It’s official. Kenny Omega signs with AEW and is an executive Vice President
    Fantastic!
and Chris Jericho cuts him off. Looks to be Omega/Jericho 2 at Double or Nothing

I've avoided this thread for weeks and after popping in... Yep. It's as off the rails as I imagined. Good job! As soon as I saw Jordan Peterson used as an argument I knew this thing was completely ******.

$120,000 is as high as I go on Loffler and even that doesn't sound quite right. Count me as another that likes him but is willing to see him go.

Well they may sign one guy who wrestles once in a while at a local dumpy bar with a dubious promoter

It's even less like Sting in TNA. Sting went there after working old timers tours for two years. Jericho's coming in on the heels of some red hot programs in Japan. You say he didn't move the needle but I think most people would agree that he was the primary draw for last years Wrestle Kingdom which had one of the highest attendance figures in recent years as well as a huge increase in online subscriptions from North America. Not to mention his merch sales are through the roof. He's the one guy his age who has managed to keep himself relevant.
Besides, the rest of the roster is already shaping up to be pretty damn good. They already have a good mix of styles and I'm sure there's a couple more big names to come. You keep on referring to indie fans and indie wrestlers but NJPW and even ROH & Impact are pretty far from the indies and that's where most of these guys will be coming in from. It's not like they're signing guys that would be wrestling in the Boogies parking lot otherwise. In recent years I've watched both Wrestlemanias and Wrestle Kingdoms with people who aren't/weren't wrestling fans. Guess which of the two turned people into fans? If AEW offers a proper alternative to the WWE and it's easy to access for viewers I really think they have a legit shot at being successful.

Jericho is 50. Remember Angle in TNA? Barely moved the needle. If It was 15 years ago maybe...
Hope AEW works out.. But i already see huge issues for them and the main one being im not sure if the niche market is big enough even with TV deal.
The biggest problem tho is the fickle fans they are catering 2 who hate wwe but will pop for ex wwe guys.
Lets be honest..50 yr old pT jericho isnt a draw and neither is Neville and despite what some think... Omega is not well known in the states at all.
What makes him better than AJ Styles? Im just saying.. Catering to the roh fanbase isnt gonna get the job done.
Right now.. Its a bunch of talk but how are u gonna convince casual fans to tune in when they see stardust neville 50 yr old Jericho and a bunch of lets be honest... Midgets.

I dont see the diff between AEW or roh or impact or mlw for that matter.
That is THE competition for them.. Its not WWE.. Its the indy feds i mentioned.. Mlw impact even roh and to a lesser extent NJPW which are all established brands who dont draw **** in reality in the states
60000 watching eh? Cool.. Thats grear but to compete with the E you gonna need 2 million more tuning in..

Where are those 2 million cuz they aint watching roh mlw impact or Japan

Honestly the roster is quite underwhelming at the moment...
Its truly ROH but with some hype.
    ROH isnt a huge draw.
Not sure the money or fans are there for this to be more than just a glorified indy fed owned by billionaires.
All in was special cuz it was funded by the boys... They are no longer All in.. Its not double or nothing.. Its playing with someone elses money.

Huge diverse crowd tho of maybe 3500 ppl.... There were a few fat white guys a few skinny white guys and like 6 women..

I'm sure there's a price that Kenny can't refuse from WWE but without being able to see the money both WWE & AEW have on the table it's pretty tough to judge what his best option is right now.

Why should anyone care about any wrestling? It's all in the way it's marketed. If they can get some buzz about being the hot new thing and then actually be on a channel that people can find they should get some eyeballs. If it's a good product they'll get the ever so important word of mouth advertising that REALLY gets viewers. You seem to have your mind made up already without a single event taking place.

One of the great things about ECW in its prime is it offered a wide variety of styles. You would see a crazy hardcore match, a great high flying match, a brawl, some comedy and fantastic mat wrestling on each card.

