  1. I have not been a fan of Hurl. If he is standing in the right spot and the play comes to him, he can cope. He doesn't seem to be able to recognize the unfolding play in time to flow to the right spot. If Poop Johnson is as good as or better than Okapalaugo, there's money to saved there, and maybe we can trade him for a good MLB.
  2. Was listening to John Hodge interview on 1290 this afternoon on way home. Hodge opined that the Bomber O-line was probably the best in the league, that Poop Johnson way outplayed Okapalaugo (making Okapalaugo expendable?) and that Hurl did poorly at MLB with Knox only marginally better if at all. He also had concerns about the Bombers defence in general.
  3. Doesn't look to be too many surprises this year in camp.
  4. No complaint on Liggins. He showed some promise but no consistency, and we appear to be good at Import receiver positions.
  5. Thank God that at least one of the local media cares enough to expend a bit of effort to cover the Bombers.
  6. ^ looks pretty accurate, but I sure there will be a surprise or two.
  7. I'm not sure that the recap is worth the effort to click on the link.
  8. Bass was very good as a WIL but he didn't seem to be able to grasp the duties of a middle linebacker and was often behind the play.
  9. He was so sub-par he was replaced by a mediocre MLB- Bass.
  10. Spit. That's what I thought, but thanks anyways.
  11. Is the game tonight televised?
  12. And that's why Huffer is the heir-apparent to Wally the Whiz.
  13. I'm gonna argue that one. Kelly had crap for quarterbacks which led to a terrible offence but he treated fans and media with contempt. Burke was just utterly clueless and he knew it.
  14. Possibly so, but in the swagger days, we had a pretty good set of linebackers. The linemen could just pin their ears back and charge knowing that if anyone slipped past them, they wouldn't get far. Hurl doesn't have to be an all-star but he has to be at least average for this to work, and he hasn't been so far.
  15. We are all destined to disappear into history, but what we leave behind is what matters.
  16. The difference between Kelly and Burke was that Kelly sort of knew the game but was arrogant, condescending and abrasive whereas Burke was totally clueless and right from day one had the attitude of someone waiting for the guillotine.
  17. To counter your point- how many quarterbacks are remembered as good to great if they couldn't string together enough wins to make two consecutive seasons or more? How many times have you said, "Good quarterback but loses a lot of games?" Mitchell might not have won as many games in green livery, but he still would have been a good quarterback and put together strong seasons.
  18. The man is dead. You don't have to insult him.
  19. Or maybe ever.
  20. One of the most colourful/polarizing/brilliant figures in the CFL's history. Thank you Don, for all you did to make this an entertaining and occasionally infuriating game.
  21. Dark days indeed. Those were the times I actually turned the TV off in disgust, but somehow managed to keep my gorge down long enough to watch the post-game highlights/lowlights. It was like watching your 8 year old kid being beaten up by a teenager but helpless to intervene beyond impotent rage.
  22. I would suggest that in order for a quarterback to be validated as a good pivot, he would have to string together at least 2 consecutive good seasons.
  23. The "having to prove himself" thingie is true to an extent. The CFL and even the NFL have had a lot of one-hit/one season wonders who amazed and then disappointed, Nichols doesn't necessarily have to win the Grey cup but he does have to play as he did for the last half of the season. The bar has been raised for him and the team.
  24. I think you are missing the point. The question was really about the initial assessment of Apodaca as a potential CFL quarterback.
