That's the key thing and mentioned here continuously for last few yrs...On dline and oline if you have a slug in the middle...it radiates out as a ripple effect and degrades the whole unit...and we at times last few yrs would trot out 2 slugs at same time in middle of the dline...and well....good luck having the ends do much of anything. We have seen and suffered thru that and saw the difference in just 1 game
The fact it took so long to go away from the slugs is just sad....And thankfully it looks like lesson learned....as we would have bumped Korn onto roster last yr, and well....been back to the same uselessness. Fletcher got promoted...color me shocked but was the right move I was worried tho

We used a ton of different sub-packages and alignments in the first half of the game on D. JY talked about it in the presser, and how that's what he wants to do. The D did get substantially better, though with simplification in the 2nd half.
I love well-designed sub packs, but in the CFL, you need to have strong base usage. You can't be too crazy/complex too often. We have the ability to send 4 guys and get consistent disruption now. That needs to be our base. And the tricky stuff, needs to be used in moderation more.

Good comments! I especially agree about Nield. We were missing that steady big target in the middle of the field last season. Despite the drop I think he was everything and more what we would expect of him in Blue and Gold. Good guy to have when you need a first down in a throwing situation.

Took a few hours for the hangover to go away from yesterday, but after re-watching the game, I feel there's lots to feel good about, especially considering the standard quirks that typically come with a week 1 game.
Some random thoughts in no particular order...
Half time adjustments. It was clear as day that adjustments were made on both sides of the ball. Half time adjustments, specifically, lack thereof has killed us in years past. Pass protection was significantly better in the 2nd half. Run defence was significantly better too.
Tommy Condell vs Jason Hogan. For those that haven't heard, I'd encourage you to listen to Zach on the post-game show. He was beaming when asked about the offence after the game. Also, Strevvy was live-tweeting during the game yesterday and made a comment about how our receivers were wide open in the intermediate game. That was sorely missing last year, as was just a solid flowing offensive game plan.
The wind - as mentioned by Noeller (also Zach on the post game), this was not a consistent wind throughout the game. I know people on this forum think Osh is an idiot (you're telling on yourself for thinking this, just for the record) but the wind was unpredictable and the team still found a way. The times Osh has in the past decided to kick twice in favour for a fourth quarter wind has usually worked well in our favour. While we didn't have the wind in the fourth, we still found a way. No one bats 1.000
Tommy Nield - Despite the one drop, looked very solid. Nice to have another capable National receiver. I look forward to seeing what he does as he gets more reps in the offence.
Looking ahead - Very much Looking forward to Thursday against Hamilton. I would imagine Tim White has a chip on his shoulder. If we can keep Kenny to a respectable number receiving, I like our chances. Hopefully the forecast changes as it looks like crap for the end of the week, Thursday included.

Great game from a spectators point of view...I loved the back and forth and liked it even more when the final score said we got the 2 pts...I knew we had to go with Brady A LOT and was proved right...The passing game was lacking....couple of nice completions but we have to be better in that department...I was wondering half way through the game where the hell our pressure on VAJ was going to appear AND then it did...Kudos to Jefferson and Ceresna who put some fright into the stumps qb and lit him up a few times...We need to do a lot more of that....DBS looked lost at times....weak part of our game and needs some work...Always nice to win the opener and set the pace for the year....Bring on the T-Cats

When you say Jake my symptoms of PTSD return because I still think you refer to the other Jake.

Honestly pokey, white and demski isn't the worst group you can have.... they just gotta stay healthy. Probably see different guys stepping up in different games depending on what the other team's doing.
It's just the depth is pretty nonexistent

What excited me in pre season was that we were pressuring the QB. For the last two years it seemed like we had absolutely no push and no pressure on whoever we played. It will be nice to make a QB force a few throws every game.

Maybe they can trick the refs and dress up Addison for Cocoran? The old switcheroo?
It was unfortunate that in pre season that the unknown receivers had maybe two balls thrown to them total... hard to gauge how good they could be in real game situations.

I hope our remade O Line opens some holes for Brady...Big dif maker right there...Get behind Broxton and blow these cowboys up.....

Calgary’s rec group isn’t the best I’ve ever seen. Nice to see a couple starting dl missing from their depth chart too. I think Collaros should have time to throw.

As I investigate this more, it looks like the culprit might be a bunch of bots hammering the site until it gets overwhelmed and needs a reboot.
I'm experimenting with different ways to block them. Let me know :

Some of the things I'm trying is putting a challenge in front of weird URL's the bots seem to be hammering on but that a person wouldn't normally visit . If you start seeing a challenge screen to prove you are human on something you do often, let me know what that is, and I can see if some of the rules can be relaxed.
This may be playing whack-a-mole for a little while.
