With a tough to bring down qb, you hold him up wait for help, and attack the ball. That type of ball carrier is much much more likely to fumble.
3 man rushes can be drastically different. Depending on if they play 1 gap or 2 gap. Basically trying to push through the gap to pressure the qb or trying to push the OL back to close the gap on either side of him.  Against a mobile QB a 1 gap will force him to roll side ways and cut off half the field allowing the DBs to cheat. Giving up middle running gaps can make for easy first downs.
QB pressures are also a big deal. Our DL dont sell out for sacks so much. Especially poop and jackson. Both guys get their hands up and play to shut down the pass lane. Which is what you need to do against a big strong qb. Hes like a less fleet of foot kerry joseph. Hold em up, gang tackle him, attack the ball, occupy the passing lanes, push the center back into him to take away the pocket and make him play to half a field.  No question we have the horses in the front 7 to do it. If we do a good job of tackling against the moes we will be in great shape.  If its selling out for hits, and settling for arm tackles itll be a long day.

Bye, bye - Hamilton, BC, and Montreal
Expect the Heisman Trophy winner @JManziel2 to sign in Hamilton this off-season - @rickzamperin #CFL #Ticats
John Hodge - 3downnation - The Bombers have now started three Canadian offensive linemen in two consecutive games with Patrick Neufeld filling in for an injured Travis Bond at left guard. This is likely a sign of things to come for a Winnipeg club that should look to start three national hogs next season. Neufeld, who has been excellent in place of Bond, is a pending free agent — should he leave Winnipeg this off-season, expect 2015 second round pick Michael Couture to take over his spot in the starting line-up.
?‍?Interesting - Edmonton has beaten every team in the league...except Winnipeg
?‍?Santos-Knox is fitting in quite nicely..quite a find.
CFL - Friday wire-to-wire defeat was also the first time in 52 contests the Stampeders have not led.
?‍?How do spell trouble? Z_y_l_s_t_r_a       Double trouble - injury to Matt Nichols
Vanstone - Due to an accumulation of snow on the east-side roof, 800 spectators were relocated in Mosaic stadium.

Darren Cameron - Update from ticketing - “tickets are moving like crazy”... not surprising and awesome to hear! See you Sunday for the Western Semi-Final!  ?‍?Really?
Ed Tait tells us: The Bombers own a .683 winning percentage in 60 home playoff games (40-18-2). Edmonton is 19-29 (.396) in road playoff games.
Nevis was credited with just one tackle, but he drew three holding penalties with his push and was part of a defensive effort that limited the Stamps to 158 yards net offence and held battering-ram running back Jerome Messam to just 30 yards on 12 carries and zero yards on three receptions.
“Drake’s an animal,” said Okpalaugo. “He’s so strong. You should see him tossing people in practice, man.”
?‍?I’d like once again, to voice my support for Andrew Harris as the team’s most outstanding player. Rushing leader and new record for receptions? Most receptions in the entire league? Wow! But I didn’t have a vote.

They also believe it’s unlikely June Jones will return if Austin remains in his current role.
(Speedy (Banks) has been telling everybody that he won’t re-sign if Kent is still around in any capacity,” one player said. “I think some other guys are in the same boat.”)