There's been a bunch of guys like Lance Storm on twitter commenting on how someone's going to die at some point and these sorts of stunts really need to be scaled back. The doofus who cracked his skull has been responding to each one with either a sarcastic "Thanks for your concern" or just flat out telling them they don't know what they're talking about. Was unfamiliar with the fellow until this incident so I have no clue if this is part of his brain damage or if he was always this way. Considering he was willing to try a stunt like that at an indie show where he's maybe getting paid a couple hundred bucks, I'm going to assume he was kind of an idiot to begin with.

Its sort of an idea they are doing now with the offices in different regions.  NXT UK.  They just did a try out in Mexico and India I believe and want to open an office in Saudi Arabia.  Ofcourse, their purpose is to control all wrestling in the world so the point wont be that NXT Middle East is a different style than NXT UK (there would likely be *some* differences because youre catering to different fans but generally the point is to teach the WWE way of working and the WWE way of writing and production to every one).
This was actually a Shane McMahon idea years ago before he quit.  Incidentally, he also wanted to do more internet based stuff and have an internet-based promotion/show.  Sort of like NXT or 205live is now.  Probably a coincidence how all Shane's "bad ideas" are now Hunter's "good ideas" lol

The WWE needs to do something drastic. As has been discussed to death, the lack of competition really hurts them. There's little to push them. I was talking to some friends on the weekend and we kicked around an idea that they would never go for but we all think would make for a more entertaining wrestling scene. At least on the major stage, the indies are **** hot right now. Anyway, we talked about what if the WWE was more like the NWA and was the governing body over a series of regional promotions. They would be the ultimate owner but could franchise out the different territories. There would be certain standards to uphold but each promotion would have control over how it presents its product on tv (live, taped, ECW style highlight show, etc), the look of the arena, the camera angles. Basically everything. They could even revive some of the historic brands they own. WCW would be the south, AWA the midwest, and so forth. A certain percentage of the roster would be people they franchisees bring in themselves but a majority would be WWE contracted wrestlers who are divided up amongst the regions. Then you would have your top stars who bounce between regions, not unlike the NWA champions would do.
Again, never ever ever going happen but fun to discuss dream scenarios.

The promoter posted a detailed explanation of his side of the story.  Very similar to what I heard.
We booked Brutus way back in 2002 and he was fine.  That was only 5 days and he was much younger and had Honky Tonk Man with him.  I remember Brutus was introduced to a friend of a friend right away who was an avid gym user.  He took Brutus to work out every day and our mutual friend asked me why I didnt have more things planned for the guys when they were in town (to keep them busy and so they werent bored).  I said, look we're pretty busy with the shows and these guys are adults...if they want to explore Winnipeg, they are free to do so...and free to ask us for anything they want.
As it is we did take them out for several dinners and to a few after parties.  But I guess Beefcake had complained to the mutual friend.
The one annoying thing was, we had a local radio station contact us and ask for a morning show interview.  The station wanted them at about 5 am and this message came through the previous night during an after party.  The talent agreed to do it if we were able to procure them some "assistance" with waking up alert.  Weirdest work meeting of my life as we discussed this for about 10 minutes and since I also worked in a bar, I was assigned the task of "you know people, right, can you get some stuff?"  Ummmm yes...however, I decline.
On the way back from Brandon late one night, its me driving the big names and they want to grab a 24.  So we're tailed out of Brandon by the police as these guys are drinking beers in the Jeep.  Finally, we're clear and Brutus decides he needs to relief himself.   I learned that night of the way you do so on the road...into bottles and toss them out the window.  No stopping!
Anyway, too bad it didnt work out.  34 days is a long time for a 60-something wrestler but it sounds like he made a lot of money.

Been following along with this on the Twitter. I'm not surprised that people occasionally bail on those tours. 30+ shows with few (if any) nights off is a hell of a grind and I'm guessing some of these legends they bring in don't quite remember how uncomfortable it is to drive 8 hours every single day for a month straight. That being said, they made the commitment. Unless something incredibly serious comes up, fulfill that commitment and if something does come up, leave on a good note with a promise to make it up to them in the near future.
