Or does this signing mean he's for sure gone and we're using his potential cap space... Cause JT *could* cost as much as 7- Million in cap space next year if he hits all his bonuses

Does anyone know what Toews’ cap hit will be? I think bonus money counts up front, but is a playoff bonus different. A $2 million cap hit would be great, but a $7 million cap hit is an overpay.

9 million for Ehlers is insane.

And he may well get that on the open market. Then my big concern is if that is the bar set, how much will Kyle Connor cost us in his next contract. Hope to see an extension on him soon at $9.5 million before the free agency lunacy drives up his price to &12-13 million per.

  2. Amazing season. Division title, President’s Trophy. Thrilling win for the ages over the Blues. Frankly played the Stars even if not outplayed them if you look at the series as a whole. Just too much adversity to overcome, not enough puck luck, and just enough missed opportunities to make the difference. Now we’ll hear the injury report that Morrissey likely playing with a busted shoulder and now torn knee ligaments. Scheifele playing with a concussion. Valardi a back or shoulder injury that never healed. Ehlers coming off a broken leg and not 100%. And I’d wager a bunch more we don’t know about (Schoen, Gus, Stanley, maybe Connor). Loss stings now, but what a tremendous year.

I've been pretty negative every time the Jets have trailed in any game this season, but a little bit of positivity is that the Jets seem to be settled in... They were the better team in the overtime with the long change.

    FIFY. 😁

Games like last night are why I love sports. Threads like this are why I hate sports fans

Now I am picking on @captaincanuck12 but I will say to your credit you have been here all year, win or lose, and even if you have thrown in the towel the odd time you speak as a fan who wears their heart on their sleeve and will always come back with hope for the next game. Your negativity is borne of frustration in the moment, but you don’t quit on this team in the big picture. You are good to have around and are ultimately a loyal supporter, no doubt. What drives me nuts are those “fans” who were silent all year when this team marched to the President’s Trophy, and then crawled out of the woodwork after game 4 to remind how lousy this team has always been when the chips are down, how Hellebuyck is a fraud, how Cheveldayoff must be fired, etc. and then constantly disappear and are quiet when the team wins and proves them wrong for the 60th time this year, just waiting for their next chance to say “see I told you they suck” at the next moment of adversity. It’s beyond feeling upset and negative in the moment, it’s like they can’t be happy unless they get to feel validated moaning and bitching about how useless the team is. I will never get those who seem to want to be perpetually angry and prefer to tell everyone “I told you so” if the team doesn’t win it all, which given the pure mathematical stats of it is about as safe a bet as you can make (31 out of 32 teams fail every year). The old adage is true - “sports is not there to make you happy, sports is there for you to be miserable in a large group”. I just don’t get the appeal of watching and acting like you hope they lose so that you have the opportunity to complain about how lousy they perpetually are and validate your negativity to the public at large. Why watch at all? Tough way to go through life.

Now, the Jets may crash and burn in 4 straight next series, and it won’t change what’s great season this has been, how hard they have worked, and what entertainment they have brought us all year. Their achievement should be celebrated, not maligned.

Rant over. See you in Round 2.

P.S. It was never in doubt, says this Jets fan. 😉

  4. View from the upper deck after 1: very sloppy period by the Jets. Lots of passivity in their own end, both goals on missed assignments and turnovers in their own end. Refs don’t seem to have a handle on the game yet, tossing players on the faceoffs, no clear indication of what they will let go and what they will call. All that said, the Jets showed how quickly they can flip the switch and take over the game. I think they will get the jitters out of their system and start to take over from here. Perfetti has come to play.

McIntyre seems to think they will easily move the concert date and have the Jets play Saturday since their last game is Weds.

He doesn't think teams that play on Thursday would play on Saturday.

I disagree as I would think Sportsnet would want Toronto and or Montreal to play on Saturday.

With the Oilers as the late game no doubt. Winnipeg will no doubt be shuttled to the “west coast” time to accommodate either Toronto or Montreal being the early game. Get ready for 8:30 pm start times.

    Lifted from the hockey writers:

'However, the Jets are not a balanced team. They mainly rely on Hellebuyck’s top-level goaltending as their defense'.

    Fair assessment?

I would think our D offers up some level of resistance to assist Helle? Jeebus.

If you ignore the quotes and merely answer the bolded part, the answer is always “no”, regardless of the article or issue at hand. The Hockey Writers are hackS, IMO. Just write “provocative” hot takes for click bait.