Well friends, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers sauntered into Calgary tonight for the final game of the regular season, secure in the knowledge that it would not be their last game of the year, but still hungry for a win and the home playoff date that would come with it, which would incidentally be the first ever hosted at Investor's Group Field. And with the snowy season upon us, the weather was most inclement tonight in Stampede City, but as Earl Lunsford used to say "Let's grab a grass and growl", or snow, or field turf, or whatever. And growl they did, at least the defence, who were dominant and showing they had something to prove all night long. And when it was all said and done, the Bombers had walked out of McMahon Stadium with an impressive 23-5 win and a guaranteed spot at home four the semi final next week.
And what a defensive performance we were witness to tonight, and so it is from there that the Happy Honker award will come. But I would be remiss if we didn't get out a couple of smaller honks along the way. And since it is the last regular season game, well, why not? A big salute to 2017 rushing champion and CFL record holder for receptions in a single season, and Winnipeg native to boot Andrew Harris, who got up off the canvas after last week to pound out some big yards on the ground. And Justin Medlock, the leading scorer in the league again this year, who had a poor year by his lofty standards but still hit 56 field goals for an 80% success rate, and who in the second quarter launched a 52 yard field goal off the left upright that would ave travelled 57 yards, or maybe 67 in better summer weather when the ball wasn't a frozen rock. So give him a honk.
And truth be told, the whole defence deserves a honk for their outstanding performance tonight, but there can be only one, which I think is a line from a movie somewhere. And for a while it looked like it would be Brandon Alexander, who picked off an Andrew Buckley pass for his first career interception, and returned it for a touchdown for good measure, to give the Bombers the only lead they would need as it turned out - in fact, Calgary failed to lead at any point in the football game, the first time that has happened in 52 games for that squad. But then another big play occurred, and the play and the player deserve special recognition, Happy Honker recognition, as it turns out.
It was late in the second quarter, with the Bombers up 16-0 and in control, but only one big Stampeder play away from them getting back into it, when the defence rose up again, and this time it was Ian Wild, who came off the edge on a blitz to hit Andrew Buckley from behind on a 3rd down gamble, forcing a fumble in the process, and big Tristan Okpalaugo scooped up the loose ball and rumbled all the way back for a touchdown, unlike two weeks ago when he was denied the same result on a goal line tackle in Toronto, and the Bombers put the figurative final nail in the coffin on that play and coasted to victory in the second half.  So for that game-clinching play, and certainly for scoring that touchdown he was so bitterly denied two weeks ago, the Happy Honker Award goes to Mr. Okpalaugo! Let's hear it for him, and let's hear it for our local heroes, who will be bringing back playoff football to River City next week!

Tough conditions:  cold, frozen field, blowing cold.......
Buckley telegraphs a Persian like toss on out route......
....Alexander the Great steps in front....makes the pick.....for 55 yd TD.
LeFevour not looking comfortable in the pocket.......
Stamps going for 3rd and 1.....but Buckley runs it sideways again....
.....loses yardage and turns it over....
Dressler hung out to dry by the Fever....and gets pounded.....
Bomber run D looking pretty good, and popping Messam.....
Terrible snap by Goossen, loses the Blue 30 yards.....
Both backups on O....not looking real good.....
Buckley scrambles and hits wide open R for long TD....
....but it is called back for holding.....
Blue D-Line really bringing the pressure... with base rush package....
Dan does not look like the man:  late throws with nothing on them.
Harris catches his 103rd pass.....new CFL record for running backs......
Medlock lines up for tough 52 yd FG attempt......under these conditions.
.....and bounces it in off the goalpost.    Bombers up 10-0.
Bomber D still getting pressure and the stops......
Couple big runs by Harris gets him over the 1000 mark.......well done!
Medlock short FG makes it 13-zip.....
Messam has ball punched out......Fogg recovers.....sets up Medlock again.
If we had any kind of O.....this one would be over early.....
Dressler takes another short pass and big hit.....
....Lapo sticking with non-existent pass game....for some reason or other.
Stamps keep a drive alive with a nice fake punt......
But Buckley is blindsided by Wild.....Opogo reaches down, picks it up.....
....and rumbles 65 yds, down the sideline for another defensive TD
23-0.  Half time.  Buckley's Mixture looks bad:   and is no good.
Wild gasses tackle on short pass for big Stamp gain......
...however Poop travels downhill and gets the sack on Stamp 3rd down play.
Bomber DL completely winning the battle of the trenches, in this one.
This Santos Knox kid is a playa.......
Buckley now limping  badly.....like the Stamps O, in general.....
Nevis looking like a wall in China, tonight....
Harris fumbles and Stamps drive down deep......until...
.....Opogo and Jeffcoat meet Buckley deep in the backfield.....
Not sure either of those guys have been blocked all nite.......
Stamps wisely decide to attempt the FG this time....breaks goose egg.
Waiting for Bomber O to actually do something......other than 2 and outs...
Opogo gets another sack .  No off switch on his motor.....
Bomber O still in prevent mode.  DLF is an insult to noodle arms, everywhere.
Hell, you can time those off target passes, with a sundial.......
Stamps finally had enough of Buckley the Black Knight.....and bring in Stanzi at QB.
....who promply throws a pass right to Santos Knox for Stamp turnover no. 6.
Just one good drive on O will wrap this thing up........just one.
Of course, right on que.....  LaFevour rolls out and fumbles the ball away.......
Fortunately the Wizard of Opo, gets ANOTHER sack.....his 3rd......
Very next play.....Jeffcoat tries to catch up with his own sack.....
Stamp O-line is literaly getting eaten alive.
Bomber O goes two and out yet again on a couple of PASS attempts....
......what is with Lapo and the play calling,  in this one?
Stanzi having about the same success as Buckley at the pivot.....
....as he throws a  special delvery right into Fogg's hands......
Some tough running by Flanders to kill the clock.....
Jeffcoat provides an appropriate finish with yet another sack...
    23-5.   7 turnovers and 7 sacks......by the D.
Just as well......Bomber O was pretty bad tonight.....
I will take the 2nd place finish, home playoff game......
.....and all the gin, I can get.....

