfield.

Wally may be cheap, but he did make Harris a very good offer. We basically matched it and Harris came home.

Harris is giving it everything he's got. He's breaking tackles and making people miss. The problem is, he's having to do that in the backfield too often.

Wally wanted to change Harris into more of a blocking/utility back.  Harris still thinks he can be an all-star so he left.

And now he's a glorified blocking back in Winnipeg... go figure.

What percentage of our running plays are straight up the middle?

You may wish to stock up on tissues. And keep sharp objects well out of reach.

Were we actually (gulp) better off with Bellefeuille than Lapo?

say what? harris is an excellent blocking back and probably has the best tool kit of any back in the league  that, his mixed ability to run and pass catching out of the back field. Gotta stop making stuff up and claiming it as fact.