Really both guys would be a lot better off with a heavy mix of veer/spread option type stuff. Limit decisions to few and easy ones, move them away from the rush, get the ball into the hands of some one to make a play as quick and easy as possible or make it them self.

coach17 reacted to wbbfan in Talks with Mulumba
Mulumba is a tweener and has been since college. Westerman was a thorough breed  pass rusher in college and in the nfl was a pass rushing LBer/de. Mulumba doesnt have near the polished pass rush techniques or skill set. Same amount of college years/games 4.5 sacks to 26. 4.5 tackles for a loss, to 45. In westermans stint in the NFL he recorded more sacks then mulumba has combined between the nfl and college. Westerman was incredible in his combination of athleticism and pass rush skill. Athletically and physically mulumba is similar to westerman. But at the same token athletically and size wise corney dwarfs both a great deal. But hes another guy who didnt come turn key with pass rushing skills.
Westerman has an absurdly explosive ability to get off the ball. A lot of his career sacks are made with his first step. Its also why his production dipped after the first year. Teams cant play him straight up and aggressive.
Thorpe could play the speedster role, thats the skill set and rep he came to the team with. He was brought into camp as much as a return man as any thing. Lankford doesnt do any thing thorpe cant.  Flanders is very much a stand alone in our offense. An X factor. Plop has been trying to hammer a ton of different players into that flanker role. Smith, dressler, denmark, adams probably every import pass rusher got a turn at that smith package. But none made it work like flanders. He is as unique in that position, and un challenge as harris is as our tail back.
The loss of the threat of flanders, the confusion and miss match he was to defenses is a much larger loss then his stats would indicate.

Watching the Packers this afternoon  - they are always catching the other team with to many men, the wrong blitz pkge etc. Nichols ran the same successfully until the Labor Day Classic when the Riders used that bogus fake injury tactic. Seems like we have gotten completely away from it in the last four games, wondering why? The fake injury tactic should be easy to get around and wouldn't the refs start calling delay of game with an overuse?

?‍?The worst way to find out the result of a PVR’d game when you’re out curling, is 5 minutes before leaving the upstairs lounge, the person next to you, sees the scores, and announces who won. Then, to make matters worse, we find out they’re Rider fans. Double depressing.
?‍?The Bombers should have been prepared for that play to Banks. That’s all they have.
?‍?Wow, a Bomber loss and I see all the critics and slammers are out..in full force.
?‍?Is it so hard to accept that we got outplayed by a desperate team? Kind of..
?‍?Yes, they did out-Coach us too.
?‍?I would classify this as a very ‘untidy’ game.
?‍?Now you know how Montreal beat Calgary.
?‍?Despite all the daggers pulled out, ready to slash the lineup, only injuries are going to change the lineup. Fans have got to be ready to accept that.
    ?‍?Possession...we never had it.
    ?‍?Discombobulated . DiscomBomberlated
?‍?Despite the gloomy outcome, it’s lucky were in a position to shrug off this loss, learn from it, and move on.
?‍?Too many sacks allowed though, one led to Nichol’s injury.
    ?‍?Harris 819 rushing. Passing - 783 yards
4 games remaining. Needs 181 yards rushing or just under 46 yards/ game
Needs 217 in receiving or near 58/game.
    ?‍?Game changer - Hamilton’s quick kick on3rd and 2, and resulting TD.
?‍?That was the best game I’ve seen Masoli, and Hamilton play all year. In the 4thQ, he Ticats offence took control, putting together a possession that ate up 8:45 off the clock in a 14-play drive was finished off with a three-yard touchdown pass from Masoli to WR Luke Tasker.
?‍?That drive made Nichols’ injury somewhat irrelevant.
?‍?I don’t think there was a facet of the game where we excelled.
?‍?Huge “give your heads a shake” to all the fans chirping on Davis. He just needs a little playing time. He stood in there, made the reads, executed the plays. What? He didn’t go 14-14 in his throws and lead a spectacular comeback? Go figure. He’ll be alright. He did throw 9/14 anyways, in limited time, and had 2 noticable drops that didn’t help.
?‍?Experience. You can’t buy what Davis has just picked up in a half of football.
    ?‍?Santos-Knox is a football player.
    ?‍?Hamilton out-gamed-planned us..
?‍?NOTE -  Paul LaPolice called 8 running plays. – Andrew Harris only had 9 touches, 5 of which were carries. ❓❓
    ?‍?Okpalaugo was noticable..in a good way
?‍?Love, love, love that direct snap to Adams and pass and the resulting 44 yard gain.
?‍?Randle - Hero to patsy, over 100 yards against, plus a TD. Same for Walker.
    ?‍?Other poor performances...the O-line, (Bryant)and LaPo’s play calling
?‍?World’s biggest NON-SECRET - we desperately need a MLB. I’ll settle with keeping Hall if we could have a dominant MLB.
Chris Randle: "They came out and punched us in the mouth." #Bombers
?‍?How bad was that Bomber game in comparison to other games? Well, if Ed Tait is at the top..for sportswriters, then the Bombers were on the Paul Friesen level.
?‍?Darrin Bauming - Trent Corney was spotted in a walking boot after the game. Timothy Flanders also suffered an injury and did not return. #Bombers
?‍?Bombers’ tackling an issue, or was it Masoil?
RT .@mitchrosset  #Bombers head coach Mike O'Shea says he isn't concerned about Nichols injury. #CFL
Ed Tait - 82: The number of offensive plays run by the Ticats, totalling 475 yards. Winnipeg, by comparison, ran just 63 offensive plays.
?‍?Still, wouldn’t it be nice to officially eliminate the Lions from contention over the next few weeks?
?‍?New focus. Secure that home playoff game.
    ?‍?Horrible weekend..Bomber loss..Rider win..trolls coming out.
?‍?Might have to hide out for a while.

Actually I don't think they have a better defense at all Their line-backing corp to a man isn't better. They have actually given up 1 more point against which isn't an indication of being better, but statistically that makes them not as good. D-Line with Poop in is a wash if you ask me.
We take the ball away more...more interceptions and forced fumbles. 3 less sacks, than Scmoes .
Our O-line is better..we lead the league in least pressures allowed, and again stats wise isn't our Qb the top rated in the league??? Best kicker as well resides with  Winnipeg and arguably the best cover team.
Best all around RB as well as lead the league in rushing per game. The Schmoes have us in receivers i would concede that, but after that I think we are better all around.
We are 9-3...They 7-5...we play our game, don't turn it over, ball control offence like we are totally capable of I see no reason for not getting a win..and by more than a TD
